Son Honors Dad's Wish, Hires Stripper for Taiwan Funeral

A man hired a stripper to perform at the funeral of his father — who happened to have a fondness for gentlemen's clubs, according to reports from Taiwan.

Taiwanese newspaper the United Daily News reported that Cai Jinlai had been promised a stripper for his funeral if he lived to 100.

Jinlai was 103 when he died — reportedly leaving behind more than 100 "descendants."

He had died after walking about 3.1 miles to a town in Taichung County to vote in an election in the Taichung.

His son, Cai Ruigong, told the newspaper that he had paid more than $170 for the stripper to dance around the coffin at the funeral.

"He would travel around the island with his friends to see these [strip] shows," Ruigong said.

According to reports, the exotic dancer performance at the funeral lasted 10 minutes.

I'm from Taiwan and I remember when I was young I witnessed few public funerals. For example, the deseased's family will hire a person to cry and mourn at funerals or they have a truck going around the city with girls wearing stripper like clothes and dance on the pole. I don't think they actually strip per se but just put on a show. I don't know why they do so but it's a tradition, I guess.

This isn't really that unheard-of here in Taiwan. People here like to send the dead off into the next world with the things they enjoyed most in this one, so whether it's strippers at funerals, or settling light to a stack of their favouriate cigarettes on their grave, or leaving a bowl of their favourite food on the grave, anything goes really!! Oh yes, and you can pay professional mourners to come and cry and wail at the funeral too, so it makes the neighbours think the person was more popular than they actually were!
