Variety is talking about the effects in Hollywood of the struggling economy in this great article.

It seems the only place not affected by the possible recession is Malibu. Rental prices for the upcoming summer season are at an all-time high!!!!!!

      Of course we're in a recession! I live in NYC and work in finance, and it's pretty bad. We're walking on eggshells at my company wondering if we'll be let go. Two desks just got cut yesterday, and that's happening in companies across the industry. Hopefully this won't get too bad, but it's looking grim. A buddy of mine works at Bear (he's not a big shot with a ton of money by any means) and lost all of his savings…sad.

      come to new york city. there are still no cheap rentals, the market is still freaking HIGH and even co-ops and condos are up 5%. it's not effecting the market here, which sucks (as a renter).

      Recessions are bad. We are in a recession. The physical economy is O.K. The financial economy is on life support. When the financial economy implodes, everything will go with it. Most of the financial economy is a crooked sham. Many of the mechanisms in the financial economy don't increase economic productivity. They were designed to extract wealth from those who do "real work" by playing with "paper." Recessions are bad.

      Who cares about how much $$$ these idiots will "have" to spend on star-gazing this summer? Most of us are much more concerned with grocery bills that rise every week, gas prices that make you second guess driving to work, medical costs that keep people AWAY from care, etc etc etc. Feel free to mail me your spare cash, fools, rather than spend it on a beach rental.
