Madonna's new record, Hard Candy, is currently sitting pretty at #3 on the iTunes album charts. And that's just based on pre-orders! The record doesn't even come out until the end of April.
Mariah's E=MC2 is only at #9 on the iTunes album charts, though.
This is gonna get interesting!

You stupid twat. Singles are released individually. Singles break in dance clubs, radio, word-of-mouth, etc. A strong run of singles can keep album sales alive for a longer time. Young people tend to favor the purchase of singles because they fit better with their lifestyle and budget.

Albums are a collection of "songs," which become "singles" only when they are released and promoted individually. Older people with typically higher incomes buy albums. They also tend to grow tired of all the songs in a shorter period, which hurts album sales - unless the album becomes a classic (which madonna has always failed to accomplish.)
