Dreamgirls Have Seoul

Dreamgirls is coming back to the stage…but not in NYC (just yet)!

The upcoming $10 million revival will be launched in Seoul, South Korea — 6,883 miles away from the great white way.

The Seoul production is being put together by Broadway veterans. It will tour several US cities before landing on Broadway in the 2009-2010 season.

Interesting move, right?

There are a few reasons why the producers chose this path. First, those harsh Broadway critics might not make the trip to Seoul for the premiere run! The producers prob want to work out any kinks without the know-it-alls breathing down their necks.

Second, Korean investors are putting up $4 million. That's almost half the cost.

Smart move!

Broadway is going global!

      Dream Girls was an awesome movie with amazing thespians. I absolutely loved the cast. Jennifer Hudson deserved that Oscar!

      Seems to be a precedent for this, sort of. About twenty five years ago there was a South Korean production of Evita, but I think that was after the broadway show here, not before. Either way, I guess they like our musicals.
