Hi-yo Silver…Remake!

Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio are teaming up with Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer again.

The money making grubby bastards hope to work their movie magic on the classic 1930's heroLone Ranger.

We know. We know. Yes, another 'remake' will be hitting the screen. We're going to cut this team a little slack…they were able to pull off a movie based on an amusement park ride!

Refresher course for you youngins' — the Lone Ranger is kinda like a cowboy version of Batman. The Lone Ranger is a masked justice crusader. Batman has the Batmobile — Lone Ranger has his horse, Silver. The LR's sidekick is a Native American guy named Tonto. And the LR's famous catch phrase is, "Hi-yo Silver, away!"

We're getting ready to be 'sick' of hearing the William Tell Overture, the LR's theme song, when Disney starts promo'ing the upcoming movie.

Wonder which pop or rap superstar will be giving the Overture an update for the movie????

    Another horrible Hollywood idea. They'll sink 100 million into it, it will have an awful script and lame actors, it'll tank, then they'll blame internet piracy for slumping sales. What Hollywood needs is less remakes, not more. As if there was any demand for this remake. 60 year olds aren't gonna go see Owen Wilson as the Lone Ranger. Awful, awful idea.

    it'll be interesting who they get to play tonto. Hopefully it'll be a an actual Native American actor. Traditionally, in old westerns, they'd get Asian dudes to play Aboriginal Americans. Brutal.

    A remake, why not, just as long as they change or modify the sidekick's of "TONTO". It translates into "dummy" in Spanish. There's been talk regarding the name and it's use on the show, since it is used by a white man towards a brown skinned man.

    Does anything say "we don't trust our development departments" more than all this constant rehashing of the past? God forbid a studio would have to acquire new material under current guild deals wherein the writers actually get real money. All these remakes are simply a way for the biz to avoid paying creators under the new deals we've all fought so hard to win.

    You siad it they pulled off ONE movie based on a ride Well the name at least the script was stolen from a writter who later sued diznay.
    (note the other two pirate movies SUCKED I guess they had to write thier own script that time)

    The Lone Ranger was already re-made for the big screen back in 1981. ("The Legend of the Lone Ranger" check IMDb) It was a big flop.

    There was a Lone Ranger movie in the early 80s. The special effects were terrible and there was a part of the movie that has unfortunately stuck with me throughout the years. All of the Rangers are ambushed and killed leaving only the "Lone Ranger." Anyways, they're killed by some howitzer type gun, which just blew these huge chunks everywhere. It was so gross, chunks of human flesh flying through the air. Ugh….it would be hard to top that in the sucks department.

    as a relative of jay silverheels "tonto" i dont really know how to react to this news. if they did the show justice and not portray indians like they use to then i say let them try. but if it fails miserably, dont say we didnt warn you. the only actor i can think of that would be a good tonto is Rudy Youngblood (jaguar paw of apocalypto). and to mention its Hi-yo silver away!! not hi-ho

    native american??….Tonto was actually played by a Canadian dude named Jay Silverheels and was one of the first Aboriginals to break into the acting business (even if it was playing a stereotype)…He actually started the Indian Actors Workshop…he is a Canadian Hero to some…he later went on Johnny Carson and made fun of his character and how Hollywood represents first nation peoples…

    How sad that there are no new and original kinds of stories to tell and that Hollywood money types are too lazy to invent them. It's easier I guess for the suits to rehash old tv series than to risk their investment in new untried storylines. Do they think The Lone Ranger and his "sidekick" Tonto, a secondary Indian man is p.c.     Ted & Terry are the biggest hacks in the business next to Akiva ( Hackiva) Goldman. They bully people, and steal credit every chance they get. It makes me sick that they get away with it and continue to vomit out mediocre to shit movies that make a fortune. For years everything they wrote had to be completely rewritten and then they tantrumed like babies to get credit even though barely a word of what they wrote stayed in the script. Yet they know how to work it and don't care who they cheat and the studios don't care either. People who work with them are clueless as to how these guys keep getting hired, yet they do and for millions of dollars. They seriously have a career built on the work of other people that they have taken credit for.
