hi perez, thank you so much for posting this. just because someone cares for animals doesn't mean they don't care about people. it's about doing something positive, even if it's small, in an enviroment of sadness and destruction. as individuals, we may not be able to stop the war or even save people, but we can donate our dollars to help suffering animals in war-torn environments. animals who have no hand in this fight, who are innocent, who cannot speak up for themselves.
shame on all you folks who suggest that caring about animals suggests an indifference to people. what are you doing to stop the war? what are you doing to help stop the violence against civilians? it's all horrible and terrible and sad, but here's an organization doing some small bit of good.

While I love animals and appreciate all that the ASPSA does for them, when I come to an ENTERTAINMENT web site, I don't care to be hit upon for money. I can't even run everyday errands to my pet store, grocery store, or whatnot without some organization hitting me up for money. I do my own research on charities and give when and where I can. Stick to gossip.

One of my good friends is about to go to iraq. he said basic training completely fucked him up psychologically and i agree because it shows…one breath he would express how happy he was and felt obligated to be there for his fellow soldiers, in his platoon, the next sentence he'd say he was suicidal, thinking of fleeing the country, that no one in his platoon knew why the US was
in iraq and wondered how he could get out of it. he was scared. he landed in the military because he had abusive parents, no structure in his young life and needed money for college and wanted a "home"–so he could feel like he was a part of something…he was depressed and vulnerable, and the military preys on men, exactly like my friend. that's why the military recruits in poor, often drug infested, neighborhoods. they want the desperate, confused, poor, naive, neglected, rejected…these people are easier to manipulate. i have several doctors in my family who treat returning veterans…these soldiers are further brutalized by our govt's disregard. no one is "winning" this war, except the rich men who profit from it. our soldiers and young men need support, but not in the form of more tour-duties. they need better options, so they are not coerced into joining the military–they need a valid reason to go to war–they need true care when they return home–they need a media that will stop lying to everyone about why this war was waged.

i don't understand why people get upset about helping animals. if everyone here loves and respects the troops, then you would be open minded to this cause. these animals are giving love and companionship to our troops during war and it is the troops themselves who want to rescue these strays. why are you doubting our troops' judgment? plus perez posts charities centered around humans also. so everyone should stop being so angry.
