I met Jully years ago and some dancers I know are in her video. She is an inspiration for black singers in Canada. There are many talented beautiful black sistas in Canada. But you know the fact that she has made a mark in Canada she had to have worked really hard. I respect her talent and tenacity. Thanks Perez. You know good music. You should run your own label. I think you are already but honestly I think you have a great ear for music.

Yes, we have been fortunate to have it FIRST, but now it's time for the rest of the world to experience it, so chill the heck out!! For example, Amy Winehouse's "Back to black" CD and "Rehab" single were released in the UK SEVERAL Months before it hit the Canada and the U.S.(it hit Canada before the U.S.). Why? because Amy didn't have distribution in the Canada & U.S. anymore because her debut "Frank" album did do well…at all! There was a new deal made…and that's how we finally got it, it's called "Buzz". You know how many UK/international Artists Most of you have NEVER HEARD OF that are HUGE Stars in their territories? Before Kylie Minogue's 2001 "Fever" album, North Americans(except her real fans) had no idea she was hugely success after her 1988 "Locomotion" days. "Pocketful of Sunshine" by Natasha Beddingfield after "Unwritten", was a re-released version of a UK album released MONTHS before. "Robyn"(1997's "Show Me Love" fame) has had 2 #1 singles in the UK/Europe last year that were just released in Canada in January. Leona Lewis' CD came out 2 weeks ago in Canada, been out in the UK for months…but out in the U.S April 15th.
P.S. - to those "Purists" who keep pointing out that "Seven Day Fool" is an Etta James cover…ahhh Duh! Get over it Jully's not the 1st artist to do a "Cover" and will not be the last! Sooooo many Pop and R&B Artists had a cover songs on their CDs in the '90s(and to recent days) - this isn't a new concept! Y'all can chill out too! Jully did an awesome job of covering this song and keeping its integrity. I mean she could have covered "At Last" like everybody else..but that would have been soooo predictable! Sure it's very true to the original, but why she want to change it completely, like so many people make the mistake of doing. Etta James is one of her all time fave singers, so that's why she chose it.

Jully Black spoke at my high school in Toronto three years ago about downloading music illegally. Not only was she abrasive and arrogant the entire time, she verbally attacked a girl who respectfully stated that she supports artists but that she doesn't "want to pay for Britney and K-Fed's wedding." Jully Black's response was that maybe she should save her money to "buy a shirt that doesn't show so much cleavage." The majority of the audience walked out, and several people threw pennies and nickels at her, because she stated that she only makes $.7 an album- which was later proven untrue. Our high school invited a record executive afterwards to make ammends, and to apologize to the students.
Jully Black, no one cares that you were the youngest of nine, and that you had a single mother. You're from Jane and Finch, most likely on welfare your whole life, and the fact your mother was really fertile and slutty doesn't legitimize your career or your efforts to suck your way to the top.
The ability to respect strangers, to hold oneself with a modicum of dignity, to present your music with a good character as opposed to forced aggression, to buttress your argument while still being open to the opposing side- these attributes trump the ability to croon a song made famous by a better woman.
You are truly a seven-day-fool.
