Actors Fighting With Actors

robin__opt.jpg

Things are not looking well.

We may have another strike on our hands!!!

As the actors' agreements with the big media moguls is set to expire this summer, a very unpleasant development occurred this weekend.

Both of the main actors' unions, SAG and AFTRA, decided to sever all ties.

Each union will now negotiate separately with the studios and big media meanies.

The bad blood between both unions has boiled over and the mudslinging has begun!

"For the past year SAG leadership in Hollywood has engaged in a relentless campaign of disinformation and disparagement," AFTRA president Roberta Reardon said in a written statement.

SAG President Alan Rosenberg's written response: "AFTRA's refusal now to bargain together with us and their last-second abandonment of the joint process is calculated, cynical and may serve the interests of their institution, but not its members."

The AFTRA board said the vote to terminate the agreement, known as "Phase One," was "overwhelming."

Why can't we all just get along????

There's strength in numbers!

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios, said in a statement that it looks forward to bargaining with AFTRA. It did not mention SAG.

Television and the local L.A. economy can't afford another strike!!!!

As for the LA economy, well if they have another economic slap as the result of this strike, we will know who started it. I love watching these liberals act like greedy little Republicans!

Re: jane – Jane, Just to let you know…..just because you live in LA doesn't mean you don't live in "reality". Not everyone in Los Angeles is like Paris Hilton, and all the other high profile self absorbed cunts you see in the media. A lot of people that live here are hard working people that are just getting by like everyone else. I disagree with the the writers and actors striking. It hurts EVERYONE in this city. I think the actors and writers should all be canned and give other talent who aren't so greedy a chance. The industry is STALE with arrogant "talent" that are full of greed. If you're an actor and you feel you're underpaid because you work only work a couple times a year, then get a real job like the rest of us. You want full time pay on a part time work schedule. Ya'll can fuck off!

By now it is clear that the U.S. invasion of Iraq was a terrible mistake. Nearly, 4,000 U.S. troops have been killed, and more than 58,000 have been wounded, injured, or fallen seriously ill. A further 7,300 troops have been wounded or injured or fallen seriously ill in Afghanistan. One hundred thousand U.S. soldiers have returned from the war suffering serious mental health disorders, a significant fraction of which will be chronic afflictions. Miserable though Saddam Hussein's regime was, life is actually worse for the Iraqi people now. The country's roads, schools, hospitals, homes and museums have been destroyed and its citizens have less access to electricity and water than before the war. Sectarian violence is rife. Iraq's chaos has made the country a magnet for terrorists of all stripes. The notion that invading Iraq would bring democracy and catalyze change in the Middle East now seems like a fantasy. When the full price of the war has been paid, trillions of dollars will have been added to our national debt. Invading Iraq has also driven up oil prices. In these and other ways, the war has weakened our economy. –The Trillion Dollar War, By Joseph E. Stiglitz (winner of Nobel Prize in Economics) and Linda J. Bilmes (READ IT!)

no respected actor will take part in this strike because they are already the appreciation and money they deserve. And as for the rest of them, its not as if they are undisposable or rare. There are enough wannabe actors with actual talent out there that is not as big a threat as it was with the writers.

    26 and 28, you are ignorant f*cks.

the strike effects a lot more people than you could imagine. it's not just actors, writers, producers, or agents who are affected. the industry uses a lot of services in los angeles and its citizens depend on hollywood for business. think about construction workers, caterers, dry cleaners, costume designers, anyone working a desk job for an entertainment company, and tons and tons of more people.
i could go on and on, but i dont want to waste my time with imbeciles. the point is that thousands of people will be negatively effected by another strike.

and if you're so anti-hollywood, stop watching TV/movies and reading perez. los angeles makes those things happen so don't take it for granted.

Re: just a little educational announcement – Hey, did you know that thousands and thousands died during the revolutionary war, paving the way for freedom..really… IT'S TRUE! And, it's also incredible that thousands and thousands died (mostly whites) freeing thousands and thousands of slaves during the Civil War. And during wwII more people died freeing Europe and saving millions of Jews, gays and other outsiders that Hitler didn't think were worthy of life. Hey, that's true, you can look it up. SO SHUT THE FUCK UP…people die during war, but hopefully if people like you don't screw things up, maybe people in the Middle East will be able to walk in the freedom you so callously take for granted and don't believe anyone else deserves.

No fucking way i'm supporting this shitty cause.

  48. #48 - Haley says – reply to this

It's not the Hollywood actors that make money who are the problem. They couldn't care less about the unions. Remember most of SAG's members doesn't make any money at all. SAG is full of bitter people who wants to get back on the industry because they didn't get the careers they dreamed about. That's the problem.

  49. #49 - franktalk says – reply to this

Who gives a crap about actors…they are just professional liars. And they think their you-know-what doesn't stink. F them all. Reality shows are more fun to watch anyway!

  50. #50 - Justina says – reply to this

AFTRA is a sh*t organization that does nothing, NOTHING for it's actors.

and btw, no most actors don't have enough money. there are more actors in hollywood than the ones whose names you know, and unfortunately it's the talented ones who often struggle the most, since they don't have the hype of being an ex-model or related to a screen legend, etc, or they led a normal childhood & went to college instead of being a child actor.

half the point is that with new media (internet airings, itunes), the moguls are making a ton of $$$ off of SAG, WGA, & DGA work (and even some AFTRA work for the shows that apply), but since the union contracts were written up before "new media" existed, the moguls feel this loophole entitles them to not have to share in their newfound profits. and you call the writers & actors greedy? we're not exactly talking about those that make $10 million a movie, but also those who make $7,000 a year. hollywood is more of a business than most of you imagine. honestly, how many of you sincerely agree with the principle that people should not be compensated for their work? that's called slavery, last I checked.

*on a side note, got to love all the pseudo-subversive, anti-hollywood banter on of all places, the perez hilton blog. hypocrites.

Cancel you TV subscription, especially if it is with criminal companies like Directv. YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF BIG TIME!!

  53. #53 - Slavery? LOL says – reply to this

Re: Justina – What? Salvery? You're comparing actors wages to slavery? You can't be serious!!!!!!!! You make a CHOICE to be an actor and if you're making $7,000 a year, why not cut your losses and find another line of work? I know plenty of actors, successful and not so much. The successful ones make a shitload of money for sitting around in a trailer waiting to be called to the set. The "extras" do the same, but don't work as often. Like I mentioned in a previous post…actors want full time pay on a part-time work schedule. THAT'S BULLSHIT! People are tired of the whining and it's destroying the people that are just as important as the actors (and writers for that fact)….the below the line folks that are all losing their jobs because one group of over paid fucks want more. Such a typical actor attitude….it's all about me.

re: "typical actor attitude", LOL!!!! i'm not an actor. never have been. know plenty though. some cut their losses and change careers, some stick with it. not too shocked though that you failed to come to a remotely accurate conclusion as to my occupation & POV, since your shoddy understanding of the issues of the strike itself are presumptuous & ill-researched. trust me, the actors don't actually want to strike. and no sh*t strikes are crippling to the welfare of many, that's pretty much understood. it's a last resort. i certainly hope they avoid a strike, but that doesn't mean i don't get why there is frustration. they're not exactly indentured to provide entertainment, as though they OWE you, just because you don't want to be inconvenienced out of your prime-time fix. remember that there are more people in hollywood than just Lindsay Lohan and Tom Cruise and J. Lo, and you probably won't think of this lump "hollywood" as a town full of Scrooge McDucks swimming around in their earnings

and no, idiot, it's obvious i'm not comparing the actor's wages/conditions to slavery, but the principle of zero compensation with regards to the field of new media that makes the others millions. if metaphor & advanced thinking are tricky for you, you sadly may want to try reading something simpler than a blog. like a blank page.
