According to an LA Times report, a UCLA Med Center staffer was dismissed for illegally accessing Farah Fawcett's medical records.
Fawcett's lawyers expressed concern that her med information was subsequently leaked or sold to tabloids. *Cough* *Cough*
Shortly after UCLA doctors told Fawcett that her cancer had returned the National Enquirer posted the news on its website!! And, it was BEFORE she could tell close family and friends!!!
Also, Fawcett's treatments made headlines in the Enquirer and its sister publication, the Globe, within days of Fawcett's treatments at the UCLA hospital.
No respect!
It's a shame that the shady staffers are sullying the Med Center's rep.

I work at a very large medical institution and peeking into patients' medical records is very common unfortunately. Many of my co-workers will not get their medical care there for that reason.
I work for a very known NYC hospital and have access to many famous patients that have been and are being treated. But I have never had the urge to even peek at their records. It's just fucking wrong! Besides, who gives a shit if J. Had an enema done?

My friend worked at the UCLA Ctr, but kept mum about any celebrity visits while working under Dr. Moy, one of the top dermatologists there. She stated HIPPA- a patient's right to confidentiality- which these dimwitted employees should have observed, like my friend. It's really a shame.
People who make their livelyhoods on being famous and having people interested in who they are and what they are doing shouldn't act so suprised when that extends into their very personal medical files. What is wrong with UCLA that they don't have a better system in place to protect their famous paitients. Celebs shouldn't be in fear of getting treatment because it might get leaked to someone like you Perez.

There should definitely be some stricter penalties put in place otherwise this will just keep happening. The people responsible for this should be punished.
Cancer must be hard enough, espeically when you've just found out, and then she has to deal with everyone else knowing about it, it isnt fair.
A persons medical file should be private, doctors and other medical workers know this, to go and publish it to others is just shocking and shows such disrespect to your patient.

I work at a local hospital here and we have something called HIPPA. If you do anything that could count as breaking HIPPA not only will be you fired but you are looking at a hefty fine of 50,000.00. I hope who ever leaked this story was paid very well becasue HIPPA will come after you and take all your snich money!
