A group of pirates seized a French luxury yacht this past weekend AND its crew of 30 people.

Kidnapped by pirates???

For real!

So far no ransom demands have been made.

The French military is after them pirates (and the captive crew)!

Where have you been, Perez? There have always been modern-day pirates, especially in the Indian Ocean, South China Seas, and off the coast of eastern Africa. This story about the French ship is nothing new. This happens all the time. The U.S. Navy has been involved in several skirmishes with pirates around Somalia in the last several years. Even as I write this, there are a few hostage situations that have been going on for weeks involving pirates who got caught red-handed.

During the first season of "Survivor," the waters around the island were controlled by pirates. The producers had to strike a deal with them to allow them to do the show. They eventually came to terms, but the pirates gave the producers strict borders in the water that the cast and crew could not cross. The pirates told them that whoever crossed those borders would be killed. (The cast and crew talked a lot about this way back in Season 1 in the feverish days leading up to and following that first season finale.)

Pirates are nothing new.
