Out magazine has released their annual "Power 50" issue and they have named Perez #16 on that illustrious list of the most "Influential Gay Men & Women in America", which also includes the following people.

#1 Ellen DeGeneres, talk show titan
#13 Jodie Foster, closeted lesbian and actress
#16 Perez, your Queen of All Media
#19 Greg Berlanti, Brothers & Sisters creator
#24 Suze Orman, recently out financial guru and TV personality
#25 Tom Ford, fashion maven
#31 Rosie O'Donnell, blogger

If any young kids are reading this - gay or not, those that are different, those that aren't stick-thin, those that aren't conventionally "beautiful"…

What I love about Perez is that he reminds me not to take certain parts of life too seriously.

Doodles and silly name calling really can't hurt too many people. Most of his targets know that being in the public eye means having to deal with the public's opinion. Besides he can be really funny.

Part of loving yourself is being able to laugh at yourself.

And sometimes Perez has used his position to bring attention to more serious issues.

As some one pointed out in this list of comments, public discussion and awareness about transexuals is lacking. So even if Perez seems just silly when posting about that fascinating Bulgarian transexual popstar, he does successfully get people talking about transexuals. Even if the commentary by some readers is juvenile, its good that a discussion starts.
