Woman who killed two Scientologists pleads not-guilty

A 25-year-old woman has today pled not-guilty to the murder of her father and sister, who were active members of the Church of Scientology.

The woman today pled not-guilty to their murders at the New South Wales Supreme Court, following their stabbings deaths last year.

It is believed that the woman was suffering from a significant psychotic illness, but was denied assistance from mental health professionals because of her family's religious beliefs.

The Church of Scientology regularly campaign against the use of psychiatry and mental health professionals in problems faces by it's members.

It was alleged last year that the woman was prevented from receiving assistance from the New South Wales Health Department because of her parents had refused the treatment.

The then 24-year-old went on to stab both her father and sister, and also injured her mother.

A trial date has been set down for July, with the case only expected to last about one week.

It is understood the main issue will be that of the woman's mental health, and any assistance given to her from about 2006 onwards.

You know, this is really sad. When someone has psychotic illnesses such as Schizophrenia and it goes untreated, the nature of the illness is delusional and paranoid thinking that is out of the person's control. The parents really should have had this girl on specific medications to help ease the symptoms of this horrible mental illness. I wish public people like Tom Cruise and his wife would wake up and realize that their faith is hardcore dogma-and it is a cult.

I know it's horrible to say so, but these people sound like the "bad ending" that usually comes from following a cultish group that forces you to alter your lifestyle to the point of suspending rational thought. Yes, any religion asks that to a certain point, but not when it comes to medicine. No matter the denomination, (and I consider $cientology a cult) if you have a legitimate illness and need medical treatment, you should get it, regardless of religious doctrine. Someone with serious psychological illness needs treatment, for their protection, as well as those around them. Unfortunately, this family courted trouble by choosing to follow $cientology rather than medical advice. This result was predictable. What could they have possibly thought would happen otherwise? Sad, and proof of just how dangerous $cientology is.

I heard about a mother that was a Scienologist & her son was a schitzophnic and would not get any real help because Scientologists only believe in natural suppliments. Religon or not the goverment needs to do something & override Religous believes that don't require geting the proper treatment!

I don't care what those nut cases say, some people need to be medicated and if not at least locked up. Meds give some mentally unbalanced people the ability to be productive citizens. I actually work for a healthcare facility and the ones that are admitted to psych wards are the ones who think they don't need their meds anymore. With Tom's crazy behavior I think a few shots of thorazine would help his compulsion from jumping on couches and acting all crazy. So what does Glib Ass Tom got to say? People with severe psychosis need medication and when they don't get it this is what happens. Psychotic individuals can experience visual and auditory hallucinations that can be very very frightening and they are "real" for the person experiencing them. They can suffer from delusional thoughts. If these individuals feel frightened and threatened they defend themselves in extreme ways that make no sense to those of us who are not mentally ill. Grus, this isn't a case of someone claiming temporary insanity. Obviously you don't know anyone with a dissociative disorder, or you wouldn't speak this way. These people truly have many symptoms such as hallucinations, voices, dillusions, to name a few. The medicine can help to alleviate these symptoms, unfortunately, at times a person on meds will stop taking them because they feel "cured."
