At least they are in Venezuela!
Dictator President Hugo Chavez has ordered that The Simpsons TV show be removed from all broadcasting in Venezuela.
Why?????
The animated program was deemed "unsuitable for children."
Apparently, the show was on the verge of breaching the "Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television."
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) said The Simpsons pushed “messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents”.
The show will no longer appear in its 11:00am time slot. Instead, the government has opted for a more "educational" show.
BAYWATCH!!!!!
They're playing BAYWATCH over THE SIMPSONS, because apparently Bart and Lisa are just too hazardous for kids to watch!
As of today, the NTC has yet to explain how a cartoon show is more of a threat to children than almost naked ladies, wet from head to toe, in extra tight bathing suits.
Elba Guillen, a spokesperson for Televen TV station, said “It had to be taken off. The government considers it to be a series that isn’t appropriate for that time because it isn’t appropriate for children.”
OMG!!! And Baywatch at 11am is appropriate for children???
The manager of Televen, Perez Nahim, said “We are hoping it will continue to have a good rating, because The Simpsons worked very well - so much so that it had the highest levels of viewership for that morning timetable in the history of the channel."
Yea, that makes sense, remove the highest watched cartoon show on the network.

Excuse me, but The Simpsons is not just a "cartoon show". It is a satirical show that amuses adults just as must as the kids, we just don't laugh at the same things. But it gives the message, between the lines, to be critical, not to oblige to power, etc, which is probably why Chavez doesn't want anyone to watch it…

To be fair he IS right, The Simpsons are NOT for children. It's the reason they're on later at night as opposed to being on Saturday mornings. However replacing it with Baywatch of all things? What ever happened to Sesame Street, or the Spanish version which is Plaza Sesamo??? Dora the Explorer?

I think the Simpsons are pretty cool to watch. HOWEVER, I don't let my kids watch it anymore. My son James , 8, thought it was pretty funny to kick his friend in the balls after watching. While that's not all that bad..he did it at school and got suspended! He was even more of a smart ass after I let him watch it. Sounds stupid, but, I would rather him watch Baywatch!

This is a disgrace! I'm venezuelan and I grew up watching all kinds of TV (including the Simpsons) without censorship, but as we all know Mr. Chavez perefers to address non-important problems rather than deal with a country of poverty, corruption and insecurity. I hope we get rid off him soon. Those who don't actually live in Venezuela have no idea of how much this man has hurt the country for years to come.
I hope to God you never have children Perez. I have watched both shows, simpsons and baywatch, and I would never ever let my kids watch the simpsons. It can be graphic, violent, and just plain stupid. Yes there are half naked women running around in Baywatch….but the plot in itself is completely harmless. I don't think you realize how you may influence young minds, it pains me to know that you probably make more money than a teacher and a cop put together to write ignorant comments.

They were right to remove it at 11am. Bart and Homer aren't great role models. I don't like my 12 year old watching because he loves the trouble bart gets into at school. Baywatch, at least there is a pretense of a plot and it has taught cpr to some children. Instead of taking it off all together, they should put it on after 8 pm

Thats just dum…I don't watch that show, but I think its retarted that the government is telling kids what they can & can't watch…thats a parents job. If the parent of the kid lets them watch that show, the government has no right to cancel it. Parents should just grow up and raise thier kids properly….and baywatch? wtf….that so much worst! I never respond to these things but this is ridiculous anti-Chavez propoganda! Chavez did not order this. The TV station got a bunch of complaints about the Simpsons and decided (inexplicably) to but on Baywatch instead. Don't try to protray this as censorship. They're not saying they can't air the Simpsons, they're going to put it on later in the day. I hate to inform all you pinheads but Chavez was democratically elected. When the army took over, the people took to the streets in support of Chavez. This government hates Chavez because he dares to think for himself. Not to mention, you have completely missed the point of the post. They replaced The Simpsons with Baywatch because the Simpson's was not appropriate for children. Not Romper Room or Sesame Street, but Baywatch. They quite clearly are not concerned about not teaching idiocy. I have to mention too that The Simpson's is obviously for entertainment purposes. If anyone wants to pay 10 bucks (or whatever) to see ANY movie, then the argument may be made that it doesn't matter what one sees at that point. They still paid 10 bucks to watch a movie.
The truth is that Hugo got tired of jerking off to Bart Simpson and wanted some of that David Hasselhoff backtrim to stroke his chile to (-with his LEFT hand, of course).
