Look , I was in commercial banking for a number of years . I did many oil transactions , all in Texas. HUNDREDS of oil wells all rich in oil reserves.
Even today , oil and gas are HUGE in commercial banking and venture capital. We have a shitload of our own oil here in the states , what the hell is wrong with this picture ???

EVERY DAY I DRIVE TO WORK IN DETROIT & SEE THESE ASSHOLES DOING 80 IN A 55 ZONE JUST SUCKING DOWN THE GAS! AMERICANS ARE SO FUCKING SELFISH AND AGGRESSIVE THAT EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW WE ARE WASTING MILLIONS OF GALLONS EVERY DAY, WE'LL BE DAMNED IF WE WILL SLOW DOWN (NOT TO MENTION SAFETY!!!) TO CONSERVE. DOING 10 MPH BETWEEN 60 & 70 TAKES 3 TIMES THE GAS THAN BETWEEN 30 & 40. BUT NOOOOOOOOOO, I'VE JUST GOT TO GET AHEAD OF EVERYONE ELSE AND NOT LET ONE PERSON GET AHEAD OF ME! WELL FUCK YOU-SUFFER BITCHES, YOU'VE GOT WHAT YOU DESERVE!

Well, it's not President Bush's fault. It's either that, or pay more taxes. Take your pick.

    207

The president is not the one controlling oil prices. No doubt that he isnt exactly outright opposing them (which would do nothing to the oil price). But it is simple economics that the higher demand due to the newly industrialized china is what causes the price to go up. the more people want it and wont complain about paying for it the higher the gas companies can charge (hence record profits). This is global not just here in the U.S. as well as it is the market determining the gas price.

  8. 222 says – reply to this

    208

    You know what's worse?
Here in Victoria, BC, Canada, gas prices are at $1.20 per litre and up. When you consider there are about 4 litres in a gallon, that means we're paying about $4.80 per gallon. So… Let's just say I bus it to work. Save the environment, right?

  9. lindsay says – reply to this

    210

Ugh. This is unacceptable. Why do we pay all this money for gas, but Canada buys their gas FROM US and pay only a around $ 1.04 for a gallon? We're being cheated.

  11. Calla says – reply to this

    211

I live in Vancouver, BC and I just paid $1.26 per litre today. That's the equivalent of over $5 bucks a gallon. And it's way higher overseas. I would LOVE to pay your all time "high" of 3-something per gallon. Here's a small tear for you Americans… :'(

    215

No, the Prez doesn't control oil prices….but he is in the back pockets of Big OIL. No company should be able to rape American's pocket books for something we really need, like gas and food, while still making billions, yes billions in profits.

  16. David says – reply to this

    216

The President doesn't decide how much oil costs, its determined by the amount of resources that are available. If there is less to go around than usual, then the price will be higher and vice versa. Its decided by the oil companies and has nothing to do with the President, or any other country's leader for that matter.

You fucking idiot! The President does NOT set the price for oil…considering that 40% of our oil supply comes from fucking Venezuela, and the basic macroeconomic theory of supply & demand exists in the free world, blaming the president is an illogical suggestion…
There's no dramatic conspiracy here…obviously someone didn't take the effor to listen in their high school econ class…

Go to school and refresh on Economics and Government.

Gas prices are artifically high due to american speculators, not the president. Oh, yeah, that whole "blood for oil" thing? You'd think we'd have gotten some OIL out of that, wouldn't you? Everyone seems to forget that part. Go vote for Hillary and see if that fixes things.

  22. Bella says – reply to this

    222

P.S…considering some of the larger populations of the world (aka in China) are now emerging into the world market (Oh my!), therefore they are "DEMANDING" more modern conveniences that require oil to run them (aka homes, cars, jobs, etc.)…so before you mouth off and blame Bush (I'm sure is someone like Clinton was in office, you certainly wouldn't be blaming him/her for high oil prices…)

  23. Vince says – reply to this

Mr. President?? You mean Mr. President of Shell Oil Co., or BP, etc. Bush doesnt control oil prices. Blame OPEC, you know, the big oil conglomerates that spike prices because they want more of our money? Remember them? Not to mention it's coming to be travel season, gas prices are going to inflate during the summer because more people go on vacation, and thus, use and demand more gas.

    Idiot.

  37. Perez Is a Lemming!! says – reply to this

Really, Perez — did you even go to school? First, OPEC controls over 70% of the oil pricing, the oil companies are also in the business to make money — not lose money! If you were losing money with your business, would you continue to do it - NO. The main stream media covers "big oil's record breaking profits," however, they don't mention PROFIT MARGINS.
You - and about 60% of the US Population needs to take a fucking economics class. Like #1 said, it's supply and demand - pure and simple.
Dumbass - stick to your mindless celebrity gossip and leave the REAL news to REAL journalists.

ugh, i like how only very few people realize oil is a global economy. attacking the president for higher oil costs is ignorant. if anything the president would want them lower. besides he doesn't make decisions alone, congress and senate have the ability to override most decisions. interesting how things have gotten worse with the dems holding power….

    Perez,
You are an idiot. Your gaytastic liberalism blinds you to the fact that both the house and senate are controlled by democrats. How can the president be to blame when democrats have more control over legislation than he does. If the government and George Bush were manipulating gas prices…democrats are even more to blame cause they have control. Here is a quick education for you…speculators … and simple supply and demand. Just stick to commenting on things that take no educational background. That way you won't sound like a moron.

  44. ??????? says – reply to this

    244

It is digustingly funny that under both Nixon and Bush's administration Cheney was in both cabinets, and is the person that is involved with Haliburton. Everybody thinks oil prices are controled by supply and demand well I think this is horse shit!! If that was true then how come we did not have any problems when Clinton was president? This administration are greedy, ruthless, murderous, thieves…. they could care less what happens to this country as long as they are making money. I can't wait for them to leave if they ever do.

If conservatives would start thinking with your brains instead of your wallets and stop picking team (republicans) over country. This country would be a much better place to live!!! You republicans live in your own little world to bad that little world is no where close to reality.

If you are going to blame anyone, blame the democrats and the environmentalists. We have not built a new refinery in 20 years, we can not exploit the rescources that we have because of them. The ball is squarely in their court, the liberals have absolutely no leg to stand on in this argument. Basic economic principle: a consumer acting logicly will always exploit opportunities.

  56. taravalente says – reply to this

    256

You think that's expensive- it is more than $1.22/litre here in canada-do the math-3.78 litres in a gallon- $3.343 (us-per gallon) -basically 88 cents per litre- seeing that our dollar is basically worth the same as yours- who is really getting screwed? He is not even our president!

Stop whining, the faster it goes up, the harder it will come back down.

The market responds to supply shocks because there is money to be made. The Bakken Oil field has 200 billion barrels - 50 years USA supply
    Only problem is:
    * Dems stop us from drilling
    * Dems stop Oil Refineries - none in 20 years
    * Dems stop nuclear - no carbon emmissions
    * Dems are the party of NO - No Nukes, No oil, No Victory.
    * Nuclear: one empty mountain and we dump oil forever
    * Dems promote green fuel so we go 4 ethanol - result: corn price rises - duh!
    * How bout those gas taxes per gallon?
    * Dems next bright idea: Price controls - get ready for the 1970s, hours in gas lines, and odd plates on odd days of the month!!!

I'm an economics teacher, and I always have to reiterate to the kids that our President has absolutely no control over oil prices. OPEC sets the cost for a barrel of oil. They have been raising their prices, they claim, due to the US dollar going down in value, which is covering all their investments in the US market. So as much as I'd love to blame this horrible President, it is simply something he has no control over.

Please stop blaming the president for gas&oil prices. I work in the industry and trust me, if there was something we could do to lower the prices - we would. In fact the corporation I work for, which is widely known on the east coast - its not a rinky dink newbie, actually LOSES money in the gas station group. We lose about $0.02/dekatherm. It is not the President telling everyone to make the prices higher, its where the gas is purchased - they rip us off - and local competition.

I'm a little confused: If it is supply & demand… and they need more people to get the oil/gas…. and our unemployment rate is how much??? I find it hard to believe the whole supply & demand thing. I think its just that the oil companies are evil wealthy bastards getting rich off of our sorrows.

How much would gas be if we werent at war? Is that the real reason we cant leave yet, are we ever going to leave? If McCain wins he's said he wants to go into Iran next. Im sorry but Im starting to believe we are there for the oil, we are in a strong competition for oil. So again is that why we are there? I dont believe in the boogy man and if thats what the president is selling Im not buying!

Re: Drew – Umm, actually Dickhead Bush wants to SPECIFICALLY drill in an endangered whales habitat and salmon spot in Alaska. I just read the article and it stated that things might go underway next year after doing the research and all that bullshit. But Bush is a dick he could care less about our endangered animals he just wants fucking oil. THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION lifted the ban to drill there last year. So stop with the Liberal bru haha. Want gas! Kill a whale!!! YEAHHHHH …fucking assholes

The Bristol Bay is home to endangered Northern Pacific right whales and Steller sea lions. It is also one of the world’s most productive fishing grounds, with and important snow crab fishery and the planet’s largest sockeye salmon run.

But President Bush has a different vision for this precious piece of the Pacific: he wants to turn it over to profit-rich Big Oil, lifting a moratorium that has been in place since the disastrous Exxon Valdez spill.

YOU SEE!!! ITS ALL BUSH!!! HE"S CAUSING THE MADNESS IN SOME WAY!!! Yeah he might not be in charge of the oil prices but FUCKIN COME ON PEOPLE!!! This asshole wants to drill wherever he pleases and endanger the lives of animals and fish that WE NEED TO EAT! And fisherman need their JOBS!! They are in ALASKA For Christ's sake!!! I'd rather drill oil in another fuckin country desert whatever the fuck than kill our species for it! Republicans, and the Bush administration are GREEDY Fucks!!
