Last year, nearly 175 underage drinkers were admitted and treated in Britain's Hull Royal Infirmary for drinking related illnesses.
Now, a CHILD has been admitted to the hospital with a drinking problem. A CHILD!!!
A SIX year old child (not the infant pictured above)!
How could the parents let this happen??????
The director of public health for the Hull Royal Infirmary, Wendy Richardson, said: "I can't comment on individual cases, but I'm shocked as any responsible person would be."
The six year old will be joining other young drinkers who are being treated for similar alcohol addiction problems.
A report was released regarding the drinking habits of people 25 and under in the area. Around 500 people were questioned about their drinking habits.
Surprisingly, the findings showed that up to 95% of those questioned are drinking at a harmful level. And more than a fifth had their parents buy them alcohol.
Damn, we knew those Brits could outdrink them Americans, but - as Mariah would say - this is O.O.C. (Out Of Control, babies)!

Perez, you are the man for posting this. Everyone who is not American is always bashing us because yeah, our country is fucking stupid, but DAMN! They're raising a bunch of liver sufferers and brain dead kids…shame.
This tends to affect children from a lower socioeconomic status. With parents who are abusing alcohol and or drugs themselves, not to mention their children, it is no wonder that a child may follow by example. Children are easily influenced and don't know the implications drugs and alcohol can have in terms of long-term effects. Often times children from difficult homes lash out in violence, and develop substance abuse problems. The fact that 1/5 of parents supplied their children with alcohol clearly points to a lack of education and responsibility that needs to be addressed. It is surprising that it is happening at such a young age, however the problem is cyclical and there needs to be more social funding and awareness.
This world is getting out of control. Where's the responsibility of the parents?

Unfortunatly Britain isn't as stringent with their alcohol laws and the legal age to drink is 18 so any children who look older for their age regularly hit the off licence to purchase cheap alcopops. The age should be risen to 21 with all kids having ID cards.
Mind you, I remember back in the day when my mum would let me have a small glass of wine - I had a dreadful headache the day Elvis died. Also, I actually learnt how to walk when I drank some of her sherry whilst she was in the kitchen making dinner - the next day I was crawling again. I literally was, staggering around drunk.

My first cousin is from England and he started drinking very young. He had to drop out of college coz of his drinking. He's be passed out in the floor around a shitload of people and pull his pants down and just take a shit while passed out and while people where standing there getting drunk. As a mother of a 16-year old I find this disturbing. The parents are responsible for a 6-year olds drinking problem. Whether it's in the States of Great Britain is not the issue, what is the issue is the irresponsibility on the part of that poor child's parents

the thing about the Uk is that, yes the legal age to buy alcohol is 18 but MOST places(not all though) will ask for ID regardless
in alot of shops there is a sign that says something like "lucky enough to look under 21?? then be prepared to be asked for ID" or something like that, hell i know someone who got told that she looked under 15 and she is about 19.
but there are lot of teens who get random people to buy them drink, its terrible

It was a Christmas sort of party trick to get the littlest kid drunk on guinness in my family, my brother when he was about two fell off a counter once. My first steps were to try and get a glass of booze from my mum but I have never drunk as a teenager. So :p
But this is terrible - almost as bad as those little drug addict toddlers in the USA quite a few years back - plain bad parenting.

One can't help but ask what the numbers are in the US. I can only imagine that it would be exponentially higher considering the drinking age is ridiculously high there and the population is far greater.
Unfortunately, bad parenting exists across the globe. I can however, understand the logic of many parents. Buying alcohol for their children so that they can supervise their behaviour in a somewhat controlled setting.
Far better to be aware of what your children are up to then otherwise.
I think I remember when Drew Barrymore was talking about her fight to clean up her life and she said she was an alcoholic by the time she was 10 years old. That was the start of a terrible time with drugs and alcohol. THat is why I love Drew. She has been trhough so much, with neglectful parents, substance abuse, etc. and she managed to come out the other side and survive and she is so sweet.

I was in London a while back and it was horrible. Being from Canada, they all thought I was American and treated me like total shit! The people were incredibly rude. Even if I told them I was from Canada they rolled their eyes and thought I was lying. It was the first and only time I actually felt sorry for Americans. I could imagine if I lied and told them I was American. It would not of been pretty!
