Last year, nearly 175 underage drinkers were admitted and treated in Britain's Hull Royal Infirmary for drinking related illnesses.
Now, a CHILD has been admitted to the hospital with a drinking problem. A CHILD!!!
A SIX year old child (not the infant pictured above)!
How could the parents let this happen??????
The director of public health for the Hull Royal Infirmary, Wendy Richardson, said: "I can't comment on individual cases, but I'm shocked as any responsible person would be."
The six year old will be joining other young drinkers who are being treated for similar alcohol addiction problems.
A report was released regarding the drinking habits of people 25 and under in the area. Around 500 people were questioned about their drinking habits.
Surprisingly, the findings showed that up to 95% of those questioned are drinking at a harmful level. And more than a fifth had their parents buy them alcohol.
Damn, we knew those Brits could outdrink them Americans, but - as Mariah would say - this is O.O.C. (Out Of Control, babies)!

yes us brits are shameful! a friend of a friend got admitted to hospital like 2 years ago for alcohol poisoning … he was 16 at the time…. i blame the parents and the kids!
OK maybe 6 is a disgusting age to be admitted for alcohol problems, but don't discriminate all us English/British for underage drinking problems. There is nothing for the kids to do round here at all so the easiest way to find fun is to get hammered. I myself started drinking on streets and outside shops at 13 cos there was nothing for us to do (even the youth club was only held for 2 hrs every other wk so nobody actually makes an effort to entertain the kids, and the parents can't always be blamed cos mums like mine had to work late or throughout the school hols just to afford the rent and food.
Also if they do decide to change the age to 21 here then I know for a fact there will be even more underage peeps drinkin on the streets - yes including myself, cos i (as well as many others) look forward to our occasional nights out to let our hair down, have fun and drink our stress' away, after none stop work.

I don't live far from Hull, and in all honesty, it doesn't surprise me at all. I see 12 year old kids drinking in the streets most nights, and days too. Its a totally out of control problem that our government think they can solve by raising the price of booze, which only punishes those of us who drink responsibly. It isn't fair to charge more on alcohol because kids drink, kids and their parents need to be taught why they shouldn't drink to excess, and its effects.

the majority of teens in the UK drink, from the age of 14 my friends and i would regularley drink! now i am at uni and drink large quantities a few times a week, i dont class it as a problem as i dont depend on it. my friend is 19 and has had 2 cases of liver damage. its not healthy but its a part of our culture.

I remember my sister falling down drunk when she was 4 and cracking her head open. My dad got yelled at at the emergency room, but that was about it. It was a LOT different in those days (over 40 years ago) but we turned out fine. Do I agree with it?? NO!!! But don't make it a bigger deal than it is.

I think its out of control, I mean, girls in my year at school (year 9) have wild parties at weekends and get completely drunk. One girl in my class went to one and her first time getting drunk ended up in A&E. It is out of control, but you can't tell me that there are no underage drinkers in america. And, yes I do have alcohol at special occasions but I've never been drunk or even tipsy, its a traditional thing in my family. When my mum was little, she used to drink wine in secret, that my grandparents bought for dinnerparties, shes perfectly fine. I think americans can criticize us when their country is perfect.

I've never seen drinking like the drinking I saw in Great Britain. These were young professionals out after work, pounding down beers and those vodka flavored drinks by the dozen. That's why this story sadly doesn't surprise me.

I'm English and I know there is a HUGE problem with alcohol here. I'm 17 and first got drunk when I was only 11. Here, it is the NORM for kids to drink. It is the As a society, we hold the completely wrong attitude. It's normal for kids as young as 13 to go into nightclubs and getting served alcohol. There are too many parents who turn a blind eye to their kids drinking and actually encourage it. It's seen as unusual or abnormal for someone under the age of 18 to NOT be going out drinking. Everyone knows the law but the fact is, no one pays attention to it.
They're talking about increasing tax on alcohol or changing the legal drinkink age to 21 but its not the law we need to change, its societies attitude.

It's stories like this that make me ashamed to be from Hull at times. But you cant paint everyone with the same brush. We're not all like this. Unfortunetly in this country there is a drinking culture among teens and over the years the kids that are drinking are getting younger and younger. Here you can legally buy booze at 18 but unless you look older than 21 they ask you for ID. I still get asked for ID and i'm nearly 24. The problem is that the underage thugs hang around shops and get people to go and buy booze for them. I always refuse, for example 2 girls asked me the other day, they cant have been any older than 12 or 13. But i can understand why sometimes people feel threatened. I mean if you say no to a gang of youths then you risk getting your head kicked in or getting stabbed. You never know these days. The kids will say it's because they're bored and there's nothing to do but i don't buy it. I blame it on the parents that dont know how to control their kids and dont teach them discipline.

ive been drinking since 13 without my parents knowing because its so easy to stand outside a shop with £3 and ask someone to go in and get a 3ltr bottle of cider to get wrecked. i also think it was down to knowing older people who were always like "go on" which influenced us younger ones. when i reached about 15 and my mum knew that i was gettin drunk every now and again she wasnt that bothered, as long as i wasnt like constantly coming home pissed out of my tree. now im 18 i dont think that starting drinking early has had any adverse effect on me i mean im off to uni in september =]
the other day there were a group of 14 yr olds stood outside the shop and they asked me to get them beer and i refused and when me and a friend refused they started shouting abuse at us like calling my friend a fat lesbian and stuff (she wasnt bothered just like "yeah and??") so i think many people are intimidated by gangs of hoodies stood outside shops.
my cousins fiancee from tennessee was so shocked at all the teenage drinking and stuff she said to me at a family party"your mom is so laid back compared to mine, mine would be all like "PUT THAT DRINK DOWN NOW." the thing is that i dont think any new laws like putting the drinking age to 21 would change anything coz your still gnna get kids hanging around shops and asking for it whether the age is 18 or 21 or 40.

yeah, well, it's not like we don't have an underage drinking problem here in the USA, esp. with a drinking age of 21! I lived all over the States (D.C., California, Michigan, Vermont, Illinois) when I was younger, and almost every kid in high school (14-18 yrs old) and many in middle school (11-13 or 14) drank or would get drunk (some more than others, etc.). Believe me, there are definitely American alcoholics who are under 17 or 16 years old! It's just that in the USA we are more "hush-hush" about it and tend to keep it all a secret.

No Americans are of AMERICAN ancestory (apart from the Native Americans) but they still class themselves as American so just because some evil AMERICANS (whose ancestors were from England) started slavery does not make it the fault of the English (it makes it the fault of the Americans!) And so what if George Bush is descended from Brits who came over on the Mayflower? Does that make him Englsih? NO! He's still American! Marilyn Monroe was also descended from the Mayflower-does that mean she's English? dont get me wrong.. I hate ALL Americans (including those whose ancestors came from England!) They were our TRASH and we got RID OF THEM! (just like Germany, France, Ireland, Spain, Italy and all other European nations did when they sent some of their people packing over to teh New World.) Its not just the Brits that HATE Americans…its EVERY1!!!!
