Yesterday, we told you the exciting news that his Purple Highness will be performing at the Coachella Music Festival near Palm Springs later this month, and now we're told how and why his appearance came into fruition.
"Prince was a late late addition to the line-up," a source tells us. "The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar - in comparison to years past - roster of performers."
And, it cost them mucho dinero to get the tiny dynamo to perform at Coachella.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Prince was NOT paid $4 million. Coachella single day passes are already SOLD OUT prior to Prince being added. A $4 million fee would require 16,000 extra 3 Day passes being sold just to pay that figure - impossible. The Rolling Stones fee is about $1.5 million. Coldplay is about $1 million. NIN is about $750K. Prince? Puleeze. He can't sell an album, can't sell a tshirt and doesn't tour. I say they gave him a mil, MAYBE, hoping for another 5,000 people.

It's free advertisement…and the more YouTube plays you get, the more people will go out and buy you're CDs, MP3's, movies and concert videos. I myself would love you to post first generation copies of all of your videos, rare concert performances, and those of the artists you have discovered and developed. Elton John was on Larry King the other night talking about Prince and insinuated how moody and difficult he is. I went to see Prince in 2004, and I happened to see him watching opening act Nelly Furtado. He gave me the coldest look anyone's ever given me. I paid $100 to see the main attraction give me a dirty look.

Just got back from a special show at Greendoor in L.A. with Prince — only about 175 people there. He is absolutely amazing and you know you are watching a true legendary performer. He sang "cream" , "1999" and "purple rain" to close the show. Unforgettable evening!

His concert is the only concert I have been to where you can get on stage with the performer and dance with him and I and two of my girlfriends got up on stage at a sold out third night concert in DC years ago. There were rules but we were allowed to be on stage in front of 30,000 plus peeps and him. That was cool as shiat, period. Bono never pulled me on stage…. And is coachella a benefit for something or is it just like a lollapalooza type deal? Prince is a performer and it costs money for him to be there with his dancers and sound guys and equipment and the rest of his entourage. He has major percussionists and horns in his show, peeps who are big deals in the music community….that's why it costs.
Luv Prince. Since I first saw him as a litttle girl in Purple Rain. He deserves every cent he gets because he is a great performer and always delivers. Besides Amy Winehouse, who has only been around a hot minute now gets one million dollars for performing at private parties alone.

Have to say, after attending one of Prince's mighty concert weekends in Minneapolis a few years ago, I'm really not a fan of the Purple one. Fans were treated like cattle, we lost money through fees paid to ticketmaster for a concert that was subsequently rescheduled for Paisley Park and where cash only was accepted as we waited in line for hours to get into a concert we'd already paid money to attend and for which seats had been assigned. His security detail, at one point, completely unnecesarily created a human chain to force the "crowd" back. It was really demeaning, and really frustrating. The guy's talented- there's no getting past it- but he's also a Diva with a capital D, that, in the end, totally turned this fan off. His image just gives me the heebie jeebies now.
