Noel Gallagher told BBC News that Jay-Z is just plain wrong for the famous British festival Glastonbury.
"If it ain't broke don't fix it," said the Oasis twat. "If you start to break it then people aren't going to go. I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go 'Kylie Minogue?' I don't know about it. But I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong."
Noel is certain that Jay's inclusion on the bill explains the festival's mediocre ticket sales this year. There were 100,000 tickets sold for Glastonbury on the first day, but in past years all tickets had sold out in a matter of hours.
Is Jay to blame?
Did Gallagher consider that maybe the other bookings weren't strong or that music fans are experiencing festival fatigue?
There seems to be a festival scheduled every other weekend somewhere in the U.K. during the summer season!

Noel Gallagher is undoubtedly a monobrowed dickhead hasbeen, but he's not entirely wrong about Jay-Z. Apart from a couple of big hits, Jay-Z has never been really huge in the UK and hip-hop is kind of over, anyway. Mind you, so is Glastonbury.

Maybe you USA citizens need to realize that hip hop is over, caput, finito in Europe, we're not taking that craptastic music no more. Its the end of a genre's popularity peak that lasted way too long than it should have … USA is just a bit slower to react to mainstream musical changes, although HIP HOP sales have been already declining over there for a while.

The initial ticket sales were probably mediocre this year, as it always rains when the festival is on.
If Jay-Z wasn't there, i'd probably say that the initial ticket sales would be far fewer than 100,000.

Glastonbury isn't just about the headline acts, it's a vast festival with a multitude of experiences - and the most interesting things aren't seen on the main stages. I reckon the main reason for the lack of sales is more to do with the fact people are just fed up with trudging around in the mud. If I didn't have to work there I'd give it a miss cause it's exhausting and miserable! Pray for sunshine!

most people who go to festivals are mainly people who like guitar music. be that metal, rock or indie. It aint the same with pop acts or hip hop.
At least festivals often put the dance acts in tents where that works,
50 cent came to a swedish festival last year or something (Hultsfred) and that was the worst year of selling tickets and think they lost money and the festivals reputation has gone downhill- so I think it is pretty obvious that who you book is important.
Glastonbury is THE festival in the UK, so it is quite worrying that it took so long to sell out,
if there is just one hip hop act I doubt hip hop fans are willing to spend all that money on a ticket and travel there to just see that one act,

Maybe you couldnt handle all the drinking, partying etc. I have many friends that go to the Leeds festival and the V festival and they are a week after each other, luckily there is a summer bank holiday so you dont have to take too much time off work.
I live in sweden now and am going to 2 festivals this summer - if another wasnt on at the same time as the peace and love festival I'd be going to 3!!!!

glastonbury has always been an indie festival.
and although they havnt been that active in recent years, oasis still have an enormous following in the uk, which is perhaps hard to judge from across the pond.
meanwhile, jay-z has never been particularly popular here.
i have persoanlly heard many people who had registered for glastonbury tickets cite jay-z as the reason they chose not to actually buy any.
yes, there are a lot of festivals in the uk, but glastonbury has a reputation for being the oringinal and best, and if the tickets arent selling, then undoubtedly the lineup is partly responsible.
in previous year thousands have braved terrible weather and floods to watch the bands… and it seems jay-z doesnt inspire the same level of commitment.
although to be fair, the rest of the lineup isnt exactly stellar either.

Noel, is right. Thank God someone had the balls to say enough is enough. Its a rock festival not a rap festival. Its a place for musician who play real instruments and where people sing. A turntable is not a muical instrument. Instead of sampling other peoples music why doesn't he learn how to play guitar; write some songs; and then sing them. Until then he's not a real musician and doesn't deserve to be onstage with them. Rock'n Roll is the new underground again and we're coming back with a vengence to banish this boring hip hop bullshit from the planet. Also, it has just been announced on the news that the complex registration process for buying tickets for the festival may have had an impact on sales. And we all know that Glastonbury has crappy weather during the festival - so maybe that's had a affect too?
