Yes, other methods are quicker at reporting new developments. But a newspaper is a perfect way to have a concrete record of news from any town, village, state, city, country that will last in a tangible form. Definitely something to preserve. And the focus the story gives to minorities is like combining two stories. One has nothing to do with the other. The whole industry is changing. So to keep goals of minorities in roles is somewhat juvenile. Interesting they seem somewhat happy with having a "percentage" number to go by and not caring so much that hundreds are out of jobs……..

Good. Kids and coeds are getting backaches from all those silly backpacks.

Terminator days, machines take over the world. this nifty little device created by man called the internet will eliminate jobs done by humans!

And good riddance considering the fecal matter that they hire as so-called reporters. At least the bimbo newsreaders on TV look good when they are sucking donkey.

Funny you should mention this, I just canceled my subscription to my local Daily. I loved the paper, but it's so damned expensive to subscribe to - and in these economic times, it had to GO!

      24

Those statistics don't mean anything, if they don't include the percentage of minority reporters/journalist/ people that are trying to be writers.

We don't know if this is maybe not a profession that a lot of ethnic minorities aspire to. If that is the case, then it obviously won't mean anything if the percentage of minorities in those jobs is smaller than the overall percentage in the population.

Re: MARACANAZO1950 – WTF…are you are the right blog, dude??

    28. kel says – reply to this

      28

Why does EVERYTHING have to be so freakin' race oriented? How about people are people…if anyone wants to be a journalist then go to school and apply at a paper. Get a job for your brain and NOT your skin color. Wasn't "affirmative action" so 1980's??

    29. Jo says – reply to this

People are no longer as educated as they once were and it shows… newspapers write with integrity and concerning important issues. Perhaps people do not realize that the internet can crash and our precious blogs (perez) could be down at times… omg, how will we get the news? Read a damn paper. Be an informed person. Reading not only expands your mind, but it requires more work than looking at pictures and listening to the news on TV.

      Sad, sad, sad.

    32. caitlin says – reply to this

      32

Re: Sandi – Not only does it expand the mind, but real newspapers have a certain social responsibility and can't post whatever they want (or like stupid opinion "news" shows or sites), but facts. Online journals are turning people into misinformed crazy people who all think they are right without any legitimate source. This makes me sad because I really wanted to be a journalist.

    33. Megalomaniac166 says – reply to this

      33

Yeah, you'd know since you're a "real journalist" and all. You give us all a bad name.

    34. steven says – reply to this

      34

newspapers are dying because of websites like this that give us news about stupid celebrities that we really shouldnt care about and not enough news about actual important issues that could impact us in the future. I dont think we're gonna be hurting from lindsay lohan going back to rehab…..i mean c'mon im getting so sick of only seeing and reading about other people that arent doing anything. We should honestly start focusing on the earth and how we're destroying it because y'know that is our only reason we are here now….not because of the stars in the world today. HOLLAAAA

Nobody will miss these liberals rags. The slow extinction of newspapers shows how truly revolutionary the Internet is.

Re: kel – I totally agree - I also think its funny that at the end of the article they throw in men/women ratios… who cares? Then more colored women should work there, or stop complaining.

It's mildly encouraging that the minority percentage held steady despite difficult economic times that are causing many cutbacks," ASNE President Gilbert Bailon

…It sounds like Mr bailon is happy that the people being fired are white!
