If your family does not support Scientology they tell you to leave them and cease contact. I already don't think that religious institutions should have tax exempt status. Re : Scientology. The USA as the country as we know it is only just over two centuries old. Young, compared to the cultures of Europe who can trace their rudiments back a couple of thousand years. If wisdom is any indicator of age, there is no wonder Roman Catholicism has been in Italy for almost two thousand years. There is no wonder that in Greece, the Orthodox Church is almost two thousand years old. And it is no wonder that Germany has declared that "Scientology is an organization which has primarily economical interests". The old are not nearly so impressionable as the young.
