Sweater-loving, Jello-eating, 80's sitcom dad Bill Cosby is releasing a 'feel good' hip hop CD in May.

Cosby Narratives Vol. 1: State of Emergency blends the comedian's concepts and stories with a hip-hop, pop and jazz soundtrack.

So what's Cosby's 'feel good' release going to address? "The value of an education. The value of respecting one's self and … giving (listeners) a chance to raise their self-esteem and confidence,” Cosby said.

Cosby's longtime musical collaborator Bill "Spaceman” Patterson commented, "He (Cosby) has always understood rap's potential, but he was appalled by the foul language and the misogyny — the way people used a medium that could be used to elevate people, to open their eyes and provoke thought.”

Guest rappers provided the 70-year old with the rhymes for the album.

We're glad Cosby is getting this out of his system. Now maybe he'll shut his piehole about how rap music is evil and shiz!

    17

Honestly, it would be a good idea if Bill got a younger, fresh faced rapper to be on the album instead of him. He's right, hip hop is awful. It degrades women and glorifies violence, drug use, and illegal ways of getting money. Not to mention, it makes black people look like idiots to the rest of the world. I wish hip hop would just die already, and I'm a 25 year old black female. Kudos to Bill, although, the youth of today will probably just laugh at the fact that he's an old guy rapping, and they won't pay attention to the message that he is trying to send out.

    20

Why don't you try shutting your piehole for once, Perez? He's right. Black people in America still aren't respected or dignified, and I think it's because of the shitty music they make and their attitudes of 'yeah, I'm the shit, even though I got a minimum wage job and a coke problem' or 'all I wanna do is fuck my bitch.' Apparently it's fine for black people to party all fucking day and have sex and shoot up, but why should any other ethnicity respect that if their idea of a 'successful business venture' is robbing a pawn shop? Rap music is fucking keeping them back, because it preaches 'party all the goddamn time and get your ass put in jail trying to afford it.' Fuck rap.

  21. CC says – reply to this

    21

I think this is great, but I also think that a lot of what Cosby has said in the past is true. And although it may be hard for some to swallow, he represents the successful black man, and we should be proud of what he has done. I am not particularly fond of rap but maybe if it wasn't so degrading it would be easier to listen to. I would listen to it.

  22. psychochick says – reply to this

  26. Kris-10 says – reply to this

    26

We can only WISH there were more black men like Mr. Cosby. I wish the black community would listen to what he's saying, because he speaks the truth. The truth that others are afraid to say in fear of being called a racist. But, he's RIGHT. And rap music IS evil…the majority of rap music is about guns, violence, gangs, and is so demeaning to women. Perez, you are seriously an idiot. You are like that kid that is always trying to show off and saying stupid things to seem "cool" in front of the in-crowd.

  27. The Sociological Facts Of The Matter says – reply to this

    27

Bill Cosby, as a member of the black race, is like a stable mountain in the midst of a wild violent chaotic thrashing sea of violence, ignorance, xenophobia, genocide, and complacency. Perhaps he can pick up where the Rev. MLK, Jr left off and inspire achievement and dignity as the route by which african americans can continue to advance their standing in modern society. Perez, as a member of a persecuted and stereotyped minority yourself, surely you have realized that gays will ultimately win respect by achievement, dignified behaviors, and some small compromise toward conformity. (You win by learning to play the game better, not by refusing to play the game, pouting, or thowing tantrums.)

  28. chimp says – reply to this

    29

Perez, you missed the boat on this one. Most rap is degrading today, against women and GAYS! All about the $$$. Bill Cosby has been a groundbreaking performer with his comedy routines and "The Cosby Show" was great since it showed that all blacks didn't live like "Good Times" in the projects (not that there's anything wrong with it), in that there are successul professional black people to look up to. He is more relevant to black culture than Fiddy, Kanye, or Jay-Z will ever be.

just to let you all know Bill Cosby is just a fucking uncle tom house negro(im black) he critisizes rap music when he's in the industry and he knows damn well that that is the record labels goals know to propmote only the ignorant rap and not shit with substance anybody who knows anything can tell you that if you rap about substance and the truth about this world you music won't fuckin see the light of day other than, but if it's volent and vain or is a catchy club bangersyou will get top notch priority if these fuckin record labesls actually spent money on the possitive rappers the industry would not be this way. BIll cosby aint never been to the hood and heard the real views of the poeple he;s just a fuckin uncle tom, and yes that is how the majority of blacks feel about him.

Only his way is positive.

    39

Poor Perez. You're not really very bright, are you?

Cosby is the only black I think of today ( at least high profile) that speaks the truth about the state of African American affairs. If King were alive today, he would be so far away from the Jessie Jacksons and Al Sharptons–people who point fingers for their own popularity. King didn't want HANDOUTS the way Sharpton and Jackson do.
Cosby is for responsibilty in action. Don't just stand their bitching about it—make your way.

Look into it –and get passed your own "Latinos Rule" bias and you might see something important that needs addressed in another culture. Frankly, you'e an embarrassment to gays.

It is about rising above that, refusing to participate in it, refusing to be victimized by it, and pulling our own african american selves up by our own bootstraps. Educate yourself. It's a terrible influence on the younger generation and makes us look like idiots. It's sad to think that Mr. Cosby represents a generation that had some character and common sense. We are getting worse with each generation instead of better. I grew up in the 70's. We had music that respected women and each other. I refuse to buy any of this crap they are putting out now. :)

    62

Come on Perez - you are twisting his words. He said that he thinks rap music can be so much more than it is - be something positive instead of glorifying cop killing, drug selling and ass tapping! I think it is high time a black leader has stood up and held the black community responsible for itself rather than blame others. Before you get all "Oh no she didnt" let me say that I agree that white america has had a tremendous amount of privilege and that historically black america has been oppressed and I know that there are some ignoramuses out there who hold tight to reacists beliefs. BUT at some point, we as a whole (black and white) have to say "No More" to the excuse of lack of opportunity when a young black man drops out of school and chooses to sell drugs or a young black girl gets pregnant, doesnt list the father on the birth certificate so she can get welfare without having to first seek child support, and wont return to school or get a job. I know things aint easy - I was there- poor as dirt, living in a trailer park. I had no advantages except a momma who loved me and was there for me. I got grants and loans and made my own way - nobody gave me nothing. And that is all Bill Cosby is saying, "Stand up, be responsible for yourself, dont drop out of school." Why you hatin' on him? Personal responsibility is the phrase of the day!!!

There are plenty of successful people who started out poor and worked hard to make it in the world. If someone is so weak minded to succumb to the negativity that surrounds them just because it's there, then they never had a chance to begin with.

#73 your comment is so ignorant. Any time a prominent black person tries to help it's own people with uplifting talk of education and not money, people like you always say crap like you just did.

Anyway, I agree with everything Bill Cosby is saying and trying to do. Black/Latinos (even white) people in the ghettos/inner cities need to wake the eff up and listen to what he's saying. He's right! It's a harsh message, and nobody likes to hear the truth, but we need to start hearing it if we want our lives to be better now and in the future. We can't be ignorant all our lives. (Dr. Cosby's message actually goes out to all people who think an education is "uncool")

This is JAy Z's verse in the dead Prez song "Hell Yeah", it's hot song and he is basically talking about how society is fucked up and how the government works.

    [Verse - Jay-Z]
As long as there's - drugs to be sold
I ain't waiting for the system to plug up these holes
I ain't slipping through the cracks
So I'm at Portland, Oregon tryin to slip you these raps
The first black in the suburbs
You'd think I had extasy, percocet, and plus syrup
The way the cops converged, they fucked up my swerve
The first young buck that I served
I thought back to the block
I never seen a cop when I was out there
    They never came out there
And out there, I was slinging crack to live
I'm only slinging raps to your kids
I'm only trying to show you how black niggaz live
But you don't want your little ones acting like this
Lil Amy told Becky, Becky told Jenny
And now they all know the skinny
Lil Joey got his durag on
Driving down the street blasting Tupac's song (Thug Life baby!)
But Billy like Sue, got his blue rag on
Now before you know it, you backing em
Now the police, got me in the middle of the street
Trying to beat me blue, black and orange
I'm like hold up, who you smacking on?
I'm only trying to eat what you snacking on

Don't be a hater, Perez, just cause Cosby is trying to be uplifting and has a piehole for good. Yours is for trash talk. We get that. But Cosby wants people to elevate themselves to a better, moral standard.

Re: Mike & HipHop And Rap Are Negative Trends That Will Inevitably Pass Into Obscurity & I Love Bill Cosby/MysticGem

Bill Cosby is slightly out of touch, but I agree with his outlook. Yes it is true that the industry does not promote "positive rap music," but thats because it won't be purchased. They are a business, and will act as such. Therefore the problem lies in the people, when rap originated a LARGE percentage of the rappers were political and gave truthful though not always positives messages. But then the culture changed, so the music changed. But the point is that black people accepted it. We no longer FIGHT against the condititions we are put in, instead we COMPLAIN, and that does absolutely nothing. Yes it is hard to change the culture, especially when people place blame on others without reflecting on their actions, but it can be done. That is why I think Cosby focused so hard on black parenting, because it is up to the future generations to enact the change.

Just think about both King and Malcolm X, though they placed blame on the institutions for the conditions of black people neither asked for a handout. Both felt that necessary change had to come through the people themselves.

Re: CHICO STATE COED – I agree with you.
When I was 10 years old I met Bill Cosby.
He was the biggest asshole I have ever met.
I was a big fan of the Fat Albert cartoon and was so happy to see him
until I asked to shake his hand.
He told me to get my hand away because he's not gonna shake it.
I was floored and tears welled up.
My older brother told him he was a rude person.
and Bill's response to us was Get the hell away.
Since that day I have hated his fucking guts.
    FUCK BILL COSBY.

    Re: I love Bill Cosby

"Honestly, it would be a good idea if Bill got a younger, fresh faced rapper to be on the album instead of him. He's right, hip hop is awful. It degrades women and glorifies violence, drug use, and illegal ways of getting money. Not to mention, it makes black people look like idiots to the rest of the world."

Agree 100%. And a black girl said that! Glad to see someone that has common sense.

Yes, rap is bad for blacks- anyone with common sense could see that.
But what do you make of the fact that it's primarily black people that rap? Would you say that's very intelligent? They're keeping black people in the gutter, which they make $$$- their albums being bought by these very people. Can you say clueless idiots?
Being a liberal has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

I have beeb reading this site for 2 years now and have never posted anything negative about perez. However I find that the last line of this post has pushed me beyond the limit. Bill Cosby has not said that rap was evil, but he has since the late 80's stated his belief that as a medium it has done next to nothing to improve the lives of its listeners. Maybe because I grew up in Philadelphia and have been a long time supporter of Cosby these comments struck a nerve. Even when I havent agreed with what Cosby has said I have always respected the way he not only supports and encourages the improvment of the poor innercity population, he puts his money and by far more important his time towards, education, ending violence, and finding something to give kids like me the hope that with hard work we can be better.
