Gwyneth's Confession

mx0087818__opt.jpg

Good for her!

Gwyneth Paltrow reveals in the May issue of Vogue that she battled post-partum depression after the birth of baby #2, Moses.

"I felt really out of my body. I felt really disconnected. I felt really down … I felt pessimistic,” Paltrow tells the mag.

She also didn't realize that she was suffering from the baby blues ’til after it was over.

Paltrow suspects her depression stemmed from scaling back on her usual pre-baby treatments like acupuncture.

See, mommas out there you aren't alone. It's a good thing that celebs like Gwynbon and Brooke Shields are shining a spotlight on the issue.

Get some help cause you can fight it, too!

In other Gwyneth news, her mom Blythe Danner is speaking out about those rumors claiming Paltrow's 4-year marriage to Coldplay lead man Chris Martin is on the rocks.

Danner says, “Good god, it's just so tragic that people have to make up stuff. I've never seen two happier parents — or people — so I don't get it.”

Don't try and OVERCOMPENSATE, mom. We've definitely seen happier parents!

    31

Good for her!!! It's about time public figures open up about issues in their life that affect them in the same way they affect us "normal" people. Post-partum depression is no laughing matter, it is a real dissorder that affects many new moms (BTW, HELLO….ARE YOU LISTENING TOM CRUISE!!!??!!??!!)

  32. mmmhhmm says – reply to this

    32

ha sounds like she hates her kid!

  33. Yup. says – reply to this

    33

I realized the same thing in hindsight. Fluctuating hormone levels along with expectations contribute to the post-partum business. Time and distance levelled it out for me, but I did the stiff upper lip thing and did not feel a need to medicate at the time; I was too busy, and too tired. If a person gets to a scary point and realizes it, a doctor should be involved right away to help.

    34

She looks like crap in this photo. Why are all these celebs getting post partum depression? It does happen, and is serious, but it isn't THAT common.

  35. mega says – reply to this

    35

"Baby Blues" doesn't = Post Partum depression (which is a clinical diagnoses) "feeling down" isn't depression. "out of touch with your body" isn't depression. She is a self-absorbed nit-wit.

    41

Gwyneth seems like a composed and normal girl, money and privilege aside, and she has opened up here with candor in order for others who read it to perhaps spot themselves and benefit, which is generous. Also, some couples do not hang on each other or live in each other's pockets, and thrive with an independent lifestyle. Some need the other close at all times to feel secure. Both ways are normal if they work for you. I don't see that her Mom is overcompensating here, P., and I agree with her Mom's necessarily cynical but realistic statement. I do admire both Blythe Danner and Gwyneth's professionalism, and also their commitment to putting their families first, as is their personal choice. To choose career over family opens the door to higher divorce rates; it's a personal choice, nevertheless.

  42. spade says – reply to this

    42

I call bullcrap. Postpartum depression is quite real and very, very serious so I don't lay disparagement on the specific affliction at all. But in this case, Gwyneth is just using it as an excuse for all of the hateful, arrogant things she said last year that seriously hurt her image. She thought that all of her fans would applaud her anti-American, anti-everything snotfest and instead, everyone that counted was actually offended and annoyed. She tries so hard to pretend she is above everyone else but the truth is that she is just another spoiled, uneducated, arrogant, poser who thinks she has us all fooled. I can't stand the girl and I will never, ever support her movies again. I haven't seen a Tom Cruise movie in 7 years and I don't miss him at all though before he sold his soul to scientology completely, he was one of my favorite movie makers. If I can go 7 years without seeing a Cruise movie and not even remotely miss it, I can SURE as heck skip Gwyneth's projects without batting an eye. She can shove it as far as I'm concerned.

Gwyneth is such a stupid twat!! Why hasn't she mentioned this before? Was it because she didn't have another crapper of a movie coming out and didn't need the publicity at the time? This old bag is washed up. Her glory days are OVER. Her attempts to stay in the media with her stupid remarks and transparent desparation is becoming quite pathetic.

Gwyneth needs to shut the fuck up. She is ALWAYS whining in the press about something making life seem soooo hard bitch you were fed the silver spoon from birth. You used your family and business connections to make it in hollywood. You didn't even deserve your Oscar or your movies. You try to sound so smart and superior in the press but you were a crappy student who had to use Michael Douglas to get into college where you failed there than you started using your dad to get acting jobs and your boyfreinds to stay in the press and become a star. But everytime she gives an interview she has to whine on and on about something and talk about how british are so much more civilised than americans and make everything about you.

She keeps that stupid same hair style because she thinks it makes her iconic. She said that she invented long hair and edveryone copies her. Bitch get over yourself.

  52. she didn't have postpartum depression! says – reply to this

    52

Bitch please Gwyenth has been whining the press for years about how she was depressed at this time. She used to say she was depressed in her 20s and her life was so hard because of Brad Pitt and then she said she was depressed when she turned 30. She is ALWAYS whining in the press about herself spoiled bitch. She didn't ahve any post partum depression it's just her being spoiled bratty whiny bitch again!

LET ME BE SPECIFIC FOR ALL OF YOU FUCKING SLOW-ASS MEN OUT THEIR…CHANGE MORE DIAPERS, RELATE TO YOUR CHILD, BATH YOUR CHILD, WIPE THEIR ASSES, AND DO SOME FUCKING HOUSE WORK, WHILE YOU ARE AT IT…STOP THINKING YOUR CAREER COMES FIRST. FUCK THIS "WOMENS WORK" SHIT…SLAVERY ENDED A LONG TIME AGO…STOP HIRING POOR WOMEN OR EXPECTING YOUR WIVES TO "RUN THE HOUSEHOLD" AND DO ALL OF THE EMOTIONAL RELATING AND SHIT-WORK CLEANING! Hey Perez,
I think you are great but I need to make sure you know that there is a difference between the Baby Blues and PPD. Nearly 80% of new moms get the baby blues but PPD affects about 40-50% of new moms.
Baby blues do go away on their own after about 2 weeks but with PPD medical attention is needed!
I agree with you that Gwyneth and Brooke Shields arew doing a great jon on shedding light on this still taboo subject!

Good for them to talk about it!! I suffered a lot from it after my son was born. I would sleep all day and night, and really did'nt feel good. Everything was sooo dark around me. It's really really hard going through this, especially when it's suposed to be something great giving birth. Wayy to many moms go trough this and there is so much to do about it. Awareness is really the key.

    61

Sorry Blythe, but there's no way such self-important blowhards are full of happy, happy, joy, joy. What's tragic is that Chris Martin's bandmates suffer because no one wants to buy a Coldplay CD knowing what dicks Chris and Gwyneth are.

  62. cthoms says – reply to this

    62

Sounds like she had baby blues, not PPD. If she had PPD, she would have most definitely realized it because it lasts a lot longer. Baby blues are due to severe drops in progesterone and estrogen immediately after birth, and the baby blues are a perfectly natural occurrence. It's great that postpartum depression is getting the press it needs, but portraying it accurately is even more important. Equating the baby blues with PPD will only scare women. Instead we should be teaching them how to look for the signs of PPD and how to determine when the baby blues have dragged on for too long.

i LOVE robert downey jr, LOVE jeff bridges but i'll NEVER EVER go see a movie with gwyneth paltrow in it, so i'm skipping ironman. if studio exes are so savvy, why do they keep casting actors and actresses that the public finds repulsive?

  64. momma says – reply to this

    64

I denfinately had PPD and also didnt realize till after. PPD sucks because you are not at your best when you want to be (and need to be). Instead of feeling light and great your feel like you are in a fog.
    PPD is a bummer.

    77

Yeah…she's just depressed ’cause she thought she was going to marry herself some European royalty & become a princess, countess or lady. All those trophies from her earlier years just didn't measure up. She's a fraud. She just doesn't have the charisma or beauty to rise to such levels. Not to mention her gene pool. Look at her brother. She really looks like that w/out all the hair bleach, straightening, make up & photoshop. She's a so-so looking woman who cannot accept the fact that she is because her parents, people in PR & mag writers said such glorious things about her. She's not a Grace Kelly, Gene Tierney, Liz Taylor or Vivian Leigh. Her problem is that people told her she was so. I think she is kind of sad.
