Gwyneth's Confession

Good for her!

Gwyneth Paltrow reveals in the May issue of Vogue that she battled post-partum depression after the birth of baby #2, Moses.

"I felt really out of my body. I felt really disconnected. I felt really down … I felt pessimistic,” Paltrow tells the mag.

She also didn't realize that she was suffering from the baby blues ’til after it was over.

Paltrow suspects her depression stemmed from scaling back on her usual pre-baby treatments like acupuncture.

See, mommas out there you aren't alone. It's a good thing that celebs like Gwynbon and Brooke Shields are shining a spotlight on the issue.

Get some help cause you can fight it, too!

In other Gwyneth news, her mom Blythe Danner is speaking out about those rumors claiming Paltrow's 4-year marriage to Coldplay lead man Chris Martin is on the rocks.

Danner says, “Good god, it's just so tragic that people have to make up stuff. I've never seen two happier parents — or people — so I don't get it.”

Don't try and OVERCOMPENSATE, mom. We've definitely seen happier parents!

Well, the two of them can talk about depression all they want, but most americans don't even have insurance coverage or the ability to PAY for therapy….sooooo….sorry…but americans like myself can relate to the depression but not to the ability to do something about it.

I normally say stupid thing oon this site, but PPD is a serious thing. Many woman will not seek out help for PPD due to social stimgas. Women: if you suffer from PDD, you are not alone!

Good for her!!! It's about time public figures open up about issues in their life that affect them in the same way they affect us "normal" people. Post-partum depression is no laughing matter, it is a real dissorder that affects many new moms (BTW, HELLO….ARE YOU LISTENING TOM CRUISE!!!??!!??!!)

ha sounds like she hates her kid!

  33. Yup. says – reply to this

    33

I realized the same thing in hindsight. Fluctuating hormone levels along with expectations contribute to the post-partum business. Time and distance levelled it out for me, but I did the stiff upper lip thing and did not feel a need to medicate at the time; I was too busy, and too tired. If a person gets to a scary point and realizes it, a doctor should be involved right away to help.

    34

She looks like crap in this photo. Why are all these celebs getting post partum depression? It does happen, and is serious, but it isn't THAT common.

  35. mega says – reply to this

    35

"Baby Blues" doesn't = Post Partum depression (which is a clinical diagnoses) "feeling down" isn't depression. "out of touch with your body" isn't depression. She is a self-absorbed nit-wit.

think about how many women have to had post partum depression a long time ago and they were thought to be crazy and locked away. but i still think she is nearing a divorce. just my hunch.

Gwyneth seems like a composed and normal girl, money and privilege aside, and she has opened up here with candor in order for others who read it to perhaps spot themselves and benefit, which is generous. Also, some couples do not hang on each other or live in each other's pockets, and thrive with an independent lifestyle. Some need the other close at all times to feel secure. Both ways are normal if they work for you. I don't see that her Mom is overcompensating here, P., and I agree with her Mom's necessarily cynical but realistic statement. I do admire both Blythe Danner and Gwyneth's professionalism, and also their commitment to putting their families first, as is their personal choice. To choose career over family opens the door to higher divorce rates; it's a personal choice, nevertheless.

  42. spade says – reply to this

    42

I call bullcrap. Postpartum depression is quite real and very, very serious so I don't lay disparagement on the specific affliction at all. But in this case, Gwyneth is just using it as an excuse for all of the hateful, arrogant things she said last year that seriously hurt her image. She thought that all of her fans would applaud her anti-American, anti-everything snotfest and instead, everyone that counted was actually offended and annoyed. She tries so hard to pretend she is above everyone else but the truth is that she is just another spoiled, uneducated, arrogant, poser who thinks she has us all fooled. I can't stand the girl and I will never, ever support her movies again. I haven't seen a Tom Cruise movie in 7 years and I don't miss him at all though before he sold his soul to scientology completely, he was one of my favorite movie makers. If I can go 7 years without seeing a Cruise movie and not even remotely miss it, I can SURE as heck skip Gwyneth's projects without batting an eye. She can shove it as far as I'm concerned.
