my mom just recently died of lung cancer. she had stopped smoking over 25 years earlier and even then only smoked for ONE YEAR. the rate of women that are non-smokers being diagnosed has been doing up by a ton over the past 10 years. Without any funding for research, this will continue to be a deadly disease!

I'll give you a cure for most lung cancers. Quit smoking.

Smoking is icky and makes your lungs sticky.

Hey, Perez, these posts for different charities might get more donations if you backed up the support by doubling what is donated through your site. Put your money where your mouth is.

Ok people! Smoking is NOT the only way you end up with Lung Cancer. My son was almost 2 when he was diagnosed with a rare form of Lung cancer and he just passed away at the age of 9 from it.

My dad died 7 months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. He NEVER smoked. There are lots of people like him. A decrease in smoking would help tremendously BUT we still need funding regardless.

first of all lung cancer is one of the leading cause of death in america. i think it's really great that people are actually trying to do something about it now. for those of you who all say quit smoking, read a newspaper or something because you can get lung cancer without being a smoker.

my grandmother died of lung cancer 2 years ago and my mother and i have been apart of many organizations.

If anyone lives in the NYC area, there is an annual Lung Cancer Walk. My mother is on the committee for it, so if anyone is interested in walking/running, feel free to e-mail me at lsanz@mail.uri.edu and I can give you more information on it.

The best way to fight lung cancer is to quit smoking. I quit, and every single time I breathe, it feels sooooooooo good now. Ahhhhhh.

For others who have lost loved ones from lung cancer that never smoked: Yes, it happens, and it's tragic. But the #1 cause of lung cancer, by a whopping %87, is smoking. If people would not smoke, the lung cancer rate would be significantly diminished.

      Re: Quit Big Tobacco
I am a 38 year old single mother of 2 who does not smoke. Do you really want to stand in judgement while I fight for my life? It is distressing to have a disease that makes people assume you have done something to deserve it. It is a rare occasion that I can state my diagnosis without being asked if I was a smoker. It is unkind and cruel and has brought my daughter to tears on more than one occasion. Education and research is key to a solution. fingerpointing and "cute" comments are not.

      Re: Get Your Poo On
You are ignorant and your statistics are wrong. There has been a large increase in people who NEVER smoked being diagnosed with lung cancer.

i don,t think charities look for a cure drug co,s don,y want cures my illness requires 700 dollars a month in drugs just to stay alive, cancer charities spend less than 2 percent of the money you give them on prevention,a lot of diseases are preventable, the guys at the top of the charity are livin high on the hog tanks to your donations, think before you give thank you

    36. dying to live says – reply to this

      36

i,m not saying don,t donate but it pisses me off when some charities take in millions and 50 to 60 percent of that money goes to the lifestyle of the charities exutives not repeat not you the sick and the poor,

For all of you who wrote about quitting smoking, my dad had to get half of his lung removed this year from lung cancer and he has never touched a cigarette in his life, so maybe you should get educated before you make dumb ass comments..thanks! (love you perez!!!!!)

It's not fair to rag on people for saying "quit smoking." 13% of lung cancers are non-smoking individuals. That's not a high percentage. No one here is saying that ONLY smoking causes lung cancer. What people are saying is that smoking is the main cause, and it would make a HUGE difference if people didn't do it. Do you want change or not?
      @
To condemn someone for stating the truth is taking a huge step backwards, from a medical point of view. I am truly sympathetic for those who have fought this horrible disease, whether they smoked or not. NO ONE IS DENYING THE ABSOLUTE TRAGEDY OF THIS DISEASE. Of course, there are victims who did nothing to contribute to the possibility of acquiring this terrible disease. But that does not change the facts.

I was a lucky kid who had an awesome dad. He died from cancer when I was nineteen. The worst part ? Coming home from high school for three years and having to see him in a hospital bed in our living room. You see back then in the early seventies all they did was give dying people drugs. I'm still messed up from losing him. LONG STORY SHORT DON'T SMOKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You may really hurt the ones you love quite by accident when you die way too young.
