Cardiovascular diseases and stroke are among the leading causes of death in America (and the world).
Let's do our part to help prevent that!

FIRST!
way to go perez! thanks for putting this out there. as someone in physical therapy i deal w/ many of these pts. everyday. what people do not realize about heart disease is it can happen to anyone so we all need to do our part and prevent it from happening to us and help those who already have it.
Who gives a shit?
i have a cardiovascular heart diasease called Marfanes Syndrome so WAY TO GO PEREZ!!!!! woo hoo!
Stop asking for us to donate to a worthy cause!!!!!!
It's gonna make me stop coming to your site! I gave money to Idols Give Back and I give money when I go to church.
Seriously! If you only did it once in a while it would be more effective.
I have this disease and applaud you, Perez, for featuring this charity on your blog
I knew nothing of the disease until I ended up in the hospital and after 5 surgeries in less than 8 months I am well aware of the severity and dangers of this disease. Please please please people educatate yourselves and contribute to help the ones who are currently suffering
perez, i fully support your charity donation initiatives, but i'm afraid people are starting to get complacent because they appear so frequently on your page. perhaps spread it out a little and people will be more likely to spread the love… and money… to these worthwhile causes.
This is the disease most likely to take Pudgy Perez out! (unless mental illness arrives in Perezes brain first).
thanks for putting the word out on this, I suffer myself from congestive heart failure, and know what the pain is like from day to day. Harder to keep healthier and exercise when the ankles are swollen from fluid retention, due to the heart not beating the fluids through.
Be patient with those who have this, as they must go slower, and tire more easily..it's hard to get older, when I used to do so much..
AHH!! I don't want my heart to look like that!!
I think it's great that Perez supports many causes. It increases awareness of a cause and lets people decide for themselves if they WANT to donate and to which charity they prefer. Personally, I like the options and I have learned about things that I was previously in the dark about.
People don't have to click on every link.

IT?????????????????
;)
While I think it's fantastic that someone with a huge influence is using it in a good way, be aware that the overwhelming majority of cardiovascular diseases and strokes are caused by a bad diet and smoking. I don't mean to stereotype but if so many Americans weren't fat as fuck, we wouldn't need to help "the american heart". After all would you link to a charity for emphysema, knowing that 99% of emphysema cases are self-inflicted by smoking????
AMERICANS ARE SO FAT, I M NOT SUPRISED HEART DISEASE IS KILLING YOU GUYS. EVERY TIME I GO TO THE STATES, I AM SHOCKED AT ALL THE OBESE PEOPLE. EAT RIGHT AND U DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HEARD DISEASE
from a Canadian living in BC, the lowest overweight percentage of people live in BC-LEARN SOMETHING FROM US
I would be more willing to donate to things if I felt people actually SERIOUSLY cared about their own fate. America is one of the fattest nations in the world. When people start taking care of themselves, I'll be more willing to help.
This isn't a disease that was unavoidable, like a thyroid problem. MOST people bring it upon themselves.
I'm so sick of people asking me for help. Start helping yourselves first!
The heart becomes enlarged from having to provide oxygen to cells (from red blood cells.) The more weight one gains, the more difficult job the heart has to perform this awesome task. So, instead of donating to the cause, just educate yourself and your loved ones, friends, and strangers alike, to eat wisely. One will have actual withdrawal symptoms from cutting out carbs and eating more fiber, but after about three weeks, the agony will be gone, and so will some of the fat. Prevent the problem instead of treating the symptom.
NOW THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so glad I live in Italy. The last time I was stateside I was in shock at the number of elephant butts over there. It's as if they don't even care. Give me Rome any day with size 2 jeans. Ciao, Fabricio
Perez,
I work for the AHA and absolutely love that you have looked into it. We have so many programs that help people…So many people suffer from heart disease and stroke, and Latinos have a larger chance of suffering from these diseases simply by being Latinos ( it is a genetic factor). Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association!
What did you donate Perez you fat fuck? Your putting all these "Donate to a worthwhile causes" on your page, Im wondering what your fat ass is donating. Probably not a fucking dime. You created this site to rip into the asses of all those egomaniac Hollywood "stars" , lets keep it that way. Quit trying to be a savior, we all know your a starfucker!
Cardiovascular diseases are the lead cause of death in the US cause you guys are all overweight!
Why would anyone want to donate to that?
How is donating $ going to prevent obesity?
haha perez you are so retarded
HAHA
Perez = Fag Oprah Wannabe
whats wrong fuckface? didnt like my comments so you took them down? Fuck you fucker
Educate yourself people!!!
this is why it is important for these issues to be raised.
This disease is also hereditary. I am a 34 year old 115 lb. vegetarian who doesnt smoke. I was just unlucky enough to inherit the disease. I've spent my entire life eating right and taking care of my body. Being a fat american smoker is not the only cause of this disease.
if it isn't genetic. Then EAT HEALTHY QUIT SMOKING AND EXERCISE. Change lifestyle. And donate to Cancer or something important
Thanks for all the info on all the worthwhile causes out there. I'm sure your readers will pick and choose the one(s) for them.
Heart Disease does not just affect those who bring obesity on themselves. I am young, fit, and have had high blood pressure and cholesterol since I was 19 (9 years now) thanks to my wonderful family history.
So all you bitches who think that I'm just some fat lazy pig, whatevs!
My dh has an enlarged heart and high blood pressure at 29 from unknown causes since his teens. Thanks for highlighting this charity!!
Perez, blow it out your ass. Like we need you to tell us what charities to support. Your ego is getting a bit big for your britches (if that's possible).
Perez, you continue to be awesome.
Love you!
Cyndi
THE BEST THING YOU COULD EVER DO FOR YOUR HEALTH WOULD BE TO STOP EATING MEAT, ESPECIALLY BEEF!
BEEF, IT'S WHAT'S ROTTING IN YOUR FUCKING COLON!
my dad passed away 2 weeks ago due to a infection in his heart, he was 49 and never sick a day of his life, he spent the last 6 weeks of his life unable to walk as a result of a stroke. i miss him so much…
its great that the website is doing so well but its even greater that you're using the sight to promote something that is infinitely more important when put in perspective.
THIS WEBSITE IS TURNING INTO THE NEW BRITNEY SPEARS. PEREZ THINKS HE IS OPRAH AND IS TRYING TO CREATE AN ANGEL NETWORK BUT AT THE SAME TIME WRITES AS MUCH CUNTY SHIT AS HE CAN ABOUT PEOPLE WHO DON'T SUCK HIS ASS. IT CRACKS ME UP TO COME HEAR AND READ HOW IMPORTANT HE THINKS HIMSELF TO BE!
Perez, thanks so much for putting this on your blog!
I come from a small town and everyone knows everyone.
So as you could imagine, it really hit hard when a boy in my school died from an enlarged heart. They were not aware of this disease and it caused heart failure. No one in my school could even talk about it without crying.
We have tried many fundraisers for this cause and i am happy to see someone else support this terrible disease also. Thanks again.
*** R I P**
dude i've had it since i was a child but i dont want or need you to try and help go get your speak probelm fixed dude
Thank you, Perez, for putting this on your page.. My hubbie has congestive heart failure, and is looking at the possibility of a transplant down the road. Any research for this cause will only help heart patients in the future!
Thanks Perez for putting this on your site.
I come from a very small town where everyone knows everyone.
So, as you can imagine, it really hit hard when a teenager in town died from an enlarged heart. It was very tough for kids at school because everyone ( including teachers) were crying all the time.
I just wanted to say everyone has to stop being mad over these donate to a worthy cause section of the blog.
Maybe just because you weren't personally affected by this doesn't mean that other people weren't. It will never be the same without this kid.
Also, everyone is saying this disease is for "fat asses" and other mean comments.
The person i knew was not heavy by ANY means.
This person was an athlete, played many sports, and was on the top of their class.
It was a natural birth defect to this person.
SO thanks Perez for taking the time out to help poeple like this.
**** R I P**********
instead of donating money, everyone needs to get their asses off of the couch and stop eating like whales. thats the only way to prevent heart disease. duh.
Why do you keep hawking these shitty charities?
Thanks so much Perez! I applaud your enthusiasm to support our cause (I work for the AHA).
And yes, approximately 80% of heart disease is caused by poor diet and exercise, but, the other 20% is hereditary or not initiated by improper health habits. And, the AHA reaches out above and beyond communicating health and wellness to those that "don't bring it on themselves."
Congenital Heart Defetcs (which have no specific reason for happening) kills more babies in thier first year of life over any other disease. Do you think these babies brought on thier defects themselves?
I just met a woman the other day whose husband died at 35 of heart disease and was in perfect shape, didn't smoke and didn't have high blood pressure. Do you think he wanted to die at 35 and leave his wife and two kids behind?
Furthermore, the AHA strives to work with hospitals to improve the guidelines after patients suffer a heart attack or stroke so they receive the best care possible. We strive to ensure that people who suffer strokes in rural or areas that may not have a full time doctor that specializes in stroke to promptly receive care.
The AHA also created CPR, initiated the incorporation of AED's in airports, schools, and other public places.
So to all of you "haters" out there, comment as you wish for we live in the US and free speech is our right.
But just know that we reach beyond — far beyond those that need a lifestyle change.
Anti-oxidants keep plaque from forming on artery walls and this plaque is what causes most strokes and heart disease. Cholesterol means almost nothing because if it never turns to plaque it's never is an issue. Chelation therapy helps to break down this plaque along with removing heavy metals from your system including mercury and aluminum. Think autism. Don't support this group Perez asks you to support. They are all about money and power. All American Heart Association is concerned about is helping to selling you pills and surgery and all about keeping American's in the dark about nutrition which can easily prevent both of strokes and heart disease. Where's the God damn outrage?
Life-threatening bypass surgeries and stents are given routinely by doctors because the doctors know with just one surgery they can buy a new sports car. These doctors typically scare their patients into getting these surgeries, which in most cases is completely unnecessary and always dangerous. Nutrition, specific supplements and exercise are the key to reversing heart disease and preventing stroke. Think of it this way.. if you have plaque build-up near your heart, it' guaranteed that you have plaque all over your body. So paying to get one or two blockages cleared for $50,000 will do nothing but risk your life because it will come back and it still exists all over your body. And if your thinking cholesterol drugs, just look at the side effects of those things. Don't risk you life. Don't be a lemming like many still are. Do it safe. Do it through nutrition, supplements and exercise.
my best friend died of an undetected enlarged heart when she was 16. this is a very good cause.
Perez - Thank you so much for supporting the American Heart Association. I actually work them here in Los Angeles. You are doing a great thing.
Hey Perez, I am a second year medical student and I check up on you between lectures every day. I want to tell you how INCREDIBLE it is that you include material like this on your page - everyone needs to know about it and take responsibility for their OWN health because cardiovascular disease is largely treatable, if not always preventable! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
you're awsome Perez for posting this!
its great you're giving attention to a serious health problem.
For those of you who talk sh*t about heart disease like it's all about cholesterol, dieting and people being too fat, you may be aware that there are a TON of other heart disease ailments that are genetic or due to things we cannot control. I suffer from one of them and it has nothing to do with what I did or do or do not do. Please don't forget about that. The AHA helps many people.
Set the example for us perez, hit the treadmill, hit the weights, clean out
your kitchen!
just for all the haters of fat and blaming it on America out there…my 40-year-old husband had a massive heart attack on March 6. He's not overweight, he does physical labour for a job, and he's in good shape. You know what? He smoked. That alone was enough to do him in.
thank god he came back, and both of us have a 2nd shot to be together. I am the luckiest woman in the world. EVER.
love the Canadiana, Perez…from T.O.
Re: Unneccesary and Life Threatening Surgeries –
I'm not from the US, but damn, if my husband did not get a stent precisely when he needed it, he'd be dead.
I don't know what the practice is in the US, but yeah if they're handing out stents on non-urgent cases, then yes there are other avenues to explore before extreme surgery and a drug regimen for life. Like Dean Ornish's regimen - it works, I'm seeing it now.
I just know we were lucky enough to get what he needed, when he needed it.
you rail against smokers but heart disease stroke diabetes high bp sweating too much and smelling come from too many fat burgers perez, look in the mirror. Contribute nothing fu! Put a lock on your fridge fat pigs and have some self control. So sad some people need a band on their stomachs because they can't stop themselves. It is and will be the disease of the future. Many smokers will light one up on your grave oinky!
its fitting you are supporting cardiovascular disease. over weight people die daily of heart problems.
My father died from congestive heart failure in September. His was caused by a virus that entered the lining of his heart. It is very important to live a healthy lifestyle, and take care of your heart. If you are sick, GO TO THE DOCTOR!! It was too late for my dad, he was diagnosed in 04 and died last year. This IS a worthy cause.
My father died this week of congestive heart failure. I'm a fan of yours -Perez and it means so much that you have this on your site. Thanks!
My grandfather had a stroke thanks to this so yes I will donate!
*Hugs for Perez!*
save your money, use that money to buy HEALTHY FOODS (not the cheap junk at mcd's), make sure you have health insurance and change your diet/lifestyle.
Oh, Perez the dedicated do-gooder now, is it! All I really see is Perez the vindictive hateful queen. Nice try, hypocrite!!
great cause, perez, but i'm also amused that you said "stroke"! hehhehmhehheh!!
Wake up! Cardiovascular diseases and stroke are not the main causes of death, it is mainly sorry ass diet full of fats, smoking, and lack of exercise which result in above mentioned diseases. Take care of yourselves by treating yourself healthily and with respect and don´t expect that others pay for your treatment if you don´t give a shit about yourself in the first place.
What's happened Perez? I used to read this blog because it was funny and bitchy - you've lost it - blog version of jumping the shark. If I want to be preached at, I will watch the christian chanel.
In 4 hours I will be running the Boston Marathon for Tedy Bruschi's team for the American Stroke Association. After having open heart surgery almost 2 years ago, this cause is very near to myheart.
Thanks for bringing the awareness to the organization.
The people saying "STOP EATING FATASS" etc are probably morbidly obese and taking out their frusteration by pretending they're not and telling other people to do what you cant… which is stop eating. Grow up. Just because somebody isn't a size 2, it's no reason to attack and put down a worthwhile cause. Pick up a book and learn something once in a while. Obese people are not the only people with heart problems. If somebody's fat and you don't like it, get over it. It's none of your business anyway. So for all the arrogant "geniuses" that think only obese people suffere from heart problems, please do yourself a favor, go read a book.
Thanks for adding. I sufffered from severe heart failure after having my twin girls. I was a healthy 31 year old women with a very healthy heart and pregnancy just was too much for my heart to endure. I am healthy… no smoking, no drinking and my weight is 104 lbs ( I'm 5'4). A perfect example of someone who isn't a "canidate" for heart disease. It can happen to anyone…LIVE A HEART HEALTY LIVE AND HELP OTHERS TOO!!!!
YAY!! Thank you perez for posting about heart disease. It is NOT Just for old people. I work for AHA and see it every day. Thank you for raising awareness on this disease. Did you know that April 16th was National Walk at Work Day? It was a day to get up and WALK and start today to take care of yoursefl. I am a healthy, skinny, in shape girl and have been on blood pressure medication since I was 21. It affects everyone. Thanks for raising awareness!!
My dad (age 53) was just last week diagnosed with enlarged heart.. Good Cause P !
want to know the number one way to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke!? dont eat animal products, duh! meat, dairy and eggs are so high in saturated fat in cholesterol, they are also being blamed for many kinds of cancer. and factory farms (raising animals for human consumption) are the number one reason for global warming. do your research people!
I work for a leading health government agency, and heart disease is the NUMBER ONE cause of death in the United States.
Thank you for putting this on your site! I e-maile dyou about it, not sure if you ever got it…but thanks.
Number one way to prevent cancer, heart disease, and stroke is by going vegan. Why not try advocating that?
RIP Chynna Zmolik, 16 years young.
Re: robo –
You wanker!!!
Veganism isn't the answer. Red meat is full of iron which is good for the heamoglobin in your blood which carries the oxygen around your body (and too your heart). Without the iron red meat provides the body has to find it somewhere else or suffer with out it.
And iron tablets aren't that good for you as the liver cannot handle the concerntrated doses over a prolonged peroid of time.
