      The NEA isn't all it is cracked up to be, however I do understand that it is the government . Only if you do folk art and traditional things will you really benefit. Individual artists can't apply for grants, you need to belong to something like a museum. Today, it is a very different program from what it started as. The Kennedy's had it right, artists should be praised for their talents. However the NEA sure has some guidelines for what are is…. If you've learned anything about post modernism and Robert Mapplethorpe it won't see so great. They are definitive in what they call art. Worthy cause done the wrong way.

      Perez, why don't you tell everyone how their money will be used. You don't get to pick and choose who receives the $'s. Remember Piss Christ? That's where the crucifix was dunked in a vat of urine and it was called "art". Donate to something else besides this one please!

      Hey guys, the National Endowment for the Arts is a very important organization. I'm a professional symphony musician, and the NEA helps keep us in business. Programs that we play for schoolchildren are partially funded by the NEA. Learning music and taking music lessons is proven to help kids to do better in school, stay out of trouble, and lead more successful lives.

      I worked for the NEA's Poetry Out Loud program(that's where the pic Perez posted is from…that girl was amaaaazing!) I agree that it is the more traditional arts that benefit, but anything that brings artists into schools is a good thing and deserves our support.

      Perez, seriously, the National Endowment for the Arts? What a joke. I would never donate a penny to them. Do some research into what you're asking us to give money to.

      And another thing, just because you've hit the jackpot doesn't mean the rest of us have. With gas and food prices going through the roof, most of your readers aren't going to have extra money just lying around to give to crackpot organizations like the National Endowment for the Arts.

      Thank you for the causes on your site. The National Endowment for Arts is something that I fully support as someone who has been involved in theatre for a number of years.

      nea funds the NFAA (national foundation for advancements in the arts) which gave me a huge grant and paid for alot of my art school education. donate. the funding gets cut more and more every day.
