Katie Couric just can't catch a break.
Evening network news ratings for the week of April 14th have just been released and Katie's ratings really really sucked.
In fact, last week's numbers sank to a record ratings low for Katie and the CBS evening news team.
Katie's CBS broadcast averaged 5.39 million viewers for the week.
NBC's Brian Williams avereaged 8.1 million viewers and Charles Gibson at ABC, 7.51 million.
On April 18th, CBS president Leslie Moonves made an appearance at a CBS evening news staff meeting and talked about how 'proud' he was of Couric and that she would be the network’s flagship anchor for a long time to come.
Let's see if he lives up to his words should ratings for Katie get worse! The way things are going for Couric, there's only one place left to go: even lower!

Boo hoo- how could something like that POSSIBLY happen to a former UVA cheerleader who spent years INSULTING people on a morning show! Her coverage of the olympics in Italy was abysmal- she even insulted the local gelato guy by asking if she'd get SICK from his gelato. Nice Ugly American behavior on her part. She is rude and haughty. Hope she never comes back. After the last insult on the Today show, I don't watch her ever.
She can't catch a break?!? Get Real. Katie Couric has made millions in annual salaries over the years. She's just finer than fine, no matte what turn her 'career' takes. She always reinvents herself as she reaches different stages in her life. When these things happen, another scenario unfolds, and you usually prefer the new life eventually, as a change is as good as a rest.

The CBS news division is what is terrible, not Katie. I love Katie, however I can not watch her because of how terrible the news at CBS is.

I like her broadcast just fine. Ratings are just a reflection of a moment in time. They go up, they go down. No one makes a big deal of it when a guy has a ratings slump. Keep her on.
She is terrible and has been riding on the sympathy of her dead husband for years…Diane Sawyer is effin badass and deserves much more than Katie ever could hope to have.

I LOVE Brian Williams. He is such a pleasure to watch. My husband and I watch him every night. Never liked Katie. Too much of a cupie doll for the roll. Now, who is really sharp is Lester Holt. He would make a fantastic replacement for Katie. Lester is sharp as hell. BTW I am anglican, but I think Lester Hall is one of the most well spoken, superficially unbiased joursalist I have seen in a long time. Please promote Lester, he is a class act.

Despite Katie, there is great reporting still on the CBS Evening News. Armen Kataen is first rate. He's the only one that took on the TV evangelest scandal (which right wing news outfits like Drudge and Fox don't report about), the formaldehyde in FEMA trailors, Vet suicides, etc. . Also, Lara Logan from Iraq is first rate, as is Bob Schieffer. So it's worth it to watch them, and mute Katie when she goes on and on.

As much as I don't like Katie, people should know that Elizabeth Vargas, when she was the anchor at ABC World News tonight, also lost over a million viewers. They were lucky to be able to pull her when she said she wanted maternity leave. Notice how they never brought her back. Barbara Walters and Connie Chung also couldn't make the evening news work. It's an old man's time slot. Even if a good female journalist like Christiane Amanpour were to be the anchor, they would say she's too unattractive, etc.
