So-called 'magician and endurance artist' David Blaine is up to his antics again!

He's going to try to break the world record for 'holding one's breath under water' LIVE on the Oprah Winfrey show next Wednesday, April 30th.

We'd bet money he's gonna fail!

This is just a nice, big ratings stunt.

The current world record for holding your breath under water is 16 minutes and 14 seconds.

That's a hell of a long time!

      There is something that "isn't right" about everything David Blain does. It may be the fact that he has managed to live through many death defying feats and in all probability things are going to go wrong. Some of Davids performances are based in probability. It is like watching a trainwreck in slow motion. The audiences are starting look like ambulance chasers.
      I think David should call it a day. He has plenty of life left to live and am sure he can contribute on many levels.

      That time is only for holding your breath after inhaling pure oxygen. He tried to defeat the record for holding your breath after breathing normal air, but didn't succeed.

      You have to breathe 100% oxygen for like half an hour before you attempt the record. "Normal" air is about 78% nitrogen and only about 21% oxygen.

      Aww come on David Blaine is cool Perez! He works in the vein of old-school illusions and slight of hand tricks….so what if he does some fairly outlandish stuff in full view of the mainstream. Go back in time and think about Houdini who used to entertain the masses buy tightrope walking across Broadway in NYC, break in and out of any jail in the country, submerge himself chained, upside down and underwater - for fun!
      Sure, what Blaine is doing isn't neccesarily * NEW * - but it's fun! It's entertainment, it's intriguing! You can't always figure him out (those card tricks!, the levitation!) but his antics sure are fun to watch.

      I'm with bobbobson on this one. Also, to whoever said that this isn't magic…of course it isn't. This is an endurance stunt. His illusions and his stunts are two different things. Also, unlike Criss Angel and Blaine's own illusions, the stunts are real and pose real danger and that's why people choose to see them and root for him or, in the case of the majority of Perez's readers, follow exactly what Perez says and immediately dub him a moron.

      most of you people are idiots. as one person said, he has already been within 5 seconds and will shatter the record. pick up the new york times sometime, it was in the science section. and this is for a good cause. he has learned to control his body way beyond houdini in that he can slow his body down to minimize its need to breath and be impacted by CO2, which is the main inhibitor to holding your breath. the medical implications of being able to do what he can do are significant and are helping advance techniques that someday may save your worthless lives. david blaine has made his skills available to the medical community to study and research. maybe you brain deads out here can do the same with your worthless, atrophied brains.

      I have David BLain and Cris Angel mixed up. I will say that I think that the two of them need to move on.
