That's completely ridiculous. Robert Dinero and Pacino are icons. What does some LA reporter douche bag know? These guys have to pay bills like everyone else.

"Al Pacino and Robert Deniro have fucked up their careers…". Seriously? I wish they'd publicly give you a piece of their mind but they are SO ACCOMPLISHED they don't have time for your sorry fat ass. Look in the mirror, think about your 'Career' and then say that again. You're a sad excuse for a human being. That bear Rocky is worth more than you, sad sack.

I'm sorry but some of you need to take Pacino's dick out of your mouth and be real. The man is a fucking JOKE he WAS brilliant fucking BRILLIANT! I just watched Carlito's Way the other day and Viggo Mortensen had a better accent than Pacino. Seriously he was amazing but that was a loooooooooooooooong time ago. Now try to watch a movie without him screaming and being Pacino. He is a caricature of his former self. And yet I wait for him to rise from the ashes of the shit he has allowed himself to be in and find a project that will put him back where he deserves to be: On Top.

I love De Niro and Pacino. Who the heck cares what some reporter review says. I don't. I will see their movies because they're ICONS. And past their prime???? IN ACTING???? They can act; so let them act. The only thing is that if a 78 year old is paired up with a 20 year old, well, that's RIDICULOUS. but I LOVED MEET THE FOCKERS!!!!

    33

I dunno…I saw the trailer and a teaser for Righteous Kill and it looked pretty dope to me. I'm going to see it anyway just because those two together, even if they're old, are still hotter than Nicholson and Freeman for sure.

im glad to read that most people believe that the person that wrote the article has an opinion that is quite the contrary. i haven't seen many films in the last year or so that are worth seeing at the box office anyway. there is so much shit being put out there, that actors like de niro and pacino are too good to take a part of… the few movies that did impress me did not fit the roles they would be suited for anyway…. perhaps if we started making worthwhile movies, actors like de niro and pacino would be able to show their talent once again….dont blame the actor- blame the lame movie scripts they're coming out with!!

  35. elis says – reply to this

    35

ok, maybe they should become like clint eastwood and produce and direct films so that they can star in them… but then again they're actors- not directors !!no offense to clint, he was pretty good, but he wasnt as superior as these two guys!!!! he is a fantastic director- in fact he shines more now as a director than actor!
the person that wrote the article is probably young and unwise, and watch movies that have young, beautiful actors in them, with little talent and probably a short career. this person doesnt know much- it's obvious!
i agree with the statement made that these two, fine actors wont and wouldnt need to rebuttle these assumptions about them- they're past it!!! they must be laughing somewhere!! because let's all face it… Hollywood has become a joke!!! Hollywood was " true Hollywood" when they were at their peak!!!
my guess is they're bored of waiting for something good to come along…so they say F-it!!! i guess i'll do this film until something "good" opens up !! they're not desperate- they're bored !!! they know who they are, they know their worth, they dont need to impress the morons out there… their old fans will remain fans!!!! and…. they are !!!!!

  36. lee says – reply to this

    36

Well I have to read the article but DeNiro has hardly "fucked Up" his career - in fact he developed the Tribeca area including the Tribeca film festival and managed to steal even small roles in films away from the leads (Angel Heart) and let us not forget he has just battled cancer - I love all these actors and obviously they are all extremely successful - Who knew the actor I loved in spaghetti westerns and as Dirty Harry would turn out to be such a phenomenal director - Jack is enjoyable but I didn't love "the Bucket List" but can anyone do a better job in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or The Shining and Pacino's latest looks lame but Say Hello to my little friend, he is Scarface and Michael Corleone - they have all enjoyed great highs and some lows but is there anyone in the civilized world that doesn't know Robert DeNiro, Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson - I doubt it - SUCCESS!!!!!! Everyone of them…..

    37

I agree about Pacino. His stuff has sucked ass for the last several years. Not so sure I agree about DeNiro. He has made a lot of crap, but some of the roles were somewhat edgier so even if the movies were not that great, it looked like he was trying to play interesting characters.

    39

Okay, i took the time to read the article because it really sounded interesting and I tend to agree in certain points which is funny because I was just thinking about these actors yesterday when I saw the Godfather Part II on demand last night. When the reporter talks about Jack Nicholson, he is not trying to say that Jack is the better actor between the two but Jack rarely acts in any movies without some type of depth. Alot of Jack's movies win Best Picture even though he may not win the Academy Award for Best Actor(nominated 12 or 13 times). Jack doesn't star in films without "prestigious" actors or directors. He just seems to have the niche for quality in films. I feel the same way with Clint Eastwood. Its not because he directs so its a "good" film, he's from the time of REALLY GOOD ACTORS like Elizabeth Taylor and so on, so he knows what makes a good film. You can't lie and say that movies like Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven, and Mystic River were terrible. As for Gene Hackman, The last really good movie I saw him in was the "Royal Tenenbaums" with Academy Award winners Gwenyth Paltrow and Angelica Huston. Gene knows that there isn't much for him so why should he look like a fool on screen? He's a two time Academy Award winner for a reason, just like Jack who has won 3.

(Continuing) Robert De Niro isn't the same actor anymore just like Pacino because they are leaving bad recent film roles stuck in majority of people's minds. Its awesome that Bobby and Al want to work together since" Heat" but when you have 50 cent in the movie, thats not saying much. The Good Shepherd is a good movie but it shows how vain De Niro has become. He thinks casting Angelina Jolie was a good thing because shes the "it" girl at the moment but honestly she's not that great of an actress, no wonder it didn't get the praise people wanted it to have. While Jack acted with Helen Hunt even though she was a TV star, he knew she had potential. Al has also become vain with the orange tan (isn't he Italian, so why does he need the fake tan for?) and the poofy hairdo, we all know you're 67 years old, poofing your hair doesn't hide the fact that 67 is your age, so Al just do what my Italian father does, don't give a fuck, put some mousse and comb it back like a gentleman.

Saw DeNiro at the Meryl Streep Gala last week and he was hysterical ! Even made a joke about leaving CAA. Funniest one of the evening, besides Meryl, of course !

    44

DeNiro & Pacino are in their late fifties, I'm in my late forties, and I'm not motivated to bust my ass like I used to when I was younger; cut the guys some slack. Like the reporter said, "they're rich." Maybe they feel like they've made enough money busting their butts and want to relax a bit and take roles that are fun and/or interesting to them.

I think the only reason this guy wrote this article, is to get noticed himself. I mean - is he for real? Pacino in a bad movie, is better than most actors today in ANY movie - Full stop! And whats this penchant for mentioning age anyway? people live longer today and should have the opportunity to persue their careers for as long as they are able. In the east people receive respect as they grow older, but not to this journo. So keep'em coming Al - We love you!

You are such a dumb fuck Perez. Al Pacino and Robert Deniro are legendary actors, their careers are far from fucked up. Two of the greatest actors of all time and you really think you can say they fucked up their careers and anyone would believe you? God Damn why do I even come here?

It's interesting to how many morons here write "first"…you're a waste of space

On to, Pacino and Deniro…their legacy is already complete as two of the best American actors in some of the greatest films ever made in the last 30 years. They're actors and their job is too act. It's widely known that good scripts are scare for actors in their AARP years especially females. I admire them for wanting to work and not just go into retirement for art's sake. Many of us when we become seniors will not be looked upon society as productive and thus, thrown on the trash heap. I'm sure there are alot of old actors who would an eye for a chance to work.

As for the writer of this article in LA Times…see how easy it will be for you to get work when you're over 60….you might to be working for some newspaper in a backwater town.

I CAN HARDLY GRASP THE FACT THAT SOMEONE CALLED PACINO AND DINERO SELL OUTS. Who cares if they are making money now? These guys BUILT 70s Hollywood!!!!

    51

The writer of this article is entitled to his own opinion, but I see it a little differently. There are many Deniro and Pacino fans still out there and happy to see their acting skills in movies made for mainstream. I have seen more than enough of Clint Eastwood directed movies to know he rarely gets it right. And Jack hasn't picked the most challenging roles to date in his time…. Something's Gotta Give ring any bells…. I am very excited about Righteous Kill and have been since I heard about it!

i checked out this writer… patrick goldstein for LA times…he's been around for at least 3 years…fancies the whole hollywood scene when it comes to writing…covered alot of the 100 strike, bad mouthed the oscars and again brought up the "aging of the actors" in some of his sper negative articles, i think he considers himself a know-it-all or some kind of hollywood critic…i cant tell though if he really is, or if he justs writes SO negavtive all the time….below is an article that actor rob schneider wrote him in regard to a pompous article he wrote regarding one of rob's movies and his lack of awards… rob rips him a new one!!
… he is almost more of a blog type writer …. dont see much but opinions and no real facts…

    check it out!!
