I love living in a city where I don't need to drive. My friend in Iceland told me gas prices went up again there (roughly $6.75 a gallon now) and people rioted! The cops beat the hell out of people & loads of it caught on tape. & their government taxes their gas roughly 50%! (70 out of 150 Icelandic kronars per litre.) The saddest thing about it is, that they have an endless amount of geothermal energy to fuel what ever sort of public transport they want. I feel awful for people who have no choice but to drive. Us city folk are quick to forget there is a world outside the city limits.
I think everywhere in general should really wake up and work on a positive solution to this. We need to leave the politics behind and see the plain truth. There is more efficient, cheaper and cleaner ways to mobilize ourselves. We have the technology so what is the hold up?

If hybrid cars were more affordable more people would buy them. I guess I'm a douchbag cause I drive a Tahoe, buts its paid off and I like not having a car payment. I only fill up about once every four to six weeks though. I drive a crappy little 99' geo prism to work. If everyone would cut their gas consumption by just 10% the cost would go down.

SO all the environmental liberals out there will not let us start any new drilling domestiaclly off the California coast or in Alaska for example. Off the coast in SB there is natural oil leakage and without drilling the oil is killing the natural wildlife but you people dont care because it would ruin your beautiful view. Without drilling domestically we have to depend on foreign oil, and they can charge whatever they want. We are a society dependant on oil and until that changes we need to start drilling domestically or the prices are going to continue to rise. It is simple economics if you have a short supply and a high demand guess what prices are going to rise!!! You can't have your cake and eat it to. either we start drilling domestically or we continue to pay higher and higher gas prices.

Oil has always been cheap in the USA- we still pay less than the rest of the world. And all the TAXES your state puts onto it don't help lower prices. We have enough OIL in the USA to power cars for decades while we work on hydrogen fuel, but NOOOOOOOOO, we can't drill. Maybe when the polar bears move south, we can drill in the arctic. Now that stupid ethanol is causing world hunger and is more expensive than gas, maybe some people will rethink this and get their heads out of their asses. I see that some people are blaming Bush while others are yammering about the simple economics of the situation. My question is this….had we not occupied Iraq and torn the Middle East to bits, would the price of crude oil be at the price it is today? Bush should release the reserves (at least on a temporary or selective basis) and there needs to be probes into the oil companies who appear to have been price gouging over the last 7 years. Bush certainly can do something about it, and that shouldn't and doesn't include drilling in Alaska for a 6 month supply. He just recently found out the cost per barrel and was stunned. He's completely out of touch with the average American. AND, those who say just to drive less…that's not an option for many. Especially if your work is 40 miles away or if you have children. If people quit buying huge SUV's that get 10 gallons to the mile…that would be a start. If we didn't have to import everything (from China no less)…that would also help. I see people commuting all the time in their HUGE trucks and SUV's and they're the only one in the car. I work 5 miles from my house & I carpool in my car which gets over 30 miles to the gallon, but that doesn't mean that the price of gasoline shouldn't still be looked into.

It two different colored doors and I've have to put a new engine ans trans in but I don't give a shit. Saves me a load of $ for my commute to work! Cosmo, I see your point, but it can also put alot of people out of business if gas rises much higher. I work for an airline and we are struggling. We have had to put many people out of jobs, and to put it mildly, it sucks.
