The tax man is sending action star Wesley Snipes to jail for 3 years!
Snipes has been fighting the IRS for the last decade claiming that he didn't owe the millions they said he did.
But then on Thursday, hours before Snipes was to be sentenced by the government, he cut the Feds three checks for the $5 mill, delivered in court.
WTF?
Fed prosecutors were reportedly so surprised that they first declined the cash.
But by the end of the day, the government took the money AND sentenced Snipes a maximum three-year sentence.
Wow. He got tha MAXIMUM sentence - they are clearly trying to send a message.
U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill told reporters assembled outside the courthouse, "The sentencing court sends the right message to the American taxpayer — you've got to pay your taxes. Rich, poor, it doesn't matter. We all pay our taxes."

He's going to prison, not jail. Jail is short term(i.e. under a year). Prison is long term(366 days and up)
Why does it seem like the example is always set with minorities? Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton and a host of others were driving while under the influence. They were actually risking not only thiers lives but the lives of others and they did a little bit of nothing. Whose life did Wesley Snipes risk? While I believe that snipes is a talented, decent, intelligent, well like guy, I am also extremely puzzled and angry at his actions. I have paid my taxes every year since I was 15, and I make far less then he does. Would it really kill him to give back to the country that he was born in and that gave him oppurtunities to help him succeed?
Seriously! i mean i am glad that he didn't just get a slap on the wrist. but it bothers me that the courts and gov't are willing to throw the book at tax evaders but when it comes to drunk driving, they just let people off! it's ridiculous! can't we get our priorities straight?

Fuck it. Why do we have to pay income tax when we get fucking taxed for everything else. I am not sure if its the same over in the US. But for fuck sake we get taxed on every fucking thing and I have no fucking idea where the fucking taxes go to. When I was unemployed I couldnt even get the dole (unemployment benefits) cause my boyfriend earnt to much. He earnt 35 grand a year. How the fuck can two people live off that shit. I paid my fucking taxes for 8 years straight when I was working and when I got the arse (which wasnt even my fault) I got fucking nothing so fuck the cunts I am sick of it!! Everyone goes on and on about how Hilton got just x number of days for a DUI, etc., etc. Tax evasion is a MUCH larger crime. Money doesn't just materialize out of thin air. Our whole governmental system (all the gov offices, employees, roads, projects, congress, senate, not to mention armed forces) can't operate without taxes. You don't pay up your taxes, you are in big-time trouble. You let one squeak thru, soon enough there are thousands squeaking thru. That is one thing the gov has to put the nails down on. NO ONE gets aways with tax evasion. Period.

actually there is no law that says you have to pay income tax. It's all bullshit. There are a many "retired" IRS agents that refuse to pay taxes because in all their research on the matter, there is no actual piece of legislation that deems them mandatory. This is something that is enforced illegally. Why pay taxes anyway when they go to funding an illegal war in one oil rich country or the next? Just saying. Fuck it, what if no one paid up? Hate to tell you, but there is more of us then them… and as much as they try… you can't imprison everybody.

Well the New York jury has just returned a "not guilty" verdict on the three white police officers who inadvertently killed the wrong black man, Sean Bell, in a police sting at a local raucous night club.
NAACP and all the coloreds are all up in arms. Al Sharpton johnny-on-the-spot-as-usual. Crying, yelling, ANF's, ABF's, ABM's, people fallin-out all over the place, hoopin' & hollerin', all claiming to be victim's who've been wronged.
A perfect micro-sample of the spice of life we will get either for weeks after an Obama defeat, or for 4 years if Obama is elected.
He can afford to pay my taxes as well as his own. While they are at it they can make an example out of child molesters, wife beaters, company exs that make millions while they lay off their workers, medical companies and insurance companies that make millions while people on fixed incomes can't afford medication, celebrities that make 20 million a picture…….I must be hormonal!!!!!

So let's see, he's going to jail for three years because he didn't pay taxes, but he won't do any time at all for killing all those Americans and Iraqis. In fact, no one will do time for that.

I don't care if he wrote a check for $5mill-he cost us all by going through this trial with court costs, security. This is one of the places our taxes go to. These celebrities earn more than enough money now a days. If they own taxes at the end of the year, they need better accountants to withhold enough money for taxes. Everything is expensive now, and the rich do not pay the same percentage that lower income pay. and it seems that the rich use services alot more than the average person. (look at the cost of taking BritBrit to the hospital or the security that TC and others get on the taxpayer's dime)

If your mother, sister, brother, wife, child, girlfriend were killed today because of someone's irresponsibility you would be okay with that person walking away with just 3 years in jail?
I think its so sad that other public figures get 28 days in prison as punishment for endangering themselves and others, but not paying taxes equals 3 years in prison. Lesson of the day: feel free to hurt yourselves and others as long as you pay the government their money.

3 years of hard time seems excessive. Wesley is really unlucky, every day tax evaders get convicted to sentences like 30 days, 60 days, and then one day the prosecutor or the judge decides to set an example and actually give the maximum sentence (which is usually only for repeat offenders, guys who get like their 10th conviction) on a whim, and it just happens to be you in that courtroom that day. That must really suck.
But I am sure they waited until a black not-too-popular celebrity was in court. After all Wesley may have made many action movies, but he is just known, not famous. Nobody will ever claim to be a Snipes fan, you just watch his movies but he is too unsympathetic to be liked. If it was someone like Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis evading taxes the same way, they'd probably get 100 hours of community service along with the fine.
I'm sure Wesley Snipes got it because he's black. A sentence like 3 years probation and 3 months of real hard time would already be a deterrant. 3 years of hard time, even murderers and drunk drivers get less than that.

Everyone who make a reasonable amount of income (minimum wage and up) pay taxes. It is taken out of your check every payday, and then you get your "refund" at tax time. It is not a refund. The tax man has been using your money for the whole year and probably investing it at 5-15% interest rate while you sit back and wait for your $500.00 to $3,000.00 check. I am a big advocate of taxes, that's what make this country go ’round. But understand what is happening.
Hi Everyone. Lets please stop with the whole black and white. While i agree that that sentence seems brutal i think it applies to everyone. Look at Enron, Worldcom etc. Those execs are getting life in Jail for stretching their accounting. I think the guy at Enron is serving half a life sentence for only working there for 6 monhts and not being more vocal about the issues going on. Martha Stewart served 6 months for acting on insider info for only $60,000! Brenda Martin (Canadian in Mexico) has been sentenced to 5 year in a Mexico prison (has already served to) for hypothetically being associated with a fraud. It sucks.
I hope Mr. Snipes will get through this. I also hope that we all look at these examples and ensure that it never happens to any of us.

I think he got the max cause he fought with them all the way… had he just given them the money to begin with they wouldn't have "bent him over". Then giving them the money after so many years of fighting is also like an admission of guilt, that he was wrong all along. He's certainly got it worse than other people who haven't paid though. I always remind people… it wasn't the FBI that nailed Al Capone to the wall… it was the IRS. So NEVER f*ck with them, just pay your dues, and pay it quick.
