It sounds to me mr. Walsh-Smith enjoyed having a trophy wife and now, for whatever reasons, wants to dump her off like a used TV. Tricia Walsh-Smith obviously married for money and standing in teh NYC theater community. They were using each other — it was like a business deal more than a marriage, and neither of them are angels.
Old men getting trophy wives and women marrying the old men for money happens all the time, but most of the old men have enough decency to give their ex-trophies a modicum to buy out their "business deal" when they discard the trophy — she put up with him for that long, after all. Wals-Smith is being ugly and vindictive about it.
