Even Paris Is Getting Into The Swing Of Things

Filed under: Paris Hilton > Inspiration

paris_hilton_kitson_080_wenn5126948.jpg

A little bit of shopping = doing a lot of good!

Paris is using her celebrity to raise awareness for a good cause!

The socialite's camp tipped off the paparazzi on Monday that she would be making an appearance at Kitson. Convenient.

And, when Hilton showed up, she was wearing a "We HEART To Erase MS" t-shirt, drawing attention to the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

Unfortunately, the ERASE MS charity has the dubious distinction of being started by the grandmother of Brandon & Jason Davis.

Kinda taints the whole experience!

If you can look beyond the coke, the sweat and the bloat, then click here for more info on the The Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis and their annual gala, this coming weekend.

Although the MS foundation may benefit marginally from Ms. Hilton donning this shirt, I don't believe for a second that she is doing it for anyone other than Paris Hilton.

Anyone can wear a t-shirt. I don't think that qualifies her as a saint. Remember when she wore the "rock the vote" t-shirt and then it turned out she didn't even vote??

  20. #20 - Marcus Aurelius says – reply to this

All joking aside, my maternal grandmother was diagnosed in 1961 at the age of 40 with Multiple Sclerosis. My mother, an only child, then watched my grandmother, with an atypically slowly progressive form, deteriorate over the next forty years. I grew up with my grandmother having MS. Walking with a cane, then a walker, then in a wheelchair. It is not curable. One sooner or later dies from it.
In July, 2006, my baby sister was diagnosed at 39 with Multiple Sclerosis. She has a Masters in Social Work, and is a Registered Nurse—a kind, sweet, and highly functional and ambitious young woman.
Now my mother has to watch her youngest daughter go through the same difficulties, doubt, anger, depression, numbness, seizures, vision impairment, migraines, difficulty walking, and…the reality of getting worse…and yes, the final outcome. I wish I could have stepped forward to ask God to give it to me and spare my baby sister. But, unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
Multiple Sclerosis is not pretty, and it is not kind. It breaks your heart.

Oh, please, Paris probably thinks that MS is just a side affect of period cramping. She's only doing this for the PR and gives a shit about no one but herself, so let's not give her credit for her 'charity work' until it's really genuine, kay?

My mother has MS so I feel your pain. I have been raising money for the MS Walk every year and will continue until a cure is found, probably even after. I will keep your family in my prayers because I know how hard it is to have them deteriorate right in front of your eyes.

  33. #33 - jbonz says – reply to this

This business of celebrities using their fame to "raise awareness" is the biggest load of steaming horse shit to ever come down the pike! The dirty bastards don't do anything or give anything, they just pose and smile and say "y'all need to do something and give something. Get my good side!" Anyone who thinks standing and smiling while the cameras flash is an act of charity is a complete idiot.

Re: Cita – Thank you 35. I usually come to this site for fun to unwind. And as I read my entry, it is so starkly serious, compared to other posts, and my usual posts. I hope teens and twenty-somethings take the time to notice that Perez/Mario is doing a good thing. His intentions are in the right place. When you're young you think you are invincible, but in one's thirties the harsh realities usually settle in as a solid presence in life, that one has to just deal with. And still be happy. Thank you, Cita. I don't care about your politics or religion, you dared to reach out and touch. And that is more kind and more cool than any wit or sarcasm.

I am really NOT a Paris fan, but I am a fan of anything to help get rid of MS.

I am 39 and in the process of being diagnosed after 13 years of relapsing/remitting MS symptoms. I have now progressed to secondary progressive MS and am using a cane.

I try to live one day at a time, but with 4 kids and a biz to run, it VERY difficult. Perez is my guilty pleasure and any laugh I can get is a laugh I'll take :)

  40. #40 - Marcus Aurelius says – reply to this

Re: Jill – Number 41. Hang in there. I recognize/acknowledge your difficulty. In retrospect, we can see symptoms my sister had prior to 2006. She is a member of a support group in Dallas, TX. And she has a family, and a brother, who love her very, very, very, very much. My arms fit to hug anyone with MS. Big hug. I read everything I can get my hands on about MS. And my hat is off to to anyone who struggles to live with it.

  41. #41 - SA Mom says – reply to this

Doesn't matter why she's wearing the shirt, or who started the fund. If you really want to give there are other options, the National MS Society is another one. She's got people talking & thinking about it, including you. MS is a disease that leaves you fully alert & orientated, but trapped in your own body eventually. In many cases you lose control your movement, bladder, & bowels. You become a tetraplegic(quad) with full sensation. There are MS walks/runs/bike rides happening all over. Go out & get involved to help somebody other than yourselves. If you joke this away you have no heart or maybe you just lack understanding of the larger picture. Some members in our family ride in the MS150 Bike to the Beach. It's a ride from San Antonio to Corpus Christi to raise money & awareness for MS. It is an amazing thing to see, thousands of people get involved to help so many they will never meet. http://txh.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=TXH_homepage&utm_source=urlShortcut&utm_campaign=urlShortcut

  50. #50 - BB says – reply to this

Doesn't matter who runs a charity, as long as it's for the greater good. And by the way Perez, Nancy Davis is their Mother, not their Grandmother.

  51. #51 - Ariana Banana says – reply to this

Re: GIBBYWIBBY – Really? Are you fucking kidding me?? You honestly need to come down, or start taking your meds cause you are a really fucking shit of a human being. Have a little bit of respect and humanity, okay? It's really not that hard.

  52. #52 - Sarah H says – reply to this

    Perez,

Being the Grandmother of Jason and Brandon Davis should not make you or anyone question the validity of a charity. My Mother was diagnosed with MS fifteen years ago, and nothing about her life after that diagnosis has been easy. So please keep your rude and judgmental comments to yourself. People who are affected by this disease may be reading this. Unless you have firsthand knowledge of this disease or of the woman who started this charity you really should be kinder and watch your words. I've been visiting your site for years, but this comment today really has made question whether or not I will return.

    Have a heart Perez.

  55. #55 - Alyssa says – reply to this

My mother was diagnosed with MS in September of 1999. I was 12 years old. Today, she is using a walker just to get around. She has numbness, vision loss, tingling pain, weakness, and during flare ups of this disease, she is paralyzed.
It doesn't make sense. It's uncontrollable. They don't know how you get it. They don't know how to stop it.
All I know is, I'm walking on May 4th to support my mom. Her daily struggle and determination is something to admire. She will be there, wheel chair handy (she keeps a wheel chair for when she becomes paralyzed), saying "Hey! Fuck you MS!"

  56. #56 - gary says – reply to this

at least shes supporting a good cause no matter who she is, at least MS research is benefitting from it, even if she is too… people cant see anyone for good…no matter what, get a fucking grip.
MS is a hoorible disease, my mother is a sufferer at only 37 being diagnosed, its about time MS was mentioned on here!thanks perez!

  57. #57 - mytwocents says – reply to this

As someone who works in healthcare I hate when these celebs do this . It's just not even genuine. She thinks its trendy.

No seriously if it makes 1 more person aware of the disease and help its worth it BUT i bet if anyone asked her what does MS stand for she won't know. If they said well how do you know if someone has MS she would say THATS SO HOT

  58. #58 - anne says – reply to this

I am 23 years old and I have recently been diagnosed with MS. I may not be a fan of Paris Hilton, but my eyes kind of lit up when I saw this picture. Until my diagnosis, I knew nearly nothing about this disease. For whatever reasons she is truly doing this, I am glad that she is putting that message out there. I don't think that there is nearly enough awareness of this disease and I applaud any effort to see a celebrity doing any small thing that they can to stir up discussion about it.

I only wish that you did not add a negative tone to this post by mentioning the Davis connection/ bloat, coke, etc. You are doing a good thing by supporting so many good causes on your blog, but why does this one deserve a sarcastic tone? I don't think that you quite realize the devastation of this disease or you would have taken this more seriously. Still, I'm glad you posted anything on it at all I guess.

I always thought Paris could be like a Lady Di, (not that there is any replacing the original), but nonethe less, Paris could use her fame and notority for good causes. It's all about choice of action.

  71. #71 - Camille says – reply to this

I'm an 18 year old person MS sufferer here in little old London, and even though I'm not the biggest fan of Paris Hilton, it's nice that she's just advertising it a little bit. Even for the wrong reasons it's still good!

  72. #72 - will says – reply to this

So the media was notified? How typical Hilton. That's not charity — that's business. My guess is that Benji has been encouraging her to take up some good causes lately. MS has been around a long time; I know many people who have donated their time and resources tirelessly to fight this terrible desease. And that does not include Hilton. Photo op anyone?

  73. #73 - cat says – reply to this

Another photo op on behalf of “charity”? Please. When Hilton posed and hammed it up for the cameras at that school/orphanage in South Africa, it just made me nauseous. Princess Di – who Hilton claims she admired — would never have behaved in such a gauche manner in front of the cameras. But that’s the difference between the legendary character, caring and grace of Di, and the classless, narcissistic opportunism of Hilton. Hilton just doesn’t get it, and she never will.

  74. #74 - Paris Hater says – reply to this

  77. #77 - Habsburg-Lorraine says – reply to this

Re: Shelby – Number 71, Paris Hilton is not a european aristocrat. Her Royal Highness The Princess Of Wales, nee Lady Diana Spencer is of an english aritocratic title that goes back for centuries. That's about like comparing Madonna to the real Blesed Virgin Mary, Mother Of Jesus. Shame on you.

  78. #78 - haley says – reply to this

  82. #82 - LOLLIE says – reply to this

My mum passed away with MS. There are more women than men affected by this disease and it is so sad to watch women as young as thirty in nursing homes with old people. I take my hat off to any celebrity that raises awareness of diseases like this. Please donate to the MS society and help them build better facilities for younger women with MS. It affects all parts of your nervous system and makes sufferers sometimes unable to move, but they are normal functioning people, it just there bodies don't work properly. Nice Perez. From OZ

  83. #83 - carlyannie says – reply to this

Too little…too late! Her hair is fake (natural color is brown and is curly); her eyes are fake (natural color is brown); her voice is fake (by her own admission during the DUI fiasco she said she was going to stop using her baby voice); her promises are fake (she said she was tired of partying, was ready to grow up and start devoting her time to worthy causes). She has slept around more than Wilt Chamberlain (sp?). The only time she does any good is when she wants the bad press to stop! We all need to expose this lowlife for what she is!

  84. #84 - Kate says – reply to this

It's about time. Benji Madden has done this girl more good than anyone could have expected.

At first I thought the shirt was supposed to mean "We love to erase MySpace," lol. But Multiple Sclerosis is a much, much, MUCH more important thing to worry about!

  85. #85 - Debbie says – reply to this

My father has MS and I spent this weekend getting him in and out of bed onto his motorized chair and on and off the toilet due to his weakened condition after a virus. How cool is that? 89. #89 - Wig wag says – reply to this

Hey. I agree with everyone saying it's a good thing she's wearing the t shirt. who cares if she's a nob, she's promoting a really worthwhile charity. in the uk i have seen one charity shop dedicated to it, so if celebs can use their publicity good on them. my dad's a sufferer, and it's pretty frustrating that there's very little awareness for it.
