It took them long enough!
According to the reports, a former employee of the UCLA Medical Center was indicted Tuesday by the Feds for allegedly accessing the confidential medical records of celebrity patients and selling them to a "national media outlet".
Lawanda Jackson was charged with obtaining the information between 2006 and May 21, 2007, when she was fired from her position at the hospital.
According to court documents, the "media outlet" paid Jackson (via her husband) at least $4600 for the information.
That's it?????
She sold out those celebs for cheap!
The court documents do not reveal which celebs Jackson sold out or the name of the media outlet, but we're told The National Enquirer was the one to pony up the cash for the info.
If convicted Jackson faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Wow. I bet she regrets it now. Sometimes I think fame has a price you have to pay, like surrendering privacy…TO A CERTAIN extent. But Medical Records, SHOULD BE KEPT PRIVATE. I hope Lawanda gets the max. That is just wrong! Taking photos, writing articles, etc. is understandable but the media goes WAY too far sometimes. This is an example.

It's not 10 years for $4600, its 10 years for an intentional HIPPAA (the law that is made to protect any person from health information being leaked) violation. Which could also be penalized $25000 per incident.

Federal law prohibits the release of private health information. She is lucky they didn't put her away for 20 years. I'd be furious if she gave out my health info- I'd sue her in civil court for damages and take every dime for the rest of her miserable life. I don't think the punishment is severe enough. patients are vulnerable and have to trust that they AND their records are safe and confidential.
