He Did it! World Record Holder!!!

We had some doubts, but….he did it!!

David Blaine set a new world record Wednesday for breath-holding.

The illusionist and daredevil held his breath underwater for 17 minutes and 4 seconds!

Blain's attempt was broadcast live during the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday.

According to reports, Blaine looked relaxed afterward and said the record was "a lifelong dream."

The previous record was 16 minutes and 32 seconds, set Feb. 10 by Switzerland's Peter Colat, according to Guinness World Records.

"I feel great," Blaine said after he broke the record.

While he was submerged he started to develop an irregular heartbeat. And, yet, he went through with it anyways.

Congrats! Idiot!

    He is suppose to have an irregular heart beat when he goes underwater, that is the Dive Response when your heart beat slows down and blood is diverted to your brain directly since it depends in aerobic metabolism and no oxygen is being delivered to other tissues since they can be sustained by anaerobic metabolism. SO pretty much all the oxygen is going to his brain, this reflex is actualy pretty cool and thats why uncontious poeple are more likley to survie for longer period of time underwater then when they are in air, since their brail will have all the access to the oxygen in the body. but its pretty amazing he could do that for 17 minutes :)

    so for people wondering why he didnt have brian damage its because of the dive reflex, he could have not lasted that long if he held his breath in air because oxygen could have been easily absorbed by muscle tissues. hes not dumb for chosing to hold his breath in water.

    There are two world records for breath holding… one where you "dope" (are allowed to suck on pure oxygen for up to 30 minutes before you start holding your breath) and one where you don't "dope" the record for non doping (what most of you think of when you think of holding your breath) is like 7 min (still impressive non the less) but that should put it in perspective for you what sucking down pure oxygen for half an hour can help your body do… that's why he is an ILLUSIONIST
