We don't play video games anymore, but it seems like MILLIONS of you still do.
The new "Grand Theft Auto 4" just went on sale Tuesday. And the reaction?
Fans were lining up outside just to be the first to grab some copies!
It's like the Tickle Me Elmo craze, but for older kiddies.
Retailers were taking advance orders for the game weeks ago, and many of the stores opened their doors at midnight to allow eager fans the first opportunity to purchase the game.
Estimates are that the first-week sales for the game will be around $400 million!

One crazy devoted fan, John Alba, who waited in line at a GameStop in New York for hours to purchase the game, says, "It gives you the opportunity to escape reality. This game has everything — sex, drugs, cars, money … anything you want."
We thought that's what the internet was for!
The game's maker, Take-Two Interactive Software, is facing a $2 billion takeover from its rival, Electronic Arts.
Take-Two has rejected EA's $2 billion offer. CRAZY!! How do you turn down $2 billion? Apparently they see the figure as too low and are waiting to receive the dollar amounts from Grand Theft Auto's recent release.
Judging from their first-week sales, holding out seems like a smart move!

EA suck balls. They cannot produce quality themselves and have to rely on buying up the competition. Known for EA Sports primarily, EA aren't just eyeing "GTA" - the parent company of Rockstar, Take 2, just happen to own EA'S MAIN SPORTING COMPETITION: "2K GAMES", generally considered to make sporting games of far better quality.
I still haven't forgiven EA for buying up Bullfrog (makers of "Theme Park"), and destroying that company.

it went on sale Sunday, and it is insane! It overshadowed Mark Kart's release on the Wii, which is a pretty good game. I need to get me a copy of GTA though..everyone says it's AWESOME.

Have you actually played it? It's quite tame compared to t.v. or what I could find with a few clicks on the internet. The game is controlled by a rating system in America, as in most countries, meaning, again, unlike television or the internet, that kids should not be able to get a hold of it, and, to be honest, the game's narrative is a lot more robust and developed than your rationale for culture having gone to Hell.

I was one of the many in line at 12:01 a.m. at our local Game Crazy in TN. I don't play (my Fiance does) but it's amazing to watch on XBOX Live. This was supposed to be the biggest release of the summer in the gaming world…..Next up, Gears of War 2!!!!

If EA takes over Take Two and Rockstar games they will turn titles like GTA and Bully into Sesame Street. Sorry I don't care to play soccer while living the the life in San Andeas or LC.
BTW, I am a girl and GTA is the only game I actually buy when a new version is released. It's just that interesting and addictive.

My brother always buys the GTA games and got this one and it sooooo hot! I love it! And it's does let you exscape reality! If someones pisses you off and you have a bad day turn it on and run over ten people or shoot them etc. It's fun. Its just like movies and TV - it's entertainment. And I'm a girl and LOVE IT!

Yes, it's true, GTA games contain sex, drugs, and violence. But guess what, if you have kids, it's your job as a parent to prevent them from from playing Mature rated games. Just as it's your job to prevent them from watching R rated movies. If your kid is playing GTA, it's YOUR fault, not mine.
GTA has so far been rated 10 out of 10 on several well respected gaming web sites, that's pretty damn impressive. In fact it's the best rated game to come out in YEARS. Believe it or not the gaming community doesn't just rate a game highly because it has hookers in it. GTAIV has a new combat system, a more cohesive story and mission structure, plus -for the first time in any GTA game- online multiplayer.
As far as EA goes, sorry but they were being sneaky, slimy, and underhanded. They were attempting to force a hostile takeover for a low ball price, because they knew that once GTAIV was released the stock prices would skyrocket and it would be much harder for them to convince people to sell out to them. EA is attempting to absorb Take-two into their massive conglomeration of a corporation; something which could greatly affect Take-two's creative freedom. Sorry, but I'm not interested in an EA monopoly.
People who play video games are the people who dont do bad stuff in real life.. They do it in the game. Duh!

Money has nothing to do with the Take Two/EA dilemma. EA is a pitiful company with no grasp on the gaming community, the joke developers of the gaming world.
How do people not think that this is f-ed up? This is not the same as watching violence and crime (which is bad enough). In this case, you are participating in this. In what way can this be good for your mind? How can you enjoy killing and stealing? This is entertainment? It is scary that so many people participate in this and consider it fun. And, heaven forbid you let your kid play this!!!!! Parents actually purchase this for their kid. I guess they do it so that their kid will like them. Don't you realize that the purpose of being a parent is not so that you can have a buddy or friend? You're supposed to be a role model. Do you want your kid to focus on what is good or right in the world, or do you want them to focus on crime and killing? Why don't you actually spend time with your kid. You could take them to the park and have a picnic. Buy yourself some bikes. Make cookies with your kid. Seriously.
