      47

I think it's probably THIS article:

Gay couple asked to leave bar

Two men who were dancing together at a local bar were asked to leave After witnesses saw them kiss.

… complaints being made at Royal Palms about behaviour which was making patrons uncomfortable,”

“Officers responded and the parties involved were spoken to. One man attended the George Town police station where the inspector on duty reviewed the complaints. It was decided that no action was necessary. At no point was there any disorderly conduct and no arrests were made.

Royal Palms management declined to comment on the incident nor discuss whether the bar has a policy precluding same-sex couples.

The hot button issue of homosexuality and its place in Cayman society has recently been reignited in ongoing public forums discussing the proposed Bill of Rights.

Many members of the community, including religious leaders, have been outspoken against same-sex civil unions, which the government has said will not be recognised in the Cayman Islands under a new constitution.

In 1998, a cruise ship chartered by gay passengers was not allowed to dock in Grand Cayman. Ensuing widespread public debate over the matter eventually led to the UK Government introducing the Caribbean Territories (Criminal Law) Order 2000, which expressly legalises homosexuality between two consenting adults.

HEY PEREZ…you might NOT want to link up to small time websites,,,all you do is cause a strain to their servers and crash the websites. Why not copy/paste the article for people to read? It's stupid of you to direct your readers over to a SMALL ISLAND website that will OBVIOUSLY NOT have the bandwidth to handle the load. Clue in dumbass!

      52

Re: Vanessa – Oh yeah, it was scandalous lol. It was an Atlantis cruise on Royal Carribean's "Freedom of the seas". From what I understand, the Caymans never allowed gay cruises until their tourism was down, so ours was the only one to date. When we got off the boat there was a whole bunch of people standing in a church yard screaming at us and holding the typical "God hates homosexuals", "Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve" signs and etc. But I will say that this one elderly woman sat in a chair nearby waving at us and clapping saying"welcome to Grand Cayman boys". Several guys talked to her and as it turned out, she had a gay son who had been murdered for being himself….SO sad! God bless her. We also stopped in Cozumel on that cruise and as myself and many guys were walking through the touristy shopping area, this one Mexican guy yelled out "Alright, the gay men are here to shop folks!" and started clapping….so fucking funny! Needless to say we were well received there, but I doubt there will ever be a gay boat stopping in Jamaica…..we'd get killed there.

You shouldn't blame a whole fucking island ass wipe!! I live in Bermuda and the same shit happened here when Rosie O'Donnell's cruise wanted to come(IF THAT IS THE CASE SINCE THE LINK ISN'T WORKING). Small islands are RULED by churches! So just because a FEW small minded people don't want gays here doesn't mean the whole country feels that way! Thats like saying all Americans are stupid! Yes, a lot are - but NOT ALL! I don't care you your gay or straight. If your a good person nothing else should matter. Because they are gay they shouldn't be allowed to have some fun in the sun? Ignorance!

Perez, get over it, there is an old saying, When in Rome, do as the Romans!!!
That's relatively simple, is'nt it!!! What is it, those two bitches blonde or something??? They can't figure out the laws of the land!!! Did they also try driving on the right hand side of the road!!! Cayman drives left but that's about the only thing they do left!!!

    70. JoJo says – reply to this

      70

I had the privledge of living on Grand Cayman for 5 yrs and am lifelong friends with many locals. Caymanians respect all individuals and have done a incredible job of including people of different cultures and lifesyles from all over the world into THEIR society. Dont we all get a little turned off by excessive public affection especially if its ilegal, right or wrong?

    71. Abi says – reply to this

      71

OHHH it's some religious thing about them not allowing gay cruises? DUH the island is covered with crazy islander churches….. well not duh, i guess you would have to go there to find out. Look, Americans are so quick to judge other countries ways… I'm not saying I agree with homophobia, cause I totally don't… but no one is forcing you to visit their country or live there. Get over it.

    72. Pack it tight says – reply to this

      72

SO you can't pack fudge, who cares.

    73. John says – reply to this

      73

My boyfriend lives in Grand Cayman, so this hits home for me… and yes arrests WERE made for the two men doing nothing but kissing… it's sickening and for once I applaud Perez for putting this pathetic homophobia on blast! Get human rights groups involved, get the media involved, get England (who is sanctioning this behavior??) involved (it's a British territory after all). I agree the island is beautiful and the people I met were awesome but clearly the Caymanian government needs to start addressing this basic issue of civil rights more seriously.

    74. kmanblondie says – reply to this

      74

hey perez, easy with slandering cayman!! it sucks that we are governed by jesus and his followers… but you cant be ignorant and curse a whole coutnry because of some bible thumpers! i've lived in cayman my whole life! went to school with homosexuals (that sadly were never accepted, and often teased/ridiculed etc), homophobes, guys, girls, black, white, chinee and blue! sadly beause our population is (roughly) 50,000 and the biggest of our 3 islands is 23 miles long we tend to be VERY judgemental! of course the church beliefs instilled in us from the time we were born dont help…… but still theres no need to bash the open minded, gay loving people that are either from here or are born and raised caymanians!!

and re: the gay cruise ship that came here…. our gov ALLOWED it to happen not because tourism was down but because it was the right thing! there were people protesting yes but there were also people out there supporting and welcoming those that decided to venture off the ship… you can check the archives for the cayman compass and see a photo of my friends dressed in rainbow colors with welcome signs on their lunch breaks!

    77. kmanblondie says – reply to this

      77

and John… like someone said earlier… "WHEN IN ROME"… yes we have different ways/laws/rules/expectations etc… but we are a tiny island with a christian foundation… we dont really care if gays are here or not.. all the people of the cayman islands want is a little respect… just keep your business to yourself.. there is no need for PDA on an island where homosexuality is considered a sin…

    78. Trinity_KY says – reply to this

      78

Speaking as a Cayman resident I do apologise if this is article is regarding anti-gayness! Can't open the link… but I can tell you that the Cayman Islands have toonnnnss of greatness to offer. This was one of very few isolated incidents; it does not reflect the views of the Cayman's general society! come visit xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

For all of u FUCKtards out there… the link is working, it's the other side of it that has crashed! The web host/server for this Cayman thing cannot handle all of the traffic Perezers is sending them!!!! Someone suggested that Perez cut n paste the article… I think it's funny as hell that he has the power to bring sites down!!!!! Basically he doesn't like something that went down over there, and consequently, he is adversely affecting travel to the Caymans, by crashing web-sites!!! BRILLIANT !!!!!

    84. John says – reply to this

      84

      Re: kmanblondie

"When in Rome"? Don't for a second think that it's a bunch of gay tourists that are sparking this controversey… you do realize that there are (plenty!) of gay Caymanian natives, right? People who are born on the island, who love their family and their friends, but will never be able to live freely? Your country is treating your own citizens like crap. Nevermind the tourists!

OK, first of all - you people annoy me with the FIRST crap! WHO CARES IF YOU ARE FIRST?!?!? I certainly don't - you're just taking up comments with that stupid shit. Secondly, don't blame Perez for the bad link - that website probably just couldn't handle all the traffic. The whole website is down right now - not just the link he gave us. Get a life people! UGH!

    89. gaz says – reply to this

      89

kman blondie you're out of your mind. if we didn't care about gay people coming to cayman then we wouldn't have had dozens of idiots with anti-gay signs lining the streets when a cruise ship with gay passengers called in george town.

cayman hides behind the guise of being christian and god-fearing, which is a crock.

cayman is not a god-fearing island; it is an island of hypocrits who speak out of both sides of their mouth. cayman claims to champion human rights then berates and harrasses humans for harmless behaviour.

perhaps an economic/tourism embargo might be the wake-up call cayman needs to let them know that human rights apply to all humans.

i'm going on vaca there in less than 2 weeks. i support day rights and won't vacation there in the future b/c of this. i didn't know they country was so intolerant….i supposed it's ok to lauder money for cartels and criminals but not for 2 men in love to kiss in public. whatever.

but since the vaca is already booked and the island is beautiful i plan on enjoying myself while i'm there. it really does have some of the best diving in the world.
