Done. Forever.

Super group the Police announced at a New York press conference on Tuesday that they'll play their final concert EVER in NYC in August - the exact date to be announced.

This final concert will be a fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the production of arts programming for New York's public television stations Thirteen/WNET and WLIW New York. Tickets will be available nationally online via the Thirteen/WNET and WLIW Web sites.

The band also announced that they will contribute $1 million to NYC Mayor Bloomberg's MillionTreesNYC initiative — a gift the city will match — to plant trees all over New York City.

This announcement comes at a perfect time for Sting!

Is he hoping that we'll talk more about this new great thing he's gonna be a part of and stop yapping about the Rainforest charity 'scandal' he was linked to yesterday?

It's hard to forget the bad stuff!

His charity has already been exonerated on those accusations, you stupid boob!!!
Do you ever report anything in a timely manner? What's your personal standard–get it out within the new moon??
Please come down with something incurable.

What percentage of the 'proceeds?' One percent? Ten percent? 100 Percent?
If you want to be painted as some kind of selfless philanthropist, the extent of your donation should be crystal clear and cut and dried.

perez–you are an idiot. i am not a fan of Sting, but he has done more for the planet over his 35 year career than you'll do in 10 lifetimes. he has a small scandal and you think he decides to retire The Police to supercede that a shady benefit?

  12. Pffft. says – reply to this

    12

Re: jackob sevenfeld – Hey, Perez just reports things as he gets them, he doesn't 'create' that news that came out yesterday about Sting. You seem unclear on the concept, and name calling isn't necessary here.

Perez, I believe you have a major, major drug problem. How in the hell can you diss STING and The Police. You shallow asswipe. That man is a musical and lyrical genius. So the hell what something went awry with his last charity event! How much media and exposure has he brought to third world countires suffering devasting war-torn tragedies for the last 20 years!!!! You are an IDIOT Perez. You have lost all credibility with me for your fucked up opinions. I'll be there for that last concert Sting!! Job well done man, rock on!!!!

I saw The Police last summer and I was not impressed. I felt like I was at the same *exact*concert I saw in the 80's. So I say, it's about time to hang it up, fellas.

Well fuck 'em then. Stewart Copeland's drumming is the best part of this group anyway. Sting has a pissy little ego problem.

I am going to see them at Red Rocks in July. Imagine how much my tickets are worth now. Totally wish I had bought some extra to sell, now that those tickets and that concert is going to be "Historical". Totally stoked that I get to go. Been going to Police concerts since 1978. This will be epic.

Saw them last summer….disappointing show w/ the except of Stewart Copeland on drums. Sting phoned in it. Yawn.

oh god…this announcement makes me so sad. :( I'm a lifelong police fan, and to have a definitive end is just plain depressing.
it also shocks me to see andy summers totally ignored by everyone in this thread. yes, sting is a bit of a wanker. yes, stewart copeland is brilliance personified. but andy summers is amazing too, and extremely cool for such an old dude.

i was there, i was in the front next to copeland and boy did those three look tired and ready to hang it all up. weird to see. sting had a beard and was wearing a summer hat and the rest of the band was in black.

The Police are the best band that ever lived. Saw them 4th row center in Tampa and they rocked the roof off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sting is amazing - totally perfect.

It will be a sad day in August.

celebrities can go fuck themselves with their "last concert ever" routine! I guarantee in a few years when someone pays them the right amount of money, they will be back and doing a reunion tour!! you can totally quote that!! Celebrities do this only so that they can get larger cash in for doing concerts, this is so lame, who fucking cares already….

    29

This is the reason that so many of us regular folks feel so negatively about celebrities. They make tons of money, which I don't have a problem with, and the still act like douches when it comes to FREE swag. Come on!!! How many swarwovski encrusted blackberry phones do u need? People, before u donate $5,$10,$15 dollars or whatever to some charity, do your homework. Are they doing their job? If a celeb starts the charity then be doubly vigilant.

    33

Perez, you should know Sting's foundation did scandalous things like that BEFORE, in 1999!!!!!

People read this (from heartland.org watchdog site)

    Quote:

"Nevertheless, the Rainforest Foundation’s financial filing with the New York State Attorney General reports the foundation gave a paltry 22 percent of its revenues to environmental causes in 1999, the most recent year for which it has filed.

Still more startling, of the $1.6 million in box office revenues collected for “the biggest environmental fundraising event in the world,” only $57,000 ever made it into the coffers of the Rainforest Foundation. And then, of course, 22 percent of $57,000 is less than $13,000.

When watchdog groups attempted to contact Sting for comment on what some are now calling “the biggest environmental farce in the world,” Sting’s representatives directed all calls to the Rainforest Foundation, which predictably said it was not yet prepared to interpret the numbers for the public.

The fact that virtually all of the paying-public’s money was being diverted away from the environment seemed of little bother to the famous, and famously activist, celebrities in attendance."

I hate him and Bono too. Both are stingy fakers.

FYI, it is normal for an event to fork over only 1/2 to the designated charity, this is an industry standard really. There has to be money paid to the event coordiator as well as venue rental etc…

I think neither The Police nor Sting nor Bono nor yourselves will be impressed with some of the comments here. (hint: find the comment with the capslock activated :D )

I'm not impressed either. If any of you gets as famous as Sting you have the right to bitch. For now, be patient and try.

I wouldn't put the word scandal in quotaton marks. When you misrepresent yourself as raising money for a charity, yet pocket the lion's share of the money you raised, then you lied. To your fans, to the INTERNATIONAL press, to the indigenous people residing in those rainforests. Sting is another selfish, greedy, Briton who took unsuspecting Yanks to the cleaners. Go away already, and take the useless Trudie Styler with you.
