This Is Not A Joke

Guns kill!!!!!!!

We're all for people having the right to bear arms (within reason), but…..

There needs to be a stricter screening process and background check!!!!

Some "accidents" just don't need to happen.

Like that dude that accidentally shot and killed his 9-year-old son after he mistook him for a turkey!

Yeah, he was allegedly high and drunk!

Well, it just happened AGAIN.

David Schmidthuber went turkey hunting with his 14-year-old son in Oldham County, Kentucky, this past weekend.

His son Steven got separated from his father about 30 minutes after entering the woods.

That's when police say the father mistook his son for a turkey and shot him!!!!!

We're serious.

The son passed away due to the shot.

According to police, no charges are expected to be filed.

We just can't even begin to imagine what that would do to a person: KILLING your own son.

What a fucking idiot!!!!!

Dear parents: please please please please PLEASE keep your children safe at home when you go hunting or will be using firearms.

It's just common sense!!!!!

SO stop arguining "he was showing him gun safety".

    44. Sonia says – reply to this

      44

I live in Minnesota, a state with a lot of deer hunters running amuk in the woods. When I was 15 years old, my uncle and I were shot at by a hunter who was trespassing on our farm property. We have hunters here who shoot out of season, without permits, and who have no regard for "No Trespassing" signs on privately owned property. The worst offenders are the ones who shine deer at night and shoot right into residential areas. There is no way to control the problem, and it wreaks havoc for everyone in rural areas. No one will ever convince me that we all have a God-given right to gun ownership.

      51

I love you Perez, but I disagree. The law should be changed, no one should have the right to bear arms, if no one was allowed to own guns there would be less deaths due to guns, THAT'S common sense. Why do you think far far FAR fewer people die in europe due to gun crime in comparison to the states, uh, cause they're not allowed to possess arms, simply as.

      52

This is a really REALLY sad event that happened but it's unfair to say that he was drunk and high. He blew a .06 at the scene which isn't even over the legal limit in minnesota, also they haven't proven when the marijuana was in his system that stays in your body for weeks so it's very likely he wasn't high when this happened. I'm sure he was excited to take his son out hunting and bond with him, killing his own son is punishment enough. This breaks my heart

    53. Renelle says – reply to this

      53

Now yall people just piss me off! Why not take your kids hunting with you? They learn gun safety and what happens when you shoot something. Instead of these city kids that take a revolver and point it at some other kid and shoot them. If they know what kinds of damage a gun can cause then they won't point it at someone.

Also, we eat what we shoot. We do not keep "trophies". We and our other buddies that hunt wait till after the hunt if we are going to drink. So don't roll everyone that hunts in to that idiot redneck catagory. There ARE responsible hunters out there.

    54. Ashley is stupid says – reply to this

      54

You are an idiot, Ashley. "the majority of people who go out hunting are also drinking while they are hunting". Anyone can be stupid about ANYTHING they do. How about the people who drink at baseball games, parades, or golfing? Not "everyone" who hunts, drink. Do not categorize those that are concientious with the idiots that drink and hunt. There are many safe and respectable people who hunt.

    55. don't be absurd says – reply to this

      55

I've never posted a comment on here before, but I couldn't let this slip by.

To Ashley, who blindly asserts that "the majority of people who go out hunting are also drinking…"- that is a ridiculous and dangerous generalization. I grew up in a community of farmers and hunters, and heard not one story of hunting while under the influence of any substance. My father, grandfather, uncles and brothers all hunt as well, and would never do so after or while drinking. Certainly there are people who do, but undoubtedly the majority do not.

The hunters in my family have handled guns for literally decades. No one has ever shot anything they didn't aim at. The rules are always hold the gun vertically, barrel up, and always assume it's loaded and the safety is off. When people exercise the right kind of caution and control, hunting is as safe an activity as sky-diving or mountain climbing. They all carry risks.

      58

Your last statement contradicts your first. The IDIOT killed his son. Guns don't kill, people kill. I would question why the father would allow his son to be separated from him in the woods like that without knowing EXACTLY where his son was. That is Hunting Safety 101. This guy should have his hunting license permanently revoked. I hate hunting, but I am a firm believer in the right to bear arms. Stating that "Guns Kill" is like saying "Alcohol Kills" without realizing that people make choices to use alcohol to excess or get behind the wheel of a car just as people make the choice to use guns irresponsibly.

My question is, did the son even wear anything hunting safety appropriate. Living here in South Dakota there are many hunters here who do wear the bright orange to easily be identified as humans (for lack of a better term). With that being said, yes, I honestly think there was gross negiligence to not ensure the son's safety. However, there are several hunters who take extra special care to ensure the safety of others in their hunting party. I do not think that we should go as far as to say 'let's keep these kids at home'. If we shelter kids to the point that they can't self suffice then we are doing them no favors.

      Re: animals are people too
Let me guess…a vegatarian? And if you look, I said we don't kill for trophies, we kill for food. At least my shot kills instantly instead of a sledge hammer in the head or a throat being cut! And I know these animals are not getting anything "extra" in their diet. My meat is true organic.

Well this is bound to happen..Untrained people with weapons.. Imagine that…What is going to happen now that the NRA managed to pass the Bill that allows people with concealed weapons permits, to bring their weapons to work even if the employer forbids it….

What an IGNORANT and HYPOCRITICAL statement Perez!!! It's laughable. Do you REALLY think that stricter screening would've prevented this???!!!! If so, please enlighten us? No, the REAL problem is very simple…. parenting. Because there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with a father taking and teaching his son how to hunt. It's as old as your's and mine and everyone elses bloodlines. The REAL issue is parenting (as is the issue with most of todays problems). Why do I say that? Please explain to me why the father(s) (of the 9 yr. old and 14 yr. old) would continue to hunt with a child separated in the woods from them?! Im not a hunter and have a phobia about guns but you cannot blame this on gun laws or anything else concerning that. It was the idiotic parent(s). If a child is suppose to be with you and disappears (no matter the age) stop what your doing, get off your ass and go find them!!!!!

They should make a new law that if your children go missing while hunting……you are not allowed to fire your weapon. Whatever happened to common sense?
