It's great to hear, I'm Cuban myself so it's great they're getting more technology.
Providing those backwater savages know how to use them. Do Cubans read and write, has that kind of rudimentary knowledge even caught up to them yet. Hopefully, now Florida will rid themselves of these foreigners and they will get the hell out of America. Miami is like a third water banana republic now.
It's hard to fight progress when it's biting you in the a*s. They need them to do business with the world to be on equal footing. Fidel's successor will nudge Cuba into this century. It was bound to happen.

Other countries have continued visiting Cuba, while you believe the spin they feed you. After Katrina, Cuba offered the U.S. Medical Doctors, but no one took them up on it. 9/11 responders got great care in Cuba when they couldn't get it in your country. You need to do a bit more reading. You know NOTHING about Cuba.
How could the first responders from 911 get medical attention in Cuba? Isn't it illegal for American citizens to go there.

Cuba needs serious economic reform to increase the average income of a household.

did you ever consider that this "step" can continue to widen the socio-economic gap faced in all parts of latin america. Cuba continues to incorporate these "steps" but can not contend with the capitalist economy right around the corner b/c of this embargo. it is just a clear example of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. why widen the gap? savages is not the term, oppression from people like us.

I have never understood how America could justify damaging Cuba, a small island just because it is run by despots who are no threat to mighty American might. The average Cuban only makes $17.00 per month. The computers are selling for over $700.00. How many Cubans do you think will be able to afford a computer??? Also, did you know that they are STILL restricting Internet access to the average Cuban??? ONly Goverment Officials and those in high places will have access to the internet. So BIG DEAL!!! It's a question of how to define progress in the first place. Cuban citizens deserve the same rights as people who live in first world countries who are free to go out and purchase computers. That being said, every computer that is plugged into a wall, mine included, contributes to the further depletion of the natural environment. Access to information itself can be both proactive and propagandistic. Unlimited access to a resource like the internet needs to be coupled with a solid basic education in critical thinking.
Send the Cubes back home and then you will have progress.
If the Chinese take over the world we will eventually all be communists, so Castro will have the last laugh.

Friends just got back from Cuba (there have been there 13 times in the last 20 years) said it had improved so much since their last visit. Their hotel even let their friend that is a citizen of Cuba get a day pass and spend the day with them. Last time he was arrested just because he was on the beach in front of their hotel talking to them.
The reason why they now can buy computers, is not because it changed the president, it is because the energy crisis ended.

Thank god not everybody who comments on this blog is ignorant. I like the way Raul is trying to make it appear that ordinary Cubans are starting to have more freedoms. Unfortunatley, only a very small percentage of Cubans will be able to afford a computer or a cell phone. The trade embargo is so last century. Sure…it was pretty bad that all of those people were killed in the revolution of the 50's, but what was worse is how the USA was trying to take over Cuba and take advantage of it's regular working people by moving the wealth into the hands of only a few. We must learn to respect all people, and to start thinking forward with compassion and fairness.
Perez: They are legally allowed to purchase them now, but they still can't afford them. With the average Cuban earning about $10 to $12 a month, it would take about 20 years of savings to buy a computer. What a JOKE!! And APPLE, Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates in the ENTIRE WORLD!! Maybe you should pick up a book and read it now and then, huh!!
