There was ANOTHER turkey hunting related accident this past weekend!
And, THANK GOD, there's no death to report this time.
A Nampa, Idaho, man named Brent Rose survived after having more than 100 shotgun pellets drilled into his face, neck and back during a turkey hunting trip on Sunday.
Ouch!!!!
Rose recounts that he was within reach of a turkey he had been chasing when he heard someone behind him.
"I turned around and saw the three boys," Rose said.
He tried to whistle to alert the three hunters to his presence, but said his lips were too dry.
"I waived my hand to let them know I was there," he said. "I saw them looking at me, and then boom. I was face down on the ground holding the back of my head and screaming for my life."
The coat Rose had on at the time reportedly saved his life.
Idaho law enforcement hopes hunters learn a lesson from Rose's horrifying experience.
A spokesman said, "Most hunting accidents are caused by not identifying your target. Mistaking a man for a turkey is definitely a case of misidentifying the target. This definitely could have been avoided — make darn sure you know what you're shooting at."
Note to self: stay far, far away from turkey hunting grounds.

That has to be a little stingy. So - How come folks aren't wearing the orange jackets to let other hunters know that they are NOT a turkey (deerr, etc)? Alot of these accidents seem pretty avoidable.

As a hunter this stuff sickens me. Infortunatelymost states only require you to score about 70% on the safety course test to pass and they don't require any measure of common sense. It's only slightly better than the requirements to become a parent.

First rule of turkey hunting, you don't stalk (chase) turkeys! This is just looking for someone to shoot you accidentally. Pennsylvania's hunter safety course is VERY clear about this. You don't wear or carry anything that has blue, red, or white on it either, since those are the colors of a turkey's head. Hunters are up very early (4AM), maybe several days in a row. They are tired, anxious, probably bleary eyes, and when they hear a turkey calling their pulse starts to race. It's a recipe for disaster and accidents do happen.
If a hunter gets killed or wounded instead of the innocent animals, I'm all for it. Kill each other hunters, the world will be rid of you, killers of innocent animals.

When turkey hunting, you are covered from head to toe in camo. You could possibly be in the line of fire from another hunter without them even knowing. That is how you get close enough for the shot, turkeys are either hunted with bow & arrow or shotguns and both are for close range.

We had to wear a bunch of bright orange stuff - hats, jackets, etc…so other hunters could easily ID us. Don't they do that anymore?
