Screw the Katie Couric "taking over" Larry King's job rumors!

Word is that Ryan Seacrest is in 'serious' negotiations to take over Larry King Live when the old fogie retires.
This doesn't surprise media insiders. Larry told The New York Times in April 2007 that Seacrest would be his first choice to take over the show when the time came.
“He’s the classic generalist,” said King. “The only thing I don’t know, and I’ve gotten to know him pretty well, is how versed he is in politics, world affairs. Does he read the paper? Is he interested in Iraq? Because if he is, he’s going to be very good.”
We're so getting Ryan a subscription to the Economist!!

Ryan would be great at that position. Katie is a right-wing republican, and cannot contain her SMUGNESS when interviewing anyone liberal - which warrants her useless as a talk commentator.
no no no! i like seacrest, there is no doubt that he is extremely good at his job–the dick clark of our generation, but he needs to stick to entertainment. unless, LKL plans on changing its format and focusing strickly on celeb interviews (i hope not!), then ryan is not the right person. you need someone who is a but older and seasoned and well versed in politics, history, religion, etc. who knows the right questions to ask and can put conversations in context and understands the bigger picture, etc.

Interpretation of King's quote: "We don't know where Ryan is on the liberal/conservative spectrum. If he's not a flaming lefty like me, he won't be hired." Say what you want about Ryan but he is smart. He's made a conscious effort to keep his politics to himself, which is very wise. I suspect strongly that he's pretty conservative judging by the decisions and associations he's made over the years. If that's the case, I would love to see Ryan replace King and all his anti-Bush, anti-American bullshit, sucking up to all the insane liberals like Michael Moore and Barbra Streisand.
