The Reviews Are In

kylie.jpg

Kylie Minogue kicked off her new world tour in Paris on Tuesday night and the critics are raving!

"Aussie pop royalty Kylie kicked off her X2008 tour with her most opulent concert ever. The brave star, who has firmly set her cancer battle behind her, proved she is the undisputed queen of the pop landscape with this intoxicating set. An impressive band, including a brass section for the first time ever, excelled, but it was the theatricality that impressed most. A Kylie show is no mere concert, it’s an epic theatrical extravaganza. And one that should not be missed."

We've been watching clips on YouTube.

The show is the hotness!

      39

kylie is an international superstar who's star has shone brightly for 21 years. she may not be huge in the us as only americans with finer taste get her. she is most respected not for her beauty or music but for her class and elegance. In over 2 decades she has managed to stay grounded, ego free and has never developed into a diva. she has respect for her fans and never rips them off with convert tickets (take note madonna), always signs autographs with a smile and does a lot of private charity work (away from the cameras). She makes people smile and always retains her dignity and people in europe, australia and most of the world love her for this. when she got cancer and when her relationships end people are sad because they all feel they know her and she has never given anybody a single reason to dislike her. The Queen and France have honored her because she is someone one should look up to. she makes the world better and has an open heart.

    40. LeB says – reply to this

      40

I was there and it was AWESOME !!! People saying that no one cares about her are probably bitter americans who have never put a foot outside their country. 15000 people yesterday in the arena can say that they care about Kylie. I'm not going to compare with Madonna coz it is not the same thing (Madonna rocks too !!).
Believe it or not, she is a GOOD SINGER (she has a smooth sexy voice). The set was amazing, so big, and the outfits… WOW. Perez, you would have LOVED the dancers (who were half naked most of the time, yum). The show lasted 3 hours (yeah, for real), 28 songs. Honestly, few artist can do that (and she had chimo 2 years ago !!). It was soooo great, she seemed very happy to have opened her tour in Paris, she really was fun, talkative and she gave a lot of energy to the crowd.
      It simply was WILD !
VIVE KYLIE, VIVE LA FRANCE, VIVE PEREZ !!!!

Oh and while we are at it….WHY NO NEWS OF HOW HILLARY JUST GOT HER ASS SLAMMED. Oh riiiight you don't do politics that count only manufactored. OBAMA '08 Stop the drama … vote OBAMA

A series of civil disobedience actions are planned throughout the city Wednesday in response to the acquittals of three New York City undercover detectives in the killing of an unarmed groom on his wedding day.
Simultaneous protests are planned for 3 p.m. in six key transit areas in the city – five in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn. Large crowds are expected for the acts of civil disobedience, which could see hundreds of people clogging each designated protest spot. The protests are expected to continue through the evening rush hour.

    47. Madonna DOes it BETTER!! says – reply to this

      47

Kylie is super cute.. and a nice singer. BUT she is not Madonna. And if you look closely at just about all her videos..it usually a rip off of something Madonna already did 10,15,even 20 years ago. Klyie is not global teh way Madonna is. SHe is a hit in some European countries. And conceert were not really theatrical until Madonna started doing it herself.

You would thiink that with her inability to captuyre AMerican audiences she would make moe opf an effort to stage some concerts here. Instead she totally disses the US. Not a great move Kylie. Just about everyehwere around the wordl you go to, it is a common standard: YOU ARE NOTHING UNTIL YOU CONQUER AMERICA!!

    48. anton says – reply to this

      48

Re: NYCDiva69 – Actually she CAN sing - she's not pretending to be Mariah or Christina as she came before them and does not need to compete. Kylie does not rip off madonna either - they are inspired by each other and Madonna + Kylie have always shown public admiration for each other. Madonna is a legend but she realizes that Kylie is the only other live female performer that can pull off a sell out world tour and teach her news tricks in the process. Kylie's recent effort to 'break' america may have seemed low key - but maybe she's just not that ambitious - she was probably only doing it just to thank her loyal US fans (which she has many). After all if the rest of the world literally ADORES you then I doubt she has any need or desire for even more affection and was just politely pleasing her record company.

Kylie Minogue's entourage is certainly able to put on good show, (yes, I have been to one), and it was very entertaining, but how much of that was Kylie herself? The show is full of gymics and special effects. Her voice is padded out by talented backing singers, and she is invariably accompanied by the troupe of male dancers. Her costumes are couture designed and she makes many changes. Without all the glitz, (extravaganza you called it, Perez) how would she rate? Could she carry off a concert where she just sings with minimal support from so many other talented artists? I don't think so because her own singing talent is not great enough. Her talent relies in surrounding herself with those who really are tops in their field, which results in a great show, but maybe not so much because of Kylie herself. That was how I felt after seeing her Showgirl concert.

    76. TruetoForm says – reply to this

      76

Not Convinced…check out Intimate and Live if you want to see Kylie hold a show together without the 'extravaganza.' Kylie is an inspiration for the sheer fact that she genuinely enjoys what she does, and is thankful for everything she has. Madonna, although I love her, appears so ungrateful…as do Mariah, Whitney, Amy Winewhore, Christina - I could go on! Kylie's charisma and ability to make you feel like you're a welcomed guest in her home are what make her concerts so amazing. Not even Madonna has the skill to make 15000 people feel this way.

Re: TruetoForm – You speak as if you know each of the singers you mention personally, including Ms Minogue herself. How can you assert that any of these women is ungrateful, or that Ms Minogue is? All we get is spin. The public image and private persona are two very different things. All we can respond to is the public persona. Ms Minogue has very carefully managed her public image over the years and has been successful in that she has lasted so long. However, I find her somewhat manufactured. She also seems somewhat self-obsessed, appearing at countless events, promoting herself (as in her recent unsuccessful foray into the US), putting her name on merchandise, releasing different versions of the same song, etc, etc. Obviously you are a die-hard Kylie fan, and that's great for you, and probably why you feel like you are receiving a personal welcome at her concerts. I had no such feeling of being welcomed into her "home" when attending her concert. The one I attended was in her home-town of Melbourne so if it were going to happen it would be there. The $40 she wanted just for a programme was off-putting right from the beginning. Needless to say I didn't buy one as I don't like being ripped off. The concert was enjoyable, but I wouldn't attend another one. Each to their own…

Sure people may not know Ms Minogue personally but they know a genuine, gracious star when they see her. I live one road from kylie in london and i do not know personally - however, I have watched year after year the cameras permanently camped put side of her apartment and day after day Kylie appears with a huge smile on her face, flawlessly turned out and totally approachable to ANY fan who may bump into her. You do not need to know her personally - its all in her eyes, she connects to strangers and people know she is the REAL DEAL. Sure she has had years of experience and has a (rather beautiful) public mask (and she needs one to survive the fish bowl she lives in) but deeper than this she is always grateful, respectful and honest. A fundamentally NICE GIRL.
In Chelsea (where she lives in London) the Restaurant owners love her, the Neighbours love her the corner shop loves her and even the British press love her.
No other superstar of her stature has managed to remain grounded, connected and approachable. This is her real achievement (not her record sales) and this is why people post such passionate love for the lady whether they like her music or not.

I totally agree with Levi…….I understand that such adoration for a star may seem strange to Americans who have not had the history with Kylie. But in Britain/Australia she is held with the same respect as say Princess Diana and people are very protective of her, like a little sister. She is a National treasure and people of all backgrounds wish her the best of health and happiness.

I loved the show yesterday in Belgium, but the diva kept us waiting for over an hour!!! The dancers need to practice more, they weren't in line.
She looked a bit exhausted, but she sang really good. We needed more disco though….

Waiting for an hour is not bad if you think that before Antwerp they were in Paris. After the show they took the stage down, put into truck and drive to Belgium. Then they rebuild the stage again + soundcheck. And they only have less than 24 hours to do that. I guess that at the end of the tour the crew looks more like robots. Pure perfection. Going to the Oslo show, can't wait. It's pure perfection.

Gee, let's see what Europe does the next time there's static in Kosovo or Bosnia (or Germany for that matter). Let me guess: Nothing!

Kylie was hot, but has lost it. Face work belying an insecurity previously unseen. Videos where she's not old - jut too old for da club. And a concert that's Ringling Brothers meets Pink Floyd laserium meets Zoolander runways. Good for French gay stoners. And lite-bright lights that bring to mind crafting Bozo the Clown. This America says, Kylie WAS the best, but she's lost it. She's in danger of recontextualizing her great past. The grace is almost gone.

Ignorant coward. The British Empire at the time was fighting WWII for two and a half years before you got involved. The war in Europe was nearly over. We outnumbered you many times over (as well as the dead). If you were that bothered about your closest ally (LOL), you would have been with us from the start.
Stick to the thread or f~ck off.

      Re: Lorien

I said the *next time* there is static let's see what Europe does. Of course, the answer is "nothing." You make my point by going back over 60 YEARS to claim "courage." (After England cheered when Chamberlain promised "peace in orur time" LOL). Since then: 1956. England is officially over after her and France are scolded away from the Suez canal. Ike, with a *phone call* made the prime minister *cry*.

Help England from the start of WWII? What a sense of entitlement! After only 20 years since WWI? Gosh Europe was messed up and needy. US $$$$ were rolling from the get go, BTW. Check out JFK's book WHY ENGLAND SLEPT. And take a hard look at Europe's failed "balance of power system" that led to such disasters. And using your logic, the next time there's trouble on the Western Hemisphere we'll call England for help LOL.

You say "stick to the thread", but I replied to a post — just like you did. Except I actually mentioned Kylie — the England of pop stars, a has been resting on former glories.

Kylie - Queen of the Nanny State

Please note: When one has a good argument, there's no need for name calling or profanity. Your use is an obvious sign of impotence.

      Re: Kylie Officially Over

Name calling or profanity? Check again. There was neither of these things. I see however that you're using "American History" which is always absent of any actual historical fact(s)… Oh, and by the way. The American $$$ (Marshall Plan) at the end of WWII, was mostly IOU's for American materials and food at highly inflated pay-back terms. Boy do you have an absense of understanding.
I won't go into anything else as you've obviously already been programmed by your education system and propoganda TV/Hollywood like most of your countrymen.
When you name call an entire continent, now that is what I'd call "namecalling". Don't be such a hypocrite.
