Yes, it really is that bad!
The reviews are in and critics are shredding the new Speed Racer film to pieces.
USA Today gave it a whopping 1 and 1/2 stars.
And, the Associated Press is saying, "In adapting the 1960s Japanese anime television series, writer-directors Larry and Andy Wachowski have created a noisy, overlong, mind-numbing extravaganza that seems tailor-made for nobody but themselves and their twisted sensibilities. At two hours and 15 minutes, it's way too long for little kids, the only ones for whom this explosion at a crayon factory would seem even vaguely entertaining. Adults seeking the nostalgia of their own childhood will just be disappointed, because Speed Racer the movie bears little resemblance to Speed Racer the TV cartoon."

I saw a sneak preview last night and it was awesome. The graphics, were amazing. yes, its a long movie but it didn't feel extended. Plus, who trusts critics? Most of them are pretentious assholes trying to prove themselves. I recommend people see it, you wont be disappointed.

It's actually really good. I enjoyed it as an art piece. It is really different from anything else I've seen. I love the way it is edited… the characters and props swiping the screen. It's really unique. You'll need to put on your fantasy cap. Isn't that what we want though? To be a part of a fantasy on the screen? I watched it and enjoyed it as I would a piece of art on exhibit.

I will probably see it regardless of what Perez has posted. I do love your website, however has there been 1 movie that resembles the television version. The Charlie's Angles movies, Starsky & Hutch, the Mod Squad, Dragnet and Shaft were nothing like the television shows. For you to say that this won't bring back the memories of the television series. Make sure that these othere are put in that same catagory.
That's too bad. Speed Racer was a pretty good cartoon, and its animation is classic in its simplicity. (I think 4 people did the voices for EVERYONE)

When I first heard about this, I was really hoping they actually stuck with the feeling of the Anime. I still will go and see this just for kicks, but I'm hoping I don't walk out of the theatre with my head hung low in disgust! I have a feeling that will happen though…..
I saw this Tuesday night as well and loved it. I didn't even want to see it- in fact I got dragged there, but it really is amazing. The graphics will stun you, but it's still a really fun movie and if you just let yourself enjoy it, you will! It's not supposed to be realistic- it's supposed to mirror the cartoon, which in itself was a little cheesy and fake. The movie follows suite, but in a good way! Don't listen to one review that Perez posted- I've seen plenty that have praised it for the same reasons I have. Plus, it doesn't really matter what critics think- they're usually in love with boring movies that I can't stand to sit through.
Take a chance and see it. I think you'll be surprised.
i'll probably go see it because my boyfriend wants to, plus i'd rather judge for myself then go off of what critics say, because they dont know what teenagers or kids want…. an added bonus is the twilight trailer. haha. i love it.

I seen it Wed may 7th and I loved it - don't judge it till you see it - it has a great story line and it never gets boring - believe me i took my 7 year old nephew and he sat thru all 2 hours of it and he loved it!!!!!
Saw it and loved it. Graphics will blow your mind and it never gets boring. The script is a little cheesy and the characters are a little underdeveloped, but it's a great family film. I loved it.

SpeedRacer might not be good, but Emile Hirsch is always good. I can't imagine him not doing good. I've seen him in Alpha Dog, Lords of Dogtown, and that movie about the Girl Next Door, and Into the Wild. I think Emile and Shia Le Whatsis are going to be around for a long time. They are both really talented young actors. As for the Batman sequel, it will blow everything else away. Indiana Jones and Batman are the shizzz!

I saw it last night at a screening - wasn't expecting much and LOVED IT!!!! I took my dad who is in town visiting and he came with me solely for the free meal on offer and he loved it as well. The cutest thing was all the kids in the screening who laughed all the way through and cheered. I think you should see it.
Perez is basing his opinion on USA Today's review???!!! That's like me choosing a presidential candidate based on US Weekly's opinion! There are plenty of GOOD reviews out there - Variety, Ain't it Cool, etc…I would never not see a movie based on one review! I'm taking my son tomorrow. It's gotta be better than anything on TV right now. Judge for yourself, people. Plus, Perez has really bad taste!
the film is actually really good!, i saw a pre screening and it totally lived up to my expectations and then some. there are several really kool actions scenes, the plot is like one out of the cartoon, everyone fits the chars especially sprittle! go see it! its so fun, cool and awesome….its total eye candy and just plain good old movie going fun!

I actually saw a pre-screening of the movie and I loved it! Yes loved it! I didn't grow up watching Speed Racer and I must admit I went to the movie because my boyfriend really wanted to see it and I had free passes - so why not! When I saw the previews for the movie I thought it looked super cheezy - but to my surprise I actually liked it! There's so much going on in the movie but you don't lose track of the storyline. Emile Hirsch is one of my favorite young actors and he did a great job portraying the role of Speed Racer. His little brother in the movie was awesome, John Goodman was great and you can't go wrong with Susan Surandon. Give the movie a break and take it for what it is! I would definitely go back to the theaters and PAY to see it again!
It was a kiddie movie sure but they should've edited out that annoying kid brother and his chimp. Actually, the chimp was okay. It's the kid who was a waste of film. He wasn't funny, he wasn't cute.
Emile was great. Too bad he can't rescue the movie.
And the effects were so dizzying, I threw up when I got home and fell asleep. My husband said, "If I hadn't been with you the whole time, I could've sworn you came from a drinking party–you were that dizzy!"
Oh, and if you have epilepsy, don't watch this movie. There were so many flashing lights, dazzling colors and popping explosions. Too many.
i want to see it - correction will see it, but am put off by 2 things - first the lsd trip of of melted crayolas on the screen is gonna prob give me a headache and drive my girl more insane than she already is…and second - what the hell happens to the mach 5??!!?? i see this mach 6 thing in the commercial and prevs, and i will shit a cinderblock if something happens to the iconic mach 5!

On Rotten Tomatoes.com Speed Racer has only gotten a 32% approval from the national critics…and last night it was as low as 29%. For a major motion picture that was once hoped to be a block buster, this is a disaster in the making!!! The film's tracking numbers are already so bad that even studio execs believe that it may have a soft opening this weekend, taking in between 30 to 35 million dollars while Iron Man may make 40 million plus, during the same period for the no. 1# position. After its first weekend at the box office, Speed Racer will fade into oblivion crushed by the Narnia sequel and Iron Man which will split each other's audiences 3 ways!!!
Unlike so many haters out there, I actually can't wait to go see this movie. It looks cute and anime style. I don't see why many people are hating it without even watching it. It's supposed to be for the kids anyway.
I think we will see great things from Emile Hirsch…guess this will not be it. After Into the Wild its clear this kid has talent!

I just wanted to say that I saw this movie in the preview screening and you HAVE TO HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THE TV SHOW to like this movie. It is not a bad movie, a lot of people just don't get it. Having been a big fan of the tv series I really liked this movie but it's not for everyone, however I think Iron Man reeked a lot worse than this film. I can't believe that piece of shit is on IMDB's top 250 at #99. The American Public is full of retards who don't know anything about film.

NO WAY!!!!! I saw it on monday in a sneak preview in San Diego and it was AMAZING. Not only was the story amusing and the characters funny, but the visuals werew AMAZING…don't believe the critics…I'll give it to them No Country for Old Men was good, as was There Will Be Blood, but this movie is sheer entertainment and is DEFINITELY worth seeing.
You know there is an animated Speed Racer Movie that remarkable was involved around the Race that killed greg's (speed's) brother go figure the wakowski's as theifs, thats as believable as Iraq not having nuclear weapons, ( ahh I got sarcasm on myself )
The critics are the same people that think I want to sit for 2 hours and watch Daniel Day Lewis play an instrument with his fucking feet? I will take my chances with this movie. Grew up on the cartoon, the trailers look good.

IT'S A GREAT MOVIE! i watched it already and it was so good. i think some people wouldn't like it because of the fact that it's so different and so unique that people wouldn't be able to appreciate the masterpiece. i think it's very artistic. well, art is debatable. i still highly recommend that you guys watch it.

I (27) saw it with my 10 year old brother yesterday. It may not be Oscar material, but we both enjoyed ourselves. It's not that bad.
I loved Speed growing up. Still do! But I'll wait til this comes out on DVD or maybe even TV. I love Ricci too….A LOT! But I hate going to see a movie that is shot almost entirely on blue screen and everything is computer rendered. It pisses me off. How lazy! I love cities recreated and real action. Of course the directors love it…it must save a bundle of cash to shoot racing scenes in a room. I hate it and refuse to see movies such as this. No matter how much I love Speed and Christina…Goodman rocks too. Who the hell is emile hershey? WTF.
