I feel kind of funny about this situation. My heart is broken for the family of John, however my heart goes out to Nick too. John knew that Nick was a careless driver. He should have never gotten in the car. It is easy to point fingers at Nick, he is a celebrity and he was the driver. But who is to say that John was completely innocent. We will never know. Kids will be kids. They will mess up. It does not make it right. Nick should be punished, however the punishment should fit the crime. This is really depressing. And I've only seen the speeches from the Hogan family. I have to say I feel sorry for Nick bc I'm sure there were plenty of times when the two guys were drag racing and Nick was in the passenger seat. The accident just happened to occur when Nick was driving. It could have easily been the other way around. The parents are the ones to blame for letting their kids have such a dangerous hobby.

You were young once, you must have done atleast 1 dangerous & stupid thing that could have hurt you and/or a friend. He loved this kid, from all accounts they were best friends. Please don't be soo mean here. He's no R. Kelly or the Basement grandfather/dad/rapist/childmolester from Austria. Please look ata the whole picture and be a decent guy. My heart aches for the victim - for all involved. The victims own father wasn't even as there for him as Nicks family but now he wants to cash in. I have no doubt that Hulk & hsi wife would be willing to pay for Johns treatment, there is no need for Nick to be in jail. He's no threat at this point.
I think Nick should be punished… but to be a convicted felon is a little harsh. I was involved in a high speed car accident where I was the passenger. All I hear is how lucky I am I survived. I was seriously injured and spent weeks in the hospital, nearly dead and had nearly a year of rehabilitation before I was myself again. While, I had the chance to press charges and sue his family for lots of money… I declined. Knowing that we were only 16 years old, young, and ultimately reckless… I did not feel he should be held accountable for it his entire life! I knew what was going on when I entered that car. I knew that he liked to drive at high speed and that was the ultimate plan… as I am sure Nick's friend did! Although Nicks friend paid the ultimate price, he should have never got in the car in the first place. He had to know how Nick was and how Nick liked to drive. I feel so sorry for his family, because I know how hard it was for my family not knowing whether I would live or die and I am sure it is a lot worse for them. But you can tell he is upset, so I wouldnt say he shows no remorse. It had to be hard for a young man to go through as well and he will live with it the rest of his life.

Well he can do the jail time. But can he do 3 years without driving and 5 years with NO drinking (would also mean no drugs). Probation is what can really trip people up.
Re: lame – I completely agree. It is an unfortunate accident, but each person needs to take responsibility for their actions. The injured guy didn't wear his seat belt and rode with a knowingly negligent driver. I feel sorry for both parties, but don't believe Nick deserves jail time. Nick will be regretting this decision for the rest of his life.
