It's official!
Speed Racer has bombed!
The film took in an extremely disappointing $6.6 million on Friday.
It is expected to take in an embarrassing $23-24 million for the weekend.
Earlier this week, Warner Bros. was expected its film to make in the 30s. Last week, the number was in the 40s. Unfortunately, it's gonna debut in the low 20s.
Iron Man, on the other hand, opened to about $100 million last weekend and it's expected to remain #1 this weekend.
Good reviews probably helped that film and the shiteous ones probably hurt Speed Racer.
Warner Bros. spent close to $200 mill to make Speed Racer. They better make a ton of cash internationally, or else some heads will roll!

It was sooo long and boring.. And in a usually busy theater in Downtown Seattle on a Friday night there were about 20 people.
I saw the movie and honestly it's not as horrible as everyone is making it out too be. It's extremely flawed and really has little to no character development or fleshing out of plot, but it does have some decent things going for it. For one, the effects are pretty outstanding. Although I wasn't thrilled with the whole over the top cartoony a la Flintstones movie vibe going for it. (ironic with Goodman in the film isn't it?) If it was played more real like Iron Man it could have had something spectacular going for it. They really did try to stick to the fast camera work and editing of the series even with some cool wipe effects and I liked the cut out people wipes (if you see it you'll know what I mean) It's not the best movie…but it sure isn't the worst. Hell it was better then Spiderman 3. Now that was some pure Hollywood crap. At least the directors here tried to do something a bit different visually. They were just lacking in over all script structure, decent dialogue, and a bit of over zealous direction

however, i just saw speed racer, expecting it to suck (hard), and was actually entertained. yeah, it IS a completely ridiculous movie, but i thought it worked. i was nuts about the cartoon when i was a kid, and i thought the movie related - it was like this big nostalgia-fest.

I saw it on Friday, not because I wanted to but just because my friends were going. I had low expectations, and was surprised to find myself pretty entertained by it. It's not a going to win an oscar, but it was entertaining and fun to watch.

My son and I saw this yesterday on an IMAX screen. Not ever seeing the original cartoon, and hearing Perez's negativity on it left me with low expectations. However, I must say I was blown away. It was pure entertainment! My son LOVED it too. It kept both of our attention throughout, and the 2 1/4 hours went by quickly. We came out of the theatre chanting "Go Speedracer Go!".

Mom and Son. I'm glad you had a wonderful time, in the end, I guess that is all that really matters, but get the original anime series…and you will see a very special difference. The Japanese series was very sophisticated and had a deep emotional core to it with great character development and an ongoing story arc. The film however, is like what junk food is, compared to home cooking. I hope you get to share the 1967 Japanese series with your son because there is a marked difference. I think it will really touch you emotionally by the last episode–you can't help but to cry…and feel good about it. BTW…you are very lucky to have a child, and he is lucky to have you…such a great Mom!!!

Then again how would they know? NO Hollywood producer, actress or actor ever steps foot in an actual movie theater. Why should they? They get FREE DVDs of all Hollywood Movies mailed to them by the Academy Awards, since they can't be bothered viewing all these films in theaters with the lowly public.
My sister, who is an adult, saw it and said it was fun. Not as good as Iron Man, which she's already seen three times, but she said it was a really fun movie. So, don't always go by what reviewers say.

Shrooms + Speed Racer = Good Times Had By All. I sat front row and got my mind blown into the atmosphere. With all the random giant heads popping up and just ridiculousness of things Speed Racer was a riot. Also there was clearly two movies going on at once, one involved speed racer, the stock market, and company buy outs, with the other focused on a husky boy and his pet monkey that just wanted to eat candy and watch t.v.. Was inspector detector an old KGB agent or something?
I got a warning email from moms that it isnt good for kids. Of course my 7 year old is begging to see it but now I know not to take him because of violence and language not just cuz the film is over 2 hours of suckiness.

and beyond that the movie is a great fun summer flick. yeah theres no real depth but its a kids movie, we were entertained the entire film and left with huge smiles on our faces. going to see it in imax tomorrow.
I went to go see it and I was a fan of the cartoons…I thought it was pretty dead on. I enjoyed it, I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone but I thought it was cooler and way better than you made it out to be. people keep saying that the script could have been better, but if you were a fan of the cartoons you wouldn't be complaining.

I went with my son to this movie, and I actually found it to be a really good movie. My son is young, 6, and he sat glue to the movie the whole time, which is something he rarely does. I think you shouldn't be too hasty to hate, unless you've seen it in its entirety.

Speed Racer is actually a fun time at the movies. I saw the first matinée Friday at my local 30-screen megaplex and liked it alot. I went in with lowered expectations due to the hating on this movie by Perez and most critics–but it's not as bad as they say. I say–thumbs UP!

Saw the movie thurs in a preview, was so awesome! Great action. Looks like a combination of Tokyo and the French film Amelie ( or however you spell it). The colors and sets were eye candy. Okay, i saw the movie last night. And seriously, its not that bad. The story is alittle slow in the beginning, but it picks up fast and its actually good. AND THE RACE SCENES ARE THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING I HAVE SEEN IN CINEMAS! Its not as good as "Iron Man", but it is not a bad movie. Grab a bunch of your friends (if you got them) and check it out!

I went to see it last night and it was a fun film with really amazing special effects and a very pop art feel to it that helped to lend to the surreal atmosphere. I loved it. The thing that maybe you and reviewers haven't gotten is that it is supposed to be fun homage to the cartoon and are too narrow minded to enjoy a film that doesn't take itself seriously. Frankly, with your fashion sense being as colorful as it is at times (yea, actually, your fashion sense is beyong criminal at times) I'd think you'd enjoy such high saturation colors and the kitschy aspect of the film. I went and saw this movie last night and extremely enjoyed it. let me say this first and foremost, i am your typical nerd pretty much minus the glasses and acne and flabby physique. I think this movie was made more for nerds. The whole movie plays out like a comic book, but if you couldnt figure that out, you would think the movie is a mess that just jumps around. This is clearly not a movie for everyone, and i dont think that critics understood that. So F*** critics, this movie wasnt as bad as they put it out to be, you just need to know how it works!
