The Anti Speed Racer

prince-caspian.jpg

Speed Racer bombed badly this past weekend, and the buzz ain't good for the new Indiana Jones film.

But, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is expected to open in a BIG way this coming weekend.

Tracking reports point to a $60 million opening for Prince Caspian, a follow up to the 2005 hit, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Prince Caspian is expected to do well because of its mass appeal. The movie is a Red State-friendly "Christian" film. The studio's suits organized outreach via churches and distribution partner Disney knows how to deliver the family demo to pics.

If the film does as well as expected, we will definitely see up to 5 more Narnia films headed our way!!

For those of you who don't know, the Narnia films are adaptations of the books in a C.S. Lewis series. Seven books total were written by Lewis.

We def wanna see it, preferably on Imax!

First of all Speed Racer didnt bomb. A bomb would be 2 million. Speed Racer wasnt hyped as much as Iron Man leading into the movie. It was a great movie (maybe you should go see it for yourself).

I believe Indiana Jones will not do very well, Shea Laquif was a poor casting decision.

I hope Narnia is better than the first one, it lacked a soul.

They completely skipped over a couple of books in the series. The Magician's Nephew is #1, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is #2, The Horse and His Boy is #3, and Prince Caspian is #4. Are they just coming out with The Silver Chair next and then be done with it all? However Prince Caspian is a well written novel and I am sure the movie will live up to the caliber of the novel.

JJ- They aren't skipping over books, they're coming out with the books in the order in which they were published instead of chronological order. They're doing this because the actors who play the pevensies would be to old for the movies by the time they made prince caspian and the dawn treader.

we will see maybe 1 maybe 2 more movies considering that the first two movies cover four books already, so that leaves only 3 books untold…

      21

well, technically, all of the narnia films are "bible flicks," aren't there? lewis wrote seven narnia books to represent the seven deadly sins. "the lion, the witch and the wardrobe" represented gluttony because he always wanted to have a turkish delight (which are disgusting, by the way). i haven't read the other narnia books, i wonder what this one will be!

i love those books! i'm def seeing the movie this weekend.
but i'm not so sure they could stretch five whole more movies based on the first one out of the books?? it wouldn't be relavant enough to make sense for people who haven't read them.

    24. Kloche says – reply to this

      24

Doesn't this movie have magic, a witch and mythical creatures. So how is it
Christian freindly. Aren't those churchies up against this type of thing? Narnia has the similar themes as Harry Potter and many of those Evangelical churchs support the burning of the Harry Potter books.

I am not really into these movies but I bet kids will enjoy it. I saw the earlier post about bad buzz around Indiana Jones but you didn't give any of the buzz. I was looking foward to it because I love the original 3 (but I am looking foward to Sex and the City more!). I agree Shia LeBeouf was a bad casting choice… he is I guess the best word would be grating.

    32. mEEE says – reply to this

      32

The Pevensie kids don't appear in all of the original books (so my son tells me), therefore, they are apparently making the films that include the kids to make the series flow better.

      42

JJ, you are wrong, actually. that is not the correct order of the books. the publishers made them that way because they put them chronologically according to the story. BUT C.S. Lewis wrote the books in the order the movies are coming out, you can even look inside the book and see that they were copyrighted in the order of the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe, prince caspian, the voyage of the dawn treader, the silver chair, the horse and his boy, the magicians nephew, and the last battle. C.S. Lewis wasn't able to officially change the order before he died. Most of the boxed sets are wrongly numbered.

That Mom and Son reminded me of what movies are all about. She and her Son seemed to need that bonding period. There was no mention of the Father, and the obvious thought that this was a single Mother keeps entering my mind, she posted just one day before Mother's Day. I think it was lovely that she had this moment to bond with her child…and I recognized that the Wachowskie helped to create the circumstance where that could happen…and suddenly, I found no joy in bashing them anymore. Rather, I thank those two for giving that Mom and her Son such a moment.

      Author: Essex_Rider from England

I was lucky enough to get a preview of this as I help a charity out that premiers films in hospices.

Speilburg has really pulled this off brilliantly. It's as good as, if not better, than the best Indy films of all, 'Raiders of the Lost Arc'.

I won't give too much away but I have to say that the motorcycle stunts were some of the best I've ever seen, and it was good to see that Harrison Ford has magically retained not only his look, but the twinkle in his eye as well.
For me, this has it all, great story, brilliant action scenes, fabulous actors and best of all, no reliance on computer aided graphics, just a good old fashioned storyteller doing what he does best, telling a story.

Loved Speed Racer as a child, and no interest to see the movie. Besides, no human can get their eyes as big as is necessary. lol.

I've been scoffing at the latest Indiana movie, but saw a good trailer at Iron Man, and I'll give it a chance.

Iron Man was awesome and I hated the comic. Robert Downey Junior is damn good as usual, and I don't know if they could have pulled it off without him.

I'll see Caspian with trepedition - they've clearly changed some major plot points. However, the Chronicals are hardly bible flics. as Kloche was the only one to point out (sad), witches, goblins, and talking animals are antithema to the christian fundies that run the US, and its merely strategic marketing that has kept the directors from suffering similar threats from "good christians." The Chronicles are more similar to the Harry Potter AND Dark Materials (Golden Compass) books than they are to the Bible.

Incidentally, Lewis was an atheist that went Christian, and Pullman (Golden Compass) was a Christian that went atheist. Both the Chronicals and the Dark Materials have fantastic religious metaphor and have much to teach us. But its best to get ones head out of ones ass prior to attempting to learn something. Dumbass fundies.

      68

i doubt they will make 5 more movies, because not all the stories in the NARNIA series feature the pevensie children, in fact only one more story features edmund and lucy, but not peter and susan. if they decided to make all the 7 books in the series into movies, you would lose the main characters and the mass appeal. the next 4 books don't really relate to one another very well, in fact the only thing they really have in common is narnia and aslan. and to whomever said they skipped books in the series, they did not. they are doing the movies in the order that the books were published. c.s. lewis himself stated that he never planned the books out ahead of time. when he wrote the lion the witch and the wardrobe he had no idea he'd write caspian. and when he wrote caspian he didn't know he would write the voyage of the dawn trader and etc. the decision to reprint the books in internal chronological order was made by the publisher decades after the fact.
