The movie is getting mixed reviews. Not good!
The well-respected Times only gave the pic 2 out of 5 stars!
Here are some highlights of what their critic has to say:
- There may be a problem with a film when a narrator constantly tells you the meaning of what you have just seen, gift-wrapping each scene with a moral.
- There may be a problem with stretching Sex and the City into a two hour and twenty minute film - it can feel like a never ending dinner party: however pleasant the courses, after a while you can hardly eat another one.
It should be noted, however, that the reviewer was a guy.

i'm a huge Sex and the city fan, and have always supported SJP, however, now im starting to believe that she is extremely self centred. Several months ago, i sent a heart felt letter to her asking her to make my 16th birthday wish come true … I have horribly crooked teeth, and there is nothing in the world i want more than to have them fixed… unfortunately my parent's can't afford to fix them for me. I sent ehr pictures and everything. but nothing. i know 5,000 is a lot of money, but to her, it seems that, that would just be a designer bag. please let me know what you think… was it too much to ask for? be honest!

Re: charity case – Your' crazy. First of all. Second to all you SITC fans. Reality is, just because a show was a hit on TV doesn't make it a hit on the big screen. It doesn't have a hardcore cult following, number one and two it doesn't appeal to everyone.
But, but, But Sex and the City always has the narrator! We love Carrie talking. If I were reviewing it having never seen the show . . . . I might not like it either!

2 hours and 20 minutes. That's a long film. I'd be getting fidgety by the end. The film will be a success regardless of what the critics have to say because of the loyal following of the fans of the TV series, and all the publicity hype. Still not sure if I'll see it. It's like when you read a book, love it, and then see the film, and it just doesn't measure up. I loved the TV series. Maybe it's best to leave it at that. As for gift-wrapping scenes with morals, that is an American tendency with both their films and TV offerings, and we are reading British critics here. A film should leave it up to the audience to make their moral judgements, and they will if the film is well-crafted. But they will be their own judgements, and not necessarily those of the film-maker.

Same paper (different reviewer gave IRON MAN 2 stars as well. The reviewer wrote that Robert Downey Jr. didn't "deliver the emotional truth of the character"… WTF does that mean?? So if SEX is as good as IRON MAN, according to the reviewers, it should be a fun night at the theater.

re charity case: Celebrities rarely give large amounts of money to fans. They will give to a charity like Perez pushes our way. You are not the only one poor out there. Sarah would be out of money if she gave money to everyone of her fans that were needy. I know you are 16, so you probably don't realize that many people out there have high credit card balances, live pay check to pay check and are close, if not at the point, of losing their house. If you really need braces, why don't you see it you can work at a dentist office to 'pay' in work time for the braces. One of my friends did that so her daughter could get braces. If not, wait until you can work fulltime and see if you can work out a payment plan.

The Brits don't value SATC in the same light New York does– or for that matter, our generation of SATC viewers. Its simple, the reviewer wasn't in the target market for the film, for the show, for the lifestyle those 4 fabulous characters represent. There was no appreciation of neither the wit, style, background, and most importantly city that SATC acknowledges. After all, New York trumps London. It's the center of the universe. So nice, you say it twice. If you can't appreciate New York, you can't appreciate Sex and the City. As Kim Catrell says, "New York is really the fifth character." As for the narration of morals…"Later that day I got to thinking…[Is this critic serious?]" Its the premise of the whole show– figuring out the place of women in their mid 40's. Women still working, some single some married. Throwing out theories, morals, themes. Its what we do– try to wrap and find closure for an issue with some magnificently sexy line. A la Big's character.
American critics have given rave reviews. Oprah says we wont be disappointed and Oprah is Jesus. Thus, leave it the Brits to underappreciate the genuine magnificence that is SATC. With that, I say suck it you wankers.
