Your Career Is In Trouble When…

Filed under: Wilmer Valderrama > Z List

wenn1844318.jpg

We really haven't heard much from Wilmer Valderrama these days.

And that's probably because he isn't doing much!

Well, he is doing "something" later this month.

Valderrama will be hosting an event to celebrate (Ricky Ricardo) Desi Arnaz's contributions to the world of entertainment.

The event, "A Tribute to Desi Arnaz: An Evening With Wilmer Valderrama" will take place on Saturday, May 24th in Jamestown, NY.

Valderrama will be headlining the Lucy-Desi Days 2008 which takes place from May 23-25.

Wonder how much he's getting paid???? $300? $500???

According to the press release, Wilmer "will share how Desi personally inspired his career and salute the man that paved the way for other Hispanic actors in America. With a collection of rarely seen film clips of Desi's career, this will be a night not to miss! The audience will also enjoy a question and answer session."

Wonder what type of questions Wilmer will get. If any.

And for the lucky fans out there, after the event, guests will have the opportunity to meet Wilmer at an after-party. The food will be catered by a Mexican taco place.

What, they couldn't even get Cuban food in honor of Arnaz?

Shame!

    17

Easy to be an armchair critic re: the food. If you want to celebrate Desi Arnaz's contribution, why don't you offer to help them, and then assist them in locating a decent Cuban caterer in New York? Do it.

    49

i live a half hour away, and lucy-desi days are a big deal. and no there is no cuban food nearby, at all. so having probably la herradura cater it (i'm guessing) is a good deal for jamestown. i must admit, i'm surprised he'll be hosting the event. maybe he'll swing by my town and i can tell him to shave…

  50. HipMamaB says – reply to this

To show you did some research and/or to show you know something worth writing, try adding to this story that the reason this is being held in Jamestown, NY, is because that's the birthplace of Little Ricky's mother, Lucille Ball.

Re: 3rd planet – I read about Desi inventing it in a bio of Lucy. "An early innovator in the history of sitcoms is Desi Arnaz who is credited with the first successful use of the multiple-camera setup, where three cameras shoot the action on stage simultaneously and the best shots from each of the cameras are later edited together. " AND "Under the leadership of Arnaz, who popularized the use of the three-camera system which had recently been improved by Al Simon, a producer for Ralph Edward's Truth or Consequences (1950), Desilu not only produced a number of its own series, but served as a studio for numerous other independents, including Danny Thomas and Quinn Martin. 80

    Hey,

Doesn't anyone remember when he was on Cribs?

So, this probably makes me lame, but the one thing I do remember about that whole episode is how Arnaz is the reason he wanted to act…..

NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT MONEY, LOSERS!

  81. Jen says – reply to this

    81

Exactly… He's the brains and voice behind Handy Manny- Handy Manny is even a walk around character at Disney Hollywood Studios (MGM) and is in the new stage show there… It's immensely popular. Walk into any Target and you'll see Handy Manny merchandise.

  82. KLMMLK says – reply to this

    82

Hey, he does the voice of "Manny" on "Handy Manny". It's on Disney Playhouse, my daughter loves that show!!! Hey, atleast it's something.

  83. casey says – reply to this

    83

Just because he's not a FAMEWHORE & isn't out there promoting every such thing & taking part in every show ever made… doesn't mean he's a useless d-lister. Maybe there are still people in Hollywood who are perfectly happy being loaded from a few projects & don't have to keep promoting themselves until the day they die.

  84. lje says – reply to this

    84

    He's Handy Manny's voice…

  85. aurora says – reply to this

    85

Ok, I read some of the comments and you Perez readers changed my mind. My kids are grown so I didn't know about Handy Manny, but cartoon voices are a great way to make a living so I hereby change my previous comment.

Mr. Arnaz was so hot, though. "Lucy & Ricky" were probably the first "interracial" couple on TV. In every way, Desi was awesome.

Still though - they can't get a New York City Cuban restaurant to cater this?

  86. get over yourself says – reply to this

    86

Perez stop trying to push this Agyness "model" into everyone. She actually looks tacky most of the time and just because you like her doesn't mean she's that hot. I've been seriously questioning your taste lately with things like these and all those cheesy bands you promote here. I just think it's stupid and in fact, your act it's starting to get really tired. You better come up with something fresh soon. How about going into celebrity rehab yourself and tap into those chilhood issues that make you treat most people like shit. Poor you- you must have been so mentally abused by everyone that you feel like this is your time to get back at everyone. IT WON'T LAST YOU POOR SOUL.

  87. Emma says – reply to this

    87

I wouldn't say he isn't doing anything. My kids love him as the voice of Handy Manny.

Never undervalue an actor's efforts when voicing a cartoon character that children love

  88. D says – reply to this

I am from Jamestown. Lucy Desi days are big, but most locals stay awake from down town then since it is crazy.

I love Taco Hut though, they have awesome food, lol

  89. Ashley says – reply to this

    89

You wanna know what he does now?! He is the voice of "Handy Manny"!! It's a show on Disney, it's on every morning. Basically he's a Mexican handy man! It's freakin' hilarious! My kids love it!

  90. D says – reply to this

    90

Also Jamestown is on the far side on NYC, 500 miles from NYC. It is south of Buffalo near the PA border. Sorry not a huge Cuban population here.

The only place in Buffalo I could think of that had Cuban/Latin/Carribean food is Sole in Williamsville

I live in Jamestown and let me tell you the Lucy - Dezi days are not very exciting and dont attract many people… Only weird goofey ladies that try to dress up like lucy…. I think Perez is talking about the Taco Hut or the Mexican Restaurant just outside of the city where 7 illegals were deported when they were found sleeping on the floor of the restaurant at night..

He was living with his parents in Van Nuys at the time. Someone suggested I sell his home phone and email on ebay to get him back, but no one would have bought it anyway…
