I find it offensive that gays call their unions a "marriage". Marriage is a sacred union between a MAN AND A WOMAN- not a man and a man or a woman and a woman. Call it a partnership or whatever you want, but dont call it a marriage. It never was and it never will be. Though I am happy about the added spousal benefits that go along with it. Everybody deserves that.

Everyone in this country (yes…I mean YOU too) comes from a background in which their ancestors were persecuted for one reason or another. Religion, sex, race, skin color, sexual orientation whatever. EVERYONE. That's why this country was formed. For people to escape persecution (only most of the founding fathers were either racist, sexist, closet homosexual…go figure). Fact of the matter is…we're all american. We're all human. In this scientific day and age, it is well proven that despite all our outward differences; we are all members of the human species. So drop the "I'm better than you because I don't understand you" routine. Or go take sociology 101 and psychology 101. Maybe then you'll understand why you're comments sound so juvenile and idiotic.

Banning gay marriage isn't going to stop gay people from loving each other. By not giving them this right, you're saying that they're less than human. I love Ellen and I think that she and Portia deserve to be happy, and if they want to get married, then let them marry! By your theory, if we're going down the traditional path (and therefore defintion) of marriage that has existed since recorded history-that it is only between a man and a woman- then marriage shouldn't be interracial and people should stick to their own race…WHICH IS RIDICULOUS. You can't tell a white person not to marry a black person, so why is the US allowed to tell women that they can't marry women? If the church doesn't want to marry them, then fine, but the state should not have the right to say the same thing. Church and state separated in a time when they burned people for witchcraft-that should tell you something!
