According to the National Enquirer, Will Smith is starting his own school because there's nothing out there good enough for his kids.
Will and his husband, Jada, have until now been home schooling their tots, Willow and Jaden.
Smith reportedly spent about $1 million to lease a campus near his California home.
The campus has been renamed the New Village Academy of Calabasas.
The academy will be run privately for kindergarten kids up through sixth grade.
The school's website says it's accepting applications now!
Wonder if we'll see Suri there in a few years????

I'm pretty sure the school will be for scientologists' children. They are accepting applications, sure, but it's really just a screening to see who your parents are. I'm willing to bet that no Catholics, Hindus, Christians, Baptists, Jews, etc will get in.

What an interesting choice and use of their funds and celebrity. Some people have clothing lines, others have perfumes and housewares, they have a school that would teach children-this could potentially be a long lasting legacy if done right. I need to know more about it, but the Smith's are good people.

Wow, that school is really expensive. They have to make sure that their kids are never exposed to "normal" kids. What they have listed as making them unique is actually pretty cool except the following:
"We emphasize that children look up the words they don’t know in the dictionary as opposed to looking for context clues right away. They then learn exactly what words mean as opposed to “sort of” what words mean."
This is totallly wrong…kids have to learn to understand context. When they are older and reading complex writing, they will not have the time to look up every word in the dictionary. Plus, by looking the word up in the dictionary, how do you know which definition is appropriate if you don't look at the context? That's the one thing I would challenge if I was rich enough and priveleged enough to send my kids to this school. If only I could act, then I could be rich like them, but instead I am a teacher (Perez is one of my guilty pleasures)!!!
will smith is super talented, i'm a big fan of his. however, (IF this report is true) why not spend that money to help inner city schools? aren't underprivileged kids the kids who need the most attention educationally?

This IS a scientology school. Look at the curriculum, it is Hubbard/scientology based. BTW scientologists are encouraged to lie to protect their interests (another Hubbard policy).

Their own website quotes that their curriculum is based on L. Ron Hubbard's "Study Tech" (LRH was the creator of the con-pyramid scheme known as Scientology). This will only put money in the pockets of the current leader of the Cult, David Miscavige, as well as indoctrinate many innocent children into the cult, leading them down a path of mental anguish, forced labor, extortion, and possible suicide.

Calabasas is a rich community. Think–estates with horses, etc. Lots of rich folk like Will live in Calabasas.
So a school with diversity? Doubt it, unless they intend to bus in poor kids, which will take about 1.5 hours minimum one way. I guess kids from Malibu might make the drive, it's not TOO far away.
The main point is: IT'S A SCHOOL FOR RICH KIDS. Look at the tuition. It's a school for elitist parents and their tots. Probably famous parents and they're snot tots.

On a side note to the people who think home schooling is better than regular school… You are truely mistaken. It depends on the school itself and the individual student, not whether it is private, public, or other.

The site of this school is Indian Hills High School which is a continuation school for high school drop outs who are kicked out of the normal district schools, usually drug addicts.

Being quite knowledgeable about Scientology and its front organisations I have searched for terminology and keywords on their site.
Will Smith and Jada are both Scientologists. The schools mission statement etc are closely gleaned from the Way to Happiness which is a "bridge" course to becoming a full blown Scientologist.

I personally think it's refreshing to see Hollywood parents so involved with their kids. The fact that they care so much about their kids' education really shows that they want the best for them and for them to have boundless opportunities in the future.
